    1. Brian Cronin: Good for Atkinson. I had no idea why he wanted that gig.

You think the Hornets are in a worse situation than the Knicks? Or would he turn down the Knicks too? It’s just because i was in favor of Atkinson when we hired Thibs and now i don’t know if he would’ve accepted the gig.

I could be more about the change in the GSW sitution…

    3. Z-man: Happy Fathers’ Day to all the KB fathers out there

It’s Fathers’ Day in the US? Here it’s on March 19. Happy Fathers’ Day to you all, then. :)

    4. Happy Father’s Day, Wigginsblogger! With special shout-out to future hall-of-famer Andrew Wiggins.

    5. Thinking about it, playing Randle and Obi together might be a bad idea. And not just defensively.

It is a bad idea, which makes this whole conversation rather ironic. Randle’s best suited to playing center, and Obi is best suited to playing power forward next to a player who offers rim protection and shooting. (I think Obi would thrive as a center on offense, and I would try that in spurts. but it would be really ugly on the other side.)

    6. I looked at a Hornets blog. A) They are pissed at Atkinson and B) many think that Golden State did something to get Atkinson to stay. That could be. It could also be that Atkinson’s family rebelled at moving to Carolina, or something in the way his interactions went with the Hornets turned him off.

    7. Isn’t a head coach paid several multiples of an assistant? I think Atkinson could make $1M+ as an AC for a team like the Warriors, but I assume he’d get $3-4 million to coach somewhere else. That’s a lot of money to turn down.

Even if Kerr is planning on retiring in a few years, at that point Steph/Klay/Dray are winding down their careers. Is it all that certain the Warriors will be a better team in say 2026? Maybe so.

    8. Also, with a fair number of teams having multiple picks below us now there might be some good trade down options. Doesn’t seem like we’re into that kind of thing, but who knows?

    9. The Bay Area is a dope place to live if you’re wealthy as is the west coast in general. And the warriors are a super well managed franchise backed with Silicon Valley money. It’s not always just about making a few million more.

    10. It appears we got two morning threads today, so reposting:

Eason will probably be the highest player on my board when we’re picking but it doesn’t seem like we’re even doing due diligence. It’s a shame, but unless we really screw up there should still be good alternative options available.

I also am starting to like Sochan a lot. If I had to bet on this class having a future DPOY it would be Chet (who should be the consensus #1 pick, but I digress), but Sochan would be a close-ish 2nd. There aren’t many guys in the league who can legitimately defend 1-5, and I think Sochan can legitimately do it. The offense is another story but he’s far from hopeless on that end.

I hope we avoid the AJ Griffin experience. He’ll probably be in the NBA for a long time because of his shooting and body, but I’m just not seeing much of anything else there. We need some upside swings and I don’t view him as having much.

I think TyTy is actually being a bit underrated. His numbers aren’t much worse than a lot of the guys mocked ahead of him, and he was dealing with a pretty significant injury as well as all of Cal’s weirdness. Ideally if we got him it would be in a trade down, but I wouldn’t be upset regardless.

I’ve got the other semi-realistic lottery guys ranked Daniels/Mathurin/Sharpe/Davis/Branham in that order for now, but there are a lot of close calls there and I can see the argument for almost any order between them.

    11. I think Randle & Obi could work well on offense but it might be completely unplayable on the other end.

    12. DRed:
I think Randle & Obi could work well on offense but it might be completely unplayable on the other end.

Yep. Nothing wrong with having two players of that height as your frontcourt (as I read this morning that the Dubs are the first champions without someone over 6’10”), but a big problem having these two particular players as your frontcourt. They would get demolished inside.

    13. The sad thing is, Randle can be a good defensive player, at least by the eye test. He was in the first Thibs season. Not otherworldly lockdown defender, but he used his strength and his relative quickness at the position to make his opponents work. If he was willing to put in that effort every night, perhaps by dialing back on his offensive workload (particularly where playmaking is concerned), I think his strength combined with Obi’s quickness and verticality would be… not ideal, and probably not good, but enough to get by with if they’re scoring well at the other end. But I can’t see Randle sacrificing in that way, nor do I think Thibs would trust the duo in that way.

And then there are the offensive problems that have already been discussed here, and how the team plays with cement shoes when Randle is on the court and like they’ve entered the Speed Force when Obi subs in for him.

    14. Randle isn’t long. And you’d prefer to have a dominant rebounder who can throw an outlet pass next to Obi or a big guard who can get into transition.

Obi and Randle aren’t a good fit but maybe they can make it work for a year.

    15. How do you guys feel about the Woodhead move? Do you think it will effect the Knicks right away, or will it take some time to ripple through the league?

    16. Donnie Walsh:
How do you guys feel about the Woodhead move? Do you think it will effect the Knicks right away, or will it take some time to ripple through the league?

I don’t know what you are referring to.

If they’re in a better position than the Knicks, it’s not by any great shakes, but more importantly, they’re not really a “development” team anymore, at least not on offense. They’re a team that needs to play some defense, and that’s not Atkinson’s forte. He’s a good coach, but a marginal team that doesn’t look like it has a lot of avenues to get better that doesn’t play defense isn’t what I would want to take over if I had options elsewhere.

    18. Hope Knicks will be aggressive in the draft. Want to see Fournier / Noel and even randle go for younger players picks. We should stick to being young and flexible and wait for a star free agent to come here. Meanwhile lets develop the youth and get picks. One day we will get there.

    19. ***I don’t know what you are referring to.***
