Look at this photo, the name-plate is really low down on the jersey & Ewing looks like he's wearing a crappy knock-off. Ugh. I take back all the kudos I gave for the collar adjustment.

If you're going to re-design the jersey, do it properly. This kind of dreck makes me think that the only reason they made these, "changes" is to encourage we fans to re-buy all our Nix paraphernalia. B/c you know, the jersey's we have now aren't "official."

It may be the lighting in the room, but the orange looks really bright, bordering on pink.

And I hate to use masculine/feminine stereotypes when discussing design, but the white border makes the numbers (and the uni as a whole) look...well...weak.

"In terms of Lee v. Curry, Lee is clearly a very good individual rebounder. He gets far more rebounds not only than Curry but than most bigmen. I don’t know whether he is or is not a good “space eater” (subjectively he’s probably not up there with Curry in his prime space eating days… but I have no idea… a smart, quick player can cut someone off just as easily as a fat one)."

Not for nothing, but I would concede any metric involving the concept of eating to Curry.

SeeWhyDee77,

All teams invite guys to camp on non-guaranteed contracts. They need bodies and/or they want to give a kid they're somewhat high on a shot.

Z,

The ball is up in the air and an offensive guy often has as much chance to get it as a defensive guy. We would be ignoring a big part of the game if we simply ignored a player's rebounding ability. Rebounding may be "importanter" at the margins more than we accept and there probably are factors besides actually grabbing the rebound that should be considered, but it's still an important possession stat.

Also, people are going to game the system no matter what the system is. I don't know that Zach Randolph actively tried to pad his stats after he already had a guaranteed $80 mill in hand, but so long as there's a system it can be exploited. Ignoring part of the game is not going to change that.

When a guy's stats remain fairly constant regardless of team and teammates and coach, it becomes harder to argue that "it IS hard to attribute credit to the players that actually deserve it in basketball" to a very meaningful extent. And basketball stats do remain relatively constant. If one player is responsible for helping his teammates perform better, we should consistently see an uptick in his teammates and team's statistics while he's on the floor.

<strong><a href="#comment-295871" rel="nofollow">Frank</a></strong>: Not to be off-topic here, but a while back I posted a ridiculously long-winded dissertation on why rebound% or gross rebounding numbers might be misleading due to various factors that are not accounted for in usual box scores...

</blockquote>

I think it's interesting Frank. I don't do the "stats thing" here like others, but I've always kind of felt that rebounding stats were overrated. It IS hard to attribute credit to the players that actually deserve it in basketball, even with well-defined stats like scoring and rebounding.

Growing up, before box-scores got expanded to what they are now, I used to see a stat next to blocked shots called "team rebounds". I never knew what this meant. I assumed it meant rebounds that no particular player grabbed, but possession was retained via it. I don't even know if it's a stat that is still kept, but I think "team rebounds" or at least my concept of it, should be the only rebounding stat that is kept.

I haven't really spent much time honing my thoughts on the subject, but it kind of seems to me that only offensive rebounds should really be credited at all. It should be assumed that a defensive player will rebound a missed shot, and only when there is a "break" in the norm should it even be credited.

That way you don't get guys like Zach Randolph sagging off his guy just to pad his stats, just so his agent call sell him as a "20-10" guy, just so he can scam a franchise out of $80 million...

lol..good point RS. The Bobcats kinda pulled it off…I was thinkin maybe the orange could be a lil darker..but now that I think about it-that would be tacky as hell lol. Blue and Orange is kind of a tough color scheme to work with isn’t it?

</blockquote>

I should have written, "Self-appointed aesthetician," but yeah you're right, blue and orange are tough to pull off. They're NYC's official colors, which, combined with "Knickerbocker" being an old nickname for a NYer, (from the Dutch settlers) makes sense. The only way to do it right is to have blue be the predominant color with a few hints of orange. The Mets unis from '62-'75 (pre-double knits) pulled it off, as did the Nix 70's and 90's unis.

On the other end of the spectrum (literally), you get the Bobcats first digs and the Florida Gators duds.

As far as the black goes, yes. Black and orange would work a helluva lot better than black/blue/orange. Alas, personally, I think black/orange should be reserved for teams w/nicknames that are a variation of a tiger -- The Bengals, Princeton, etc.

I can be a serious reactionary when it comes to unis but for the most part, the classic designs look better than any "modern" re-imagining. Alas, the black in the Nix jerseys is no longer even new/current -- it just smacks so clearly of the mid-90's phenomenon where every team threw a little black into their uni to boost sales.
