Jeez, where have all the old standbys gone and scurried off to?

I’ve been in Tokyo for a week, working and relaxing, and will be here one more week, but it doesn’t seem like much of substance is going on. Chad Ford has a semi-depressing piece up about how bad next year’s draft looks as of now.

Thomas B,Noticed how “then” and “than” are consistently used incorrectly.Here in the US and as well as our European friends.

“Than” should be used in a comparative sentence. If one were to compare the volume of posts in one week compared to the next, then the correct word to use would be than. “More posts this week than last week.”

“Then” is use in instructional sentences to mark order, sequence, or the passage of time. “I should check my facts first, “then” consider whether to correct someone.”

I love DWade but did you actually expect him to lambast D’Antoni or any other coach for that matter???
95% of the players in any league simply stick to a PR scripted framework. It’s very seldom that you’ll get brutally honest statements
like from a Josh Howard or Oakley. Those are the exceptions.

am I the only one who can’t read Thorpe, BTW? He just seems to radiate a smug contempt for everyone which makes it hard to get to the- admittedly strong- insight in his work, for me anyway.

I think that there are so many more writers who can really break down football than there are people who can do the same for hoops. THat’s what makes a writer like David Thorpe or Alan Hahn so good; reading about technique and footwork make us more sophisticated fans.

I don’t see much downside to letting Marbury go. At his best he was OK because he could score and average high single digit assists, but he was never a super efficient scorer and the rest of his game was average at best. At this point, I doubt we are losing all that much with Duhon at PG and we’ll rid ourselves of the distraction and circus. I only wish we somehow could have gotten something of value for such a large expiring contract.

It’s all speculative, but still– the writing is on the wall. Randolph is practicing, Marbury isn’t. There are no roster spots. Jamal is referring to Marbury in past tense (Jamal actually updated us on Ernie Grunfeld’s son (“to be respectfully honest, he doesn’t look like he can really play”) without a mention of Marbury).

I think Marbury is gone.

Now if we can just get rid of Randolph, Curry, Q, Jeffries, James, and Collins we may be onto something here…
