[...] Many Knick fans were uncertain what to expect from the number 8 pick in the draft. Despite raising some eyebrows with the strength portion of the NBA Pre-Draft work outs, the power forward out of Arizona never shed the soft label from early on in his college career. Frye didn’t earn a spot in the Knicks’ rotation with a weak summer league, including one game where he amassed 10 fouls. Coming into the season I wrote this about him: “I?m still not sure what to expect out of Frye. His frame resembles that of Marcus Camby, but he lacks Camby?s high flying theatrics. On the other hand Frye has a nice touch from the outside and should make a fine partner for Marbury on the pick & roll. With the depth at power forward and Brown?s predisposition towards rookies it?s hard to tell exactly who will see playing time.” [...]

[...] PartI: http://www.knickerblogger.net/?p=304 PartII: http://www.knickerblogger.net/?p=305 With all the excitement over Eddy Curry, Jerome James, Larry Brown, and the three drafted rookies, it seems that Trevor Ariza has become the forgotten man in New York. As a second round pick, no one expected much from him, but last year Ariza might have been the lone bright star in what was a dark season for the Knicks. This season he has a year of experience under his belt, an improved team, and one the best coaches in the game. I don?t want to go as far to say this is a critical year in Ariza?s development, but he won?t find a better environment to improve himself. [...]

Well said. I really like that you stuck strictly to basketball and I?m looking forward to seeing a best case-worst case preview especially considering all the new faces. Also interested to see what you think Larry will do at the 2 and 3.

As you say, the Frye/Camby comparisons might not go far beyond their body types. Frye reminds me of Doleac because if nothing else he has nice touch, but hopefully his game is a little more complete. Or, offensively, kind of a Kurt Thomas in Marcus Camby's body. Defensively I?m not sure. Hopefully down the road people will be comparing Frye and Camby for their attitudes on D.
