Jerome Jordan has now put up nice numbers overseas, in the D-League and in limited NBA minutes. His soft shooting touch seems to be for real-- he shot 93.8% from the free throw line in the D-League and 80% from the line in the NBA.

I hope he gets a chance, because I bet he'd be productive.

Frank:
How about this for a plan:
Sign Camby to the mini-MLE for 2 years. Ask Jason Kidd to play for the vet’s minimum. That would be a very solid and deep team. One of the problems with our D last year is that Chandler couldn’t play too aggressively on defense because the whole defense would fall apart if he had to sit. Interior D on the 2nd unit was a big issue.

That is, unless they think Jerome Jordan is really ready to contribute.

Jerome Jordon had nice PER given his scrap minutes. With preseason they better give him opportunity earn some playing time.

Help me here, capologists: how does JR Smith fit into this new cap reality? Will the Knicks be able to keep Lin, keep Novak, use the mini-MLE and also retain JR Smith? The Knicks are gonna need JR because we are paper thin at shooting guard, even with a healthy Shump.

Yes yes and yes. Lin and Novak are Early Bird exceptions and JR hopefully will be a non-Bird exception. So we will still have the mini-MLE. Can't use either the full MLE or the biannual exception without triggering the hard cap though.

Settlement reached, Lin/Novak keep their early Bird rights.Knicks and their fans celebrate lol

Wow! I have never been so happy to be wrong. Major credit to Mark Bartlestein and Jeffrey Kessler. They pressed the case despite the fact that the conventional wisdom (as distilled in cbafaq.com) was that a player claimed off of waivers had his Bird Rights clock reset to zero.

The Knicks now get to keep Lin, keep Novak, sign another veteran at the mini-MLE, sign unlimited additional veteran's at the vet's minimum and avoid the hard cap. If the ruling had gone the other way, the Knicks would have had to use the MLE on Lin, said goodbye to Novak , had no mini-MLE and been limited to signing only veteran's minimum players up to the $74 million hard cap.

Can't wait for Game 1.

Frank:
Oops. There’s only 1 Chris Smith on Draftexpress and it’s the one from Mercer. I see now that Louisville’s Chris Smith played 27.5 min/game, averaged 10 points/game, shot 40% from 3.That makes more sense.

He's also a dead ringer for J.R., so that's always fun. I saw him a few times and he was halfway decent. Reasonable summer league guy, but I agree with you that bringing him in is probably at least somewhat a goodwill gesture towards JR. Can't hurt certainly.

Also supposedly TD volunteered to play in summer league. Has to be a good sign that he realizes he needs to completely reearn his spot. I'm not giving up entirely on him. He was basically as bad as it's humanly possible to be this past year, but it was a pretty horrible situation. It seems like the complete loss of his shot was probably at least partially due to injury, and then he was completely miscast as a Dantoni style PnR PG which seemed to mess with his head somewhat. If he can just refind his shot this offseason I still think he can be a useful guard off the bench as long as you let him do Toney Douglas stuff instead of trying to make him a PnR point.
