    1. We’re “low balling” the Jazz. Ha! The article up there does make a valid point. Why would the Jazz want Fournier? Is that the hold up? Could this all become a three team monster where Lakers gate Evan and Julius, Utah gets young players and picks, we get Donovan and cut Russ.

I’m happy no slaughter has occurred so far. I’d like to see us add Donovan if we can keep one pick, protected or unprotected, in each upcoming draft and two of Toppin, Grimes, and Quickley. Shipping any vet is fine. If they want RJ or Mitch (eventually) that would change the entire structure of the deal, and I’d want to give fewer picks and prospects.

    2. “Overall, there is a reason to be less pessimistic about RJ’s 2pt shooting numbers than what it looks like at first glance. The Knicks were terrible at 2pt% as a team, not just RJ, but every non-center/Obi player on this roster was bad at 2pt%. In fact, all of our non-center veterans had near career lows in 2pt%. We had no PG, no offensive system, and bad spacing.”

      Ben R,

That was an excellent post in the last thread.

I’ve been saying the same things for awhile, but you laid it out with all the data. We solved the PG problem, but the spacing could still be an issue next year. What we really need is a stretch PF to replace Randle and an upgrade defensively at SG from Fournier that can also shoot (he and Kemba were a disaster defensively). I think that will open the floor, solidify the defense, and get us back on the right track. As I keep saying, I don’t think Mitchell is the answer unless it’s a great deal. I’d way rather try to trade Randle and Fournier when we can and roll with Obi and Grimes to see if one or both can grow into those roles. If not, we have plenty of time and assets to make other moves. We can try, but we don’t have to fix everything in one summer. Just getting a starting PG was a major step forward.

    3. “Could this all become a three team monster where Lakers gate Evan and Julius, Utah gets young players and picks, we get Donovan and cut Russ.”

I think something along those lines it what makes the most sense. but I’m still not a fan of giving up our young players and picks for an undersized SG that doesn’t defend well. The strange thing is that I think Mitchell fell in the draft because he’s undersized and people were concerned about his defense. Then in is first year or so he seemed to be able to make up for his lack of size with length. But ultimately, I think the fears were probably justified. He may have become a much better offensive weapon than expected and still be a very good player overall, but I think Brunson, Mitchell, and RJ is going to become problematical for us if we go through with a deal like this. That team is too undersized, especially if Obi remains and is part of the back line defensively.

    4. Now that everybody knows about Philippe and Mr Chow’s, no free agents are going to want to sign here.

    5. “but I’m still not a fan of giving up our young players and picks for an undersized SG that doesn’t defend well.”

Is he an SG? I question the fit too. Seems like he became available after we got the same thing. Maybe we’ll eventually trade Brunson for him, lol. Would that be an upgrade?

There’s gotta be an explosive 3 and D wing out there for half the price. But I think Leon’s got this.

    6. But I think Leon’s got this.

Leon must know the risk to Ainge going into the season without a trade is much bigger than his. Utah sans Gobert with Mitchell is not desirable any way you look at it. But our Knick roster just might click, or look like it will click given time. In which case Ainge is left dealing with Riley.

    7. Brittney Griner sentenced to over NINE YEARS for having a gram of cannabis oil in her luggage while in Russia. Awful.

    8. >Brittney Griner sentenced to over NINE YEARS for having a gram of cannabis oil in her luggage while in Russia. Awful.<

Put Ainge on the phone with Putin. He'll give Putin independence for the Russian speaking regions in the east, a promise of Ukraine not joining NATO, an agreement the west can accept regarding Ukraine's defense and independence, end the war, open up the flow of energy, fertilizer and food for the world, get the release of Griner and somehow come out of it with NBA draft picks for himself.

    9. Assuming no DM trade so we keep all our youth, Brunson signing and DRose and RJ motivated by a contract year, – are we a legit playoff contender (top 6) as is? – If yes, I’m OK with running it back as is.

    10. Normally I’d say she’d be home before summer’s over, but damn did she pick a shitty time to get nailed. I’ve always liked her, but when a sociopathic kleptomaniacal autocrat who came up from the ranks of the KGB and routinely murders his opponents in other countries with nerve agents and polonium goes to war just out of spite and your own country tries to deep-six their economy, pack your bags, gift your hashish to a local panhandler, and get the fuck out of Dodge. Maybe even skip packing your bags.

    11. Remember, folks, that Ainge tanked for a year and blatantly didn’t try to win for another during Paul Pierce’s prime. He also held onto KG, Pierce, Allen and Rondo for a while after everyone knew that core was done title hunting. Everyone was sure he was sabotaging himself, but he ended up getting an amazing package. Likewise, he held onto the young Celtics core as the team chronically underperformed and as it seemed everone was shouting about how dumb he was for not trading some picks/youth for a star.

Meanwhile, I think Rose is probably fired sometime next season unless the Knicks win a playoff series this year.

THe idea that just because on paper the Knicks should care less than Jazz about getting this deal done is naive or wishful for a knicks fan. When does this team ever operate in a way that it should on paper? If hte Knicks acted on what they had on paper, they wouldn’t even consider trading for Mitchell in the first place.

    12. NYC Direct, I think if we don’t make any other trades, we’re probably a play-in team. To be a top 6 team, probably at least two of the following things would have to occur:

      1. RJ and/or one of the other kids makes a substantial leap.
      2. Brunson has an unexpectedly large impact on the rest of the roster solely by being a real point guard and not Burks or Elf.
      3. Julius Randle gets his head straight, and/or his circus shots start falling again.

    13. Note to Shump: don’t vacation in Russia.

My heart brakes for her to be used as a political tool. This is awful. However, American’s must realize that the world doesn’t always care to cave their way of life.

My cousin went on an 1yr aniversary trip to Dubai, took a ride with his girlfriend into an off tourist location to explore. All the locals were staring at his girl (wore a short skirt and tank top), – so he decided to put on a little show and started making out with her in bazar caffe in teh middle of the day. ~20 min later both were arrested, held for two weeks and finally let go with a $1,500 each fine each. She broke up with him as soon as they landed at JFK.

    14. Latke,
Donovan and Jaylen would be fun. Donovan is an upgrade over any individual player on our team right now. But I think the present trade parameters would worsen the squad as a whole, and even more importantly, cost us valuable opportunities in the future.

So, I agree but also would like to see it happen without a Faustian bargain.

I think, if you look at Leon’s tenure, unless you consider missing out on Bones Hyland some kind of disaster, you’re looking at a team with untapped potential, extra resources and a patient FO. Most importantly, if you don’t make a big move now, you don’t really lose flexibility. Sure, Julius could continue to spiral down, RJ and the kids could plateau, but that’ll be a work in progress for a while. As it stands now, there won’t be big expectations for the roster and we can keep developing.

People thought because lol Knicks that we’d be left with DM and Sheldon Williams. But nothing has indicated that Leon will get played like that.

    15. A kid named Michael Fay got caned in Singapore for vandalism when I was in high school. His ass took seven strokes of rattan to teach us a valuable lesson about breaking the law in another country.

Interesting story, not sure why this has anything to do with Brittney Griner.

    17. britney griner has definitely had a chance to gain an interesting perspective on people and their environments, of all sorts…this won’t break her, what a crazy test though…

    18. I’ve been to Russia on a few occasions. It was a horror show just about every time I went. Moscow was the most lawless, corrupt city I have ever visited.

I went with APHG, and every single person in the touring party except me got shaken down for everything that was in their wallets by “police” at some point in the trip. I looked enough like a vaguely normie European that I blended in but everybody else got harassed pretty much every time they left the hotel.

The first time we went, we played a show at a big venue in Moscow and it was a really strange audience. It was an obviously affluent, upper class type of audience, not the typical kind of crowd we’d see at APHG shows. Regular not-rich people in Russia simply can’t afford to attend events like that. So the next night we played an unannounced secret show at a tiny club, and it was packed full of kids who were diehard fans but couldn’t afford to go to the “real” show. These kids were awesome, they were so thankful to be able to see us play and to chat with us. Most of them spoke fluent English and they were all very emphatic about how living in Russia sucks.

We stayed in a hotel once that was one of the famous “seven sisters” buildings built by Stalin and maybe I was being paranoid, but I got the distinct feeling like I was being monitored at all times. Moscow has the most oppressive architecture of any city I have ever visited, it seems like everything is intentionally built to make you feel small and overpowered.

The last time I visited we played at some weird awards show, and it was a temporary venue. The electricity seemed extremely janky– anytime you’d plug something in sparks would fly out of the socket. When the show was over and we were packing up one of our local handlers touched a wire and got like eighty gazillion watts of electricity shot through her body. The next day her arm was in a sling and told us that the doctors said she’d “eventually” get use of her arm back.

    19. The times I’ve been to Moscow (back in the early 2000s) I have felt a disconnect between the people and the government. And, somewhat more recently, a friend of mine played a gig in Moscow, and, because he was openly gay, audience members had to be over 18 to attend. He sang a song he wrote about a gay reckoning and dedicated it to “my favorite gay composer, Tchaikovsky.” Then, for his next song, he dedicated it to “my second favorite gay composer, Mussorgsky!” (This was shortly after the Pussy Riot episode, so it took a lot of balls (npi), but he said the audience loved the show, and he felt very at ease (obviously). I think that with most authoritarian regimes, especially secular ones, the government’s laws are very out of touch with the cultural interests of the general urban-dwelling public. (That said, if he did this post Ukraine invasion, he’d probably be looking at 20-to-life in the gulag.))

    20. Coincidentally just finished a fairly bad international espionage thriller, “The Cellist” by Daniel Silva. Formulaic and feels like he slammed it out in a hurry, plus he’s an uninhibited bling name-dropper, but it had two things going for it — a really good dive into the money side of the Kremlin, it felt like the guy knew what he was talking about (he is married to a journalist); and after Jan. 6 he clearly decided to totally rewrite the ending to include that (he admits it in an interesting end note). Plus two important characters are Putin and Trump, although he calls neither by name.

Not good enough to recommend purchasing, but if anyone still goes to the library, it provides an interesting view of Putin’s Russia that is probably more true than not…

    21. Slump should claim a free speech defense. A protest showing solidarity with Griner.

      Whole thing is messed up.

    22. I feel for Griner. How come one gram gets prison time? Either the laws in Russia are crazy or she is being used as a political instrument to hurt the US. Maybe both.
Made me remember Alan Parker’s Midnight Express, based loosely on Billy Hayes’ autobiographical book of the same name about his five year experience in the turkish prison system.

    23. Congrats MJG, loved the article. And yeah, if Billy Hayes did it several times, it really is smuggling and it’s not at all comparable to Griner. You made me interested in Stone’s memoir, recently i didn’t pay attention to his work but back in the day i liked a lot of his films, with Natural Born Killers at the top of the list.

    24. Shohei Ohtani is the quintessential good stats bad team guy. Sure he hit two home runs tonight but the Angels lost 8-7. He needs to make more winning plays like Derek Jeter did.

The Angels hit 7 solo homers and lost 8-7? That seems impossible.

    27. Ohtani hit a home run on a pitch that was literally, I am not exaggerating, eight inches off the plate

    28. That was a weird ending to the Mets game but a win is a win…glad they didn’t burn Diaz for nothing.

    29. The Angels hit 7 solo homers and lost 8-7? That seems impossible.

It does until you realize Ohtani isn’t willing to do the little things that make you win.

    30. That is classic Bunge right there.

Ohtani is like Yzerman in NHL 94

That’s for you Hubert. I bet you know what I am talking about.

    31. Don’t respect the National Anthem? Don’t respect the flag? FUCK YOU NO CITIZENSHIP

Bunge’s clown impression looks eerily like a lifestyle

    32. maybe one day you’ll experience something which changes your “perspective”…you’ll add the ability to see beyond your own thoughts and feelings…

if it’s difficult to empathize and show compassion for others, how difficult must it be to do for ourself…

no doubt the past somehow justifies the present and strongly reinforces your future, enjoy the ride i guess…
