    1. Hubert, I agree that DeRozan would have been a better signing that Fournier as we see it right now but as you said, at the time, not many here would have been excited. about it, including you or me. He’s 32 and all of a sudden having the best year of his career, including a career high 3pt% on 2.5 attempts a game. He’s locked in at $27+ million for 3 seasons, and the sign-and-trade to get him cost several outgoing assets, including a protected first and two seconds. Chicago basically went all in this year because if they didn’t they surely would have lost LaVine. It’s possible that DeRozan didn’t even want to come here.

As to fit, the FO was clearly prioritizing 3-pt shooting especially due to the playoff debacle. I suppose you could argue in hindsight that they should have prioritized shot creation more generally whether from 2 or 3, that’s fair. But like I said, we were all pretty unanimous at not wanting DeRozan eating up a chunk of this team’s cap even given what he has consistently brought to the table for his entire career. Given all of our needs, I think it’s not a bad decision by the FO to have not pursued him, even considering what he’s doing in a total win-now situation in CHI.

    2. Put another way, I think DeRozan occupies the same offensive space as Julius should in a finished win-now roster. They are both ball-dominant 2-point iso scorers with suspect 3-pt games who are decent all-around players. They would definitely work it out and coexist, and would definitley make our team better right now even with any overlap. But Fournier is younger, making significantly less, did not cost assets, and still figuring it out. He was a huge part of the comeback vs, the Bulls on the defensive end and continues to hit huge shots in crunch time, including the game-tying basket against the Nets.

As to Caruso, sure, if he would have come here for the same money, passing over him was a huge blunder. So sure, we sould have singned him vs. Kemba if that were available. But for the cost of Fournier + Kemba, you could not possibly have gotten Caruso and DeRozan without sacrificing cap space, assets and picks.

    3. So in summary, I don’t think it’s completely fair to judge the Knicks FO’s offseason by comparing them to the Bulls. Clearly the Bulls were further along in the team-building process than us, and had more urgency to win now so that LaVine wouldn’t leave. I think we need a couple more young players via the draft who become established rotation pieces. Obi, IQ and RJ all look promising but aren’t quite there yet. We are nowhere near being contenders, and the big moves are yet to come. So a meh offseason shouldn’t be panned on the basis of what CHI did with theirs.

If you want to compare CHI to NYK, the better question is: How likely are the Bulls to go to the finals and compete for a championship after they max LaVine? Would you want to trade rosters, cap situation and future assets with them? I would say no, but it’s certainly reasonable to say yes is the better answer.

    4. Tommy Beer:

Jeez… Charlotte announces that LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Jalen McDaniels and Mason Plumlee have all entered health and safety protocols.

    5. I was a bit skeptical about trading for Lillard since i thought Rj would break out. But I would probably do the trade now

    6. Macri:

Today for New York: RJ is a go, and Nerlens Noel will go through warmups and see how he feels, but it’s looking good.

    7. KevinR:

      But would Portland?

    8. If they could get Ben Simmons probably not. But if that isnt an option Knicks are the second best option I would assume

    9. Not suer if anyone posted this, but in light of the Hornets news, makes sense:

Sources: Beginning Dec. 17, NBA players who have not received booster COVID-19 dose will be subject to game day testing. Also on Dec. 17, team personnel who have yet to receive booster are no longer permitted to interact with players, travel with team or continue as Tier 1.

    10. Where do we think the bidding starts on a Dame package? RJ, Obi, Quickley, Grimes and draft picks seem to be our best assets. We have all our own picks plus a Dallas pick and the lightly toasted Charlotte pick. Samanic and Deuce are also on the roster.

That’s actually not a terrible collection of assets.

    11. KevinR: Our Luka dropped 36 and 12 in Westchester could be Obis replacement if he were traded.

I’ve seen a couple of games, in a fast forward non important stuff style, and his defense is atrocious. One time he didn’t even jump, so the other team got the rebound and easy bucket. Another he was left eating dust, and let his guy pass by him with no resistance at all. Granted, it was in the first games of the season, so i need to go watch the most recent games to check if he’s improving on that end or not. If not, he’s not an NBA player.

I’ve seen enough of Luka to largely agree with this assessment. His defense is a major issue right now. You could compare him to Knox in that way, a guy who can put up big numbers against lesser competition but would give it all back plus more against NBA players. But that’s the thing…that’s what the fucking G-League is for. Frank, Knox, Samanic, McBride….let them get 40 minutes a night and focus on the exact thing they suck at, and if they don’t improve, then you know you will never have an NBA player. Maybe they do enough though to entice another team to give up an asset for them or to consider them an asset coming back in a larger trade. Having them rot on the end of the bench accomplishes absolutely nothing.

    13. Randle is playing like 2019-2020 Randle.
RJ is playing like 2019-2020 RJ.

Most of the rest of the guys have been passable, but Randle and RJ have been bad and horrifically bad, respectively.

The rest of the team has been passable enough, but those two guys stinking out the joint has killed the team.

Also Alec Burks at PG is dumb and they should just play Quickley with the starters, and let Grimes run with the second unit if Kemba is not going to play.
