latke:
James is a dick.I’m with the twitterer. The 1994 knicks were a blue collar team. They played as hard as anyone and didn’t seek out attention or demand to be babied.

Just a pet peeve, but that team had a lot of millionaires and everyone on that team was in the top 2 percent of earners in the United States. I'm certain "blue collar" doesn't match their lifestyle or training style.
Certainly they worked hard, but they live the lives of thoroughbreads, with multiple coaches, cooks, drivers, massage therapists, state-of-the-art work out equipment, brand new shoes for every game, trainers, doctors, whirlpools, saunas, steam rooms, and fresh towels every single time they wipe off a bead of sweat.
And when they go home to their 3000 to 12,000 square foot pads, entertainment systems, leather everything, in their mercedes, and greeted by their super-model-quality or strip-joint-quality wives, to take their afternoon nap or their four month long off season, they're not eating out of a lunch pails.
Again, just a pet peeve. But these guys have been blessed with physical and mental attributes.
I'm not the kind of guy to lionize working class people. My people are working class, but I've become white collar.
My point only is that the classification "blue collar" has become a cliche' that really doesn't apply.
*breath*
Apologies. :)

@25 I think one of the reasons the Knicks were disliked was the semi-ugly brand of b-ball they played, and final playoff scores like 78-75.
People around the league hated the Riley-era Knicks.

Lots of fans did feel as though those Knicks tried to draw attention to themselves with their over-the-top fighter's mentality (similar to another hated team, the "Bad Boys" of the Detroit Pistons).

I sure didn't mind it then, and I wouldn't mind it with Lebron James on the team (also, I don't think they would hate him, certainly not the way they hate him on the Heat).

I want a knicks team that bleeds blue and orange. Those 90?s Knicks teams you knew that all of those players would have given a kidney to bring the title home. I’ll love those teams till the day I die, and I don’t care that they didn’t bring the title home. I wish they had more than anything because I think they deserved it. But if any team can say they left everything out on the court I think it was those teams. (Quote)

Amen.

Though...I think we could handle a ratio of maybe, say, 70% heart players, and 30% supertalented assholes. It'd be impossible for me to root for the Heat nucleus (100% ass), but if we had LeBron, I would've been totally OK with that!

It's like the Yankees: even the haters would have to concede that those late 90s teams were pretty hard to root against - mostly home-grown talent, with a few hired guns thrown in. But add A-Rod, Kevin Brown, Randy Johnson, et alia...those teams were hard to root for even for Yankees fans.

Congrats on a topic that pulls the lurkers in. Love the dialogue on the board, with the stats slant. Still trying to get used to rooting for a Knicks team that can't always get a stop when they need it.
