After a few days of brewing over a horribly officiated Game 1 of what should have been a competitive series, I emailed to league about it. Some of you may want to as well.
http://www.nba.com/email_us/contact_us.html
I highly doubt they'll do anything about it, but it is 1) a good way to vend frustrations and 2) a great way to let the league know that it hasn't gone unnoticed

this is probably more important to this sports blog than most...but for the NYC water supply, the fracking doesnt have to occur in heavily populated areas to contaminate water for 12-16 mil. people (if you include surrounding areas), fracking has to happen where the water comes from, which in this case is the countries (worlds?) largest UNFILTERED water supply, and unless you like the taste of radioactivity and/or benzene in your tap water, and the increase (yes, increase) in GHGs as a result of fracking, look for the source of the funding producing your infotainment

Owen:
Robert – Fracking is actually something I know a fair amount about. While I have reservations about fracking in heavily populated areas, I think the concerns about it, while having merit in some cases, overall are highly exaggerated.

If it were a choice between fracking and not fracking I might agree with you. But it’s not. It’s a choice between getting base load power from coal or from natural. gas.And that is a very very very easy choice from an economic, environmental, and public health perspective.

It takes a irrefutable EPIC FAIL of a loss- and I mean EPIC as in feeling like you got hit with every Street Fighter character's special move ALL AT ONCE + Goku's Kamehameha Wave + Ichigo's Getsoga Tencho - for you guys to come up with your best writeups and material of the year. Talk about laughing off your pain.

I think this season is a wrap. I hope I'm wrong.

So anyway. Do we have any chance of keeping any of Lin/Novak/Smith next season? We might as well talk about their chances in 2013.

I’d say roughly a 30% chance.

There’s a 100% chance Lin will be back (maybe 99%).
I’d give Smith a 60% chance.
And Novak a 55% chance.

All together that comes out to roughly a 30% chance.

I’m probably too high on Smith and Novak, though. I just get a good feeling about both (and “feeling” is all we have to go on, since logic dictates they both leave).

I hope that you are correct, but there is nothing but hope behind your analysis. If the Knicks use the MLE on Lin (as they must), then they would only have the Bi-annual Exception ($2 million/year) for Novak and to hope that JR Smith exercises his $2.5 million option for next year. Novak would have to walk away from the mini-MLE (at least), which would be $3 million/year. Smith should expect a full MLE offer ($5 million/year). Most importantly, they would have to take the hit for at least two years before the Knicks could gain full Bird rights (and be able to bid above the MLE).

I can't believe we are having a conversation that makes Dolan look good.

Robert Silverman: It’s not an alternative. When methane escapes from fracking operations unburned, that CH4 is a far more potent greenhouse gas than CO2 – and the early science indicates that lots and lots of methane escapes from fracking operations, enough to make them worse than coal mines over time.
