Knicks Morning News (Friday, Oct 12 2012)

  • [New York Post] Ewing searching for coaching spot (Fri, 12 Oct 2012 04:01:28 -0500)
The juxtaposition was curious. Of course Patrick Ewing would be the centerpiece of a promotion Madison Square Garden conducted yesterday to unveil an exhibit called “Defining Momentsâ? as part of “Phase IIâ? of the arena’s renovation.
Ewing, after all, was a part of some of the greatest â?? and most…

  • [New York Post] Knicks win preseason opener; Stoudemire sits with bruised knee (Fri, 12 Oct 2012 03:54:20 -0500)
WASHINGTON â?? Carmelo Anthony showed he is still superb without Amar’e Stoudemire, and Steve Novak made a case that if the Knicks star power forward isn’t producing, he can do a heckuva job in the starting job.
With Stoudemire missing the preseason opener with a bruised left knee in…

  • [New York Post] Stoudemire hopes to play vs. Celtecs (Fri, 12 Oct 2012 02:42:34 -0500)
WASHINGTON â?? Kurt Thomas is 40 going on 30. Amar’e Stoudemire is almost 30, going on 40.
In the Knicks’ 108-101 victory over the Wizards in Thursday night’s preseason opener, Stoudemire was held out because of a bruised left knee after bumping knees with Chris Copeland in Wednesday’s…

  • [New York Daily News] Amar’e's knee sidelines him for Knicks’ preseason opener victory (Fri, 12 Oct 2012 03:49:22 GMT)
Before opening their preseason Thursday night with a solid 108-101 win over the hapless Washington Wizards, the Knicks tried to get their story straight on Amar’e Stoudemire. That meant changing their story and admitting that Stoudemire had suffered what they are now calling a minor knee jury, which still prevented him from taking the court for the first of six exhibition games.

I know that ruruland said that last night will be par for the course and I know it’s an exaggeration given that it was a preseason game against one of the league’s worst teams, but if this team consistently shoots the way they did last night, this would be a 70+ win team. There’s just no way that’s going to happen. If Novak, Smith, and Anthony pull a cumulative .70+ TS% or whatever, I will eat crow for all eternity. Really.

      (But that will never happen.)

Really? You sure? I fully expect Novak to shoot about 12 3s per 36 at a 100% clip.

    3. H20

His shot looks quicker though, also didnt look afraid to shoot and looked better coming off of screens. Him and Kidd/ Jr should be a great combination with the transition threes.

Washington is not only bad, they had a number rotation players out so obvioulsy this was not much of a test That said, we had Camby, Amare, Shump, and White out, so our depth was very evident.

I expect things to heat up big time vs. Boston tomorrow. I was at a preseason game two years ago at MSG and Boston extended its starters like it was the NBA finals, with Pierce hitting a patented 18-foot fadaway buzzer beater to beat us. I’ll be interested in how our guards fare vs. Rondo and Terry.

Camby and Amar’e are the problem though. Amar’e especially. We only played a traditional center for 37 minutes of last game. SIms was the only real power forward to get out there (9 minutes). Instead, we had 2-3 shooters on the floor most of the time, and sometimes up to five with lineups like Kidd, Prigioni, Anthony, Novak, Copeland. With Amar’e and Camby demanding a combined 40 mins or so and Chandler playing 30+ mins instead of 22, that’s not going to happen in the regular season.

    6. ruruland

but there will be more defense and rebounding on the floor. In case you’ve forgotten, a healthy Amare with good point guard play is one of the best offensive players in the game.

The Knicks have innumerable ways to win. One of those is playing small ball with what will likely be the best 3pt shooting in the NBA.

But a Felton, Kidd, Smith, Amare, Camby lineup is pretty damn good.

So is a Felton, Prigioni, Melo, Amare, Chandler lineup.

As is a Kidd, Smith, Novak, Amare, Camby or a Felton, Brewer, Shumpert, Melo Amare.

I kind of like a Prigioni, Shumpert, Novak, Amare, Chandler.

      That’s just a few, it’s a beautiful thing.

There have not been many legit 12 deep teams in history. And when consider that the Knicks roster is full of guys who can play 2-3 positions, all of whom accept shortened minutes, and the majority of whom have shown they’re more effective in bursts then they are extended minutes……

      It’s almost unprecedented USEFULL depth.

And Woodson will find the 5-10 best statistical permutations, but I think it’s going to be very difficult to play a bad lineup when this team is healthy.

We can talk about how all that works against the Heat, Boston,OKC or Lal another time.

    7. Z-man

Watching the Det-Tor game on NBA TV. Fields is missing everything, but I have to say his form looks better…more fluid, more arc.

    8. massive

The team looked good last night against a terrible team. I’m most looking forward to seeing how Amar’e and Melo play when they’re on the court together. The offense looked good with KT out there, but that’s probably because nobody is looking to get him involved on offense. I hope Amar’e can be an asset to the offense instead of a liability.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that, if healthy, we win the season series vs Boston 3-1.

    9. Z-man

So I’m wondering what Lin has shown thus far that indicates that he was worth double what Felton is making…

Well I guess I wont be watching much if any of the Knicks-Celtics game tomorrow night….

They’ve really structured this to screw the Yankees over nicely. We’re the number one seed, but the Tigers get an extra day off despite the fact that both series went to 5 games.

Yeah its the stupid adding the 2nd WC this season despite the schedule being with the old playoff structure in mind. Starting next season the playoff schedule should be back to normal.

It was complete incompetence. How in the world do you do something like that? How do you not have the wild card locked down before you make the schedule? Yes, it will be better next year, but not a whole lot of solace for the teams this year.
