Melo’s most recent comments would seem to suggest that he might waive that NTC b/c the drama will restart this next week.

Oakley needs to be careful with what he says from here on out. I think is is fair for him to ask for a public apology from Dolan in the media to make up for the possibly slanderous comments he made in a very public interview, but other than that, shut up. I think that might shift pressure back on Dolan.

    2. Totes McGoats

I may be the only one who feels this way but…

I like Hornacek as a coach. I think he’s good. I believe Phil’s demands are holding him back. But I also believe that if given the same roster, we’d be better off with Fisher had he not lost all credibility with the Barnes issue. I think he was on his way to being a really good coach..a diamond in the rough. He had Melo playing better defense and team ball and he had a better defensive system in place. Of course, Hornacek is a better coach right now. But, if we’re building for the future, wouldn’t you want a Derek Fisher growing in the franchise as well? He was alot closer to being our Brad Stevens or Mike Budenholzer than Hornacek is. Maybe Phil’s demands held them both back, though it has nothing to do with Fisher’s off court issues.

    3. Philmelo

Per Adrian Wojnarowski and Chris Mannix of The Vertical:

“The Knicks have not brought anything to his [Anthony’s] group that would inspire them to really want to waive this no-trade clause,” Wojnarowski noted in the clip above (starting at 6:17). He added, “Most of the teams who had interest in him are looking in other directions right now and expect Melo to remain in New York, at least for the rest of this season.”

    4. thenoblefacehumper

I’m for holding onto Melo if no offer makes sense (i.e. no offer nets us an unprotected first or player who could obviously fetch one), provided that we tear down the team around him. Trade KOQ, Lee, and Jennings and this team will not win many games regardless of whether or not Melo is on it.

    5. Bruno Almeida

      yeah, no Tatum please.

if there are no offers, keep Melo, what can we really do… shut him down for a while so he doesn’t get injured and play Rose 40 minutes a game and the tank should be fine.

    6. chrisk06811

seems like Melo has made an internal compromise on waiving the NTC. He’s staying in NY; but only playing on 1/2 of the floor.

I wonder if he heard that Trump was shutting down the press and figured that meant he shouldn’t play D?

    7. Farfa

I’d be ok shutting down Melo if he stays here, maybe faking a shoulder injury or something. We need to preserve his trade value and we need to play our young guys (even if actually playing Melo would be good for the tank).

    8. thenoblefacehumper

Apparently the Wolves want Shumpert. That could actually be huge news in terms of a Melo trade, because it means the Cavs wouldn’t have to trade Love or TT to make it work. If they trade Shumpert, Frye, and Jefferson they can take on Melo (and KOQ for that matter with the trade exception).

The question is how we could make a 3 team trade with Cleveland and Minnesota worth it for us. Minny could send us Rubio but it’s highly doubtful they’d do that just for Shumpert. Same goes for any future first of theirs. Regardless, the salary works this way:

      Knicks receive: Frye, Jefferson
Cavs receive: Melo, maybe KOQ if they can make it worth it for us
      Wolves receive: Shumpert

Cavs can’t send firsts until 2021, but 2021+2023 would be pretty enticing. Minny could give us literally anyone on their roster but it’s unclear who they’d be willing to part with for Shumpert.

    9. DRed

The Knicks aren’t going anywhere this season, with or without Melo. Melo controls whether or not we can trade him. So the Knicks have to take Melo out of their decision making process. Move whoever we can, except for Kristaps and Billy. Nobody else has any future value

    10. Silky Johnson, Fleet Admiral of the Tank Armada

Also everyone’s speculating that there might be a Boston-Chicago trade for Jimmy Butler. What if we were able to get them Carmelo as well in a three team trade?

      This could work:
      http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=zudulx7

Chicago gets one of Boston’s Nets picks, and we get the other. This isn’t likely to happen, but that trade could make Boston a real threat to overtake Cleveland in the east.

    11. iserp

Boston wont make such a drastic change when they are sitting 2nd in the standings. I think they’d rather add Butler using some of their future assets, and keep their players. Also, Melo is way older than his current core, which they can use in the long run.

I want Rubio in this team, and i wonder what Minesotta would like in return. I really wish that Thibs is so attached to his old guys that Rose+Noah would be some kind of starting point. Rose would play this year while Dunn becomes experienced, Noah would be ‘veteran presence’. We can get them out of Pekovic, but I guess we would need to add something extra. I guess everything is just wishful thinking in my part.

    12. Reub On Our Way To Greatness

I’m on the high seas again. This time with CAPTAIN THEO. That’s a good thing, isn’t it?

    13. yellowboy90

I wonder if Utah would be interested in Lee and O’quinn for both their late 1sts, Raul Neto, and Jeff Whitey. Lee and O’quinn would give them legit back ups and a veteran presence in the playoffs. They could just slide into Utah’s cap space. I think that would make them legit contenders because it improves some of their weak areas.

    14. ClashFan

      @22
Now, that’s an interesting one! I haven’t really seen any Utah rumors. There’s no way that they are beating GS, but I wonder if they’d be interested in making some serious noise.

    15. Philmelo

I would make that Utah trade, but Jeff Withey has been a really underrated player for Utah this season. I wonder if they make that trade.

    16. Rashiiid

Optimists… KP is validated by his victory in the Skills Competition

And D-Rose was the champ in 2009!

    17. yellowboy90

I would make that Utah trade, but Jeff Withey has been a really underrated player for Utah this season. I wonder if they make that trade.

Withey plays less than 8 minutes for Utah so I doubt that including him would hold up things.

    18. alsep73

If Boogie’s on the trade market for real, things are about to get interesting. If nothing else, this may finally flush out a lot of the Celtics’ trade assets, and in turn inspire the Cavs to make a move to counter it.

    19. Frank

While it’s true that Melo ultimately controls if he leaves or not, what would he do if you trade away Lee, Rose, KOQ, and Jennings for future assets or non-established players?

    20. thenoblefacehumper

I think he’d still stay if that’s what he was going to do before those trades. Clearly the quality of the team isn’t a major factor in his decision or he’d be gone already. You almost have to admire how much Melo doesn’t even really pretend to care about winning. I’m not being sarcastic, it’s kind of refreshing that he doesn’t even spiel boilerplate about it anymore.

    21. Philmelo

Giannis actually looks athletically freakish among his All-Star brethren. He truly is The Greek Freak.

    22. DRed

280 field goal attempts and 2 blocked shots. I’ve seen enough bad defense in the last 15 years to have no interest in watching that.

    23. Accidentank 2017

Melo ain’t getting traded ever. Melo and Phil Jackson are gonna ruin the Knicks into the next decade because of their feud and Dolan ain’t gonna fire nobody.

I bet we go on a winning streak fueled by the “real Derrick Rose” and it knocks us out of the top 10 of the draft and into a Derrick Rose contract.

    24. Philmelo

Wow. Pelicans are sporting Twin Towers 3.0.

Funny thing here is that I think getting rid of Cousins will help the Kings performance this season.

    25. d-mar

You gotta think the Kings could’ve done better, at least figure out a way to get a high lottery pick out of the deal.

Or maybe Boogie’s reputation scared off suitors? As a Celtics hater, I was actually hoping Boston would get him.

    26. kevin5318

Funny thing here is that I think getting rid of Cousins will help the Kings performance this season.

Lets hope so. Sixers have swap rights.

    27. yellowboy90

Adrian Wojnarowski ?@WojVerticalNBA 19m19 minutes ago

The Pelicans are including guard Langston Galloway in deal to the Kings, who’ll likely be waived, league sources tell @TheVertical.

      Bring him back Phil.

    28. Philmelo

Though I think this trade makes Nawlins better, its not steal. Cousins is a problem child. He will underperform wherever he goes.

    29. Hugo Busto

Sixers are the real winners here. Still hold swap rights with the kings.

      LOL VLADE, LOL VIVEK.

absolute steal. the boogie/brow combo has potential to be extremely complimentary inside/outside. 100% worth the gamble

    30. Philmelo

The Cavs are trying to use a trade exception that expires Monday and also continue to explore the very slight possibility of acquiring Carmelo Anthony by Thursday’s deadline.

Anthony holds a no-trade clause and it’s unclear he would waive it (he has said he wants to stay in New York). Also, his salary is so high the Cavs would need to part with several roster players and likely find a third team. They have said privately they do not intend to trade the injured Kevin Love to the Knicks for Anthony.

But the Knicks — and more to the point, team president Phil Jackson — may be so desperate to move him by Thursday (as an aside, the Cavs and Knicks play each other that night in Cleveland), there is a feeling inside the league that they would weigh offers for lesser players from teams, including potentially the Cavs.

    31. Brian Cronin

The Kings are a horriblly run franchise, but I sort of admire their, “Fuck it, let’s just get what we can for him.”

Here’s the crazy thing. The Pelicans can give him the biggest contract, but not the same deal he could have gotten in Sacramento. So I could totally see him leaving after next season, in which case, well, yeah, I’d be awfully worried about that guy maybe wanting to play in NYC.

    32. KnickfaninNJ

Apparently, the Kings are likely to waive Galloway. Do we want him back? Maybe the timberwolves will want him.

    33. Brian Cronin

What is the delta between what the Pels can pay him and what the Kings could have?

I believe it is roughly 40 million.

    34. richmond

$209M could have been, now could be $180M.. maybe that $29M can get him a ring that would never happen in Sacramento – they should hire Phil

    35. iserp

The Kings are a horriblly run franchise, but I sort of admire their, “Fuck it, let’s just get what we can for him.”

Yeah, sure, but couldn’t they get something more? I find strange that the Celtics couldnt beat that offer, perhaps they werent interested in a headcase, but Cousins is so talented… I guess they wont win more than 3 games to the end of the season, so they have that going for them.

    36. JK47

There’s another reason this trade makes some sense for Sacramento: their own first-rounder is top 10 protected, and they lose that pick to the Bulls if it’s outside the top 10. That pick will have to be conveyed eventually, but considering this is a strong draft I can see why they would want to delay that.

They should now end up with two reasonably decent first-round picks in this draft instead of none.

    37. Brian Cronin

The funny this is that since they’re going to be tanking from this point forward, there’s a realistic scenario where the Sixers make the playoffs and end up with the #1 overall pick and the #4 pick. Since the Sixers have swap rights with the Kings from that deal that the Knicks should have been all over but they had to reserve their cap room for Arron Afflalo and Derrick Williams.

    38. Brian Cronin

Yeah, sure, but couldn’t they get something more?

I think that the Kings are inept, but I think that even an inept franchise can successfully do a “He’s available. Whoever makes us the best offer gets him” and not fuck it up too bad. So I think that this might just be the best they could get for him, which certainly does suggest that the Nets picks might not even be available for anyone.

Is it just me or the actual All-Star Game makes no sense at all? I understand guys not wanting to get hurt, but why bother playing if no one defends, like, ever? And every year it just gets worse.

    41. Farfa

Jrue-Moore-Hill-Davis-Cousins. That’s a potentially great team, only in the hands of the wrong coach. Also, watch them as they fail to catch Denver, since what NO needed was a Drummond, not a Cousins.

    42. iserp

Yeah, I’m pretty sure the Celtics want to keep that pick, but Brooklyn’s 2018 is surely available which will probably be a top pick anyway, and their own 2018 pick, or the Memphis one. It’s true that teams usually want picks earlier, so maybe the Kings prefered a pick in this draft.
