Game Thread: Magic @ Knicks

Evidently Nikola Vucevic won’t play tonight. And more importantly, the Knickerbockers will be sporting their white units tonight v. the Disneyworlds.

WE CAN BUILD ON THIS. You know what to do… Go Knicks!

    FIRE DOLAN! shump shump!!

the Knicks are back…..well not really but they can win 2 in a row for the 1st time since April

  2. BigBlueAL

With Vucevic out absolutely no reason for the Knicks to start big. Melo should not have to cover Afflalo or Oladipo.

  3. Owen

Afflalo v. Melo should be interesting….

Afflalo is the answer to what happens when you ask some scrub to start taking all the shots, turns out some of them can do it….

    No Vucevic. Huge for us…

  4. Owen

Breen, subversive as ever, noting that Melo took the fewest shots of the season in our biggest win….

  5. Owen

Wow. I have Oladipo on my fantasy team. But I am seriously impressed with that opening.

Holy cow that block was insane….

  6. BigBlueAL

Shocked the Knicks are playing horrible perimeter D vs a team starting 3 guards who can all shoot and handle the ball.

  7. Kahnzy

I live in Florida, so I have to watch the Magic feed. The call guys are driving me nuts every time they say Shumpert because they pronounce it Shoompert. I-man Shoompert.

  8. BigBlueAL

At least the offense is looking more like last season’s offense once again. Unfortunately the defense is looking as bad as ever.

If the Knicks keep this up offensively though would assume Orlando cools down some and the Knicks win this game.

Even though JR missed the corner 3, I loved the fast betake with Felton getting to the hoop and then kicking. Looked like something the Spurs would do.

First quarter reminded me of mid-80s Detroit vs. Utah. Lots of pace.

I can’t fucking take this anymore. The team defense is SO BAD. Oladipo blows by Hardway, Melo HAS TO HELP but just stands there conserving his energy. Woodson calls timeout and goes and finds the rookie and chews him out the whole time. good ol Woodson accountability. I hate this man so much. We’re going to win a couple games against some shitty teams and he’s going to keep his job and we will continue to be one of the worst defensive fundamental teams in the league all fucking year with this assclown.

  11. ephus

I loved that offensive sequence. Anthony/Bargs PnR –> Melo finds KMart wide open —> KMart back to Melo —> Melo finds Bargnani wide open for corner 3 –> Felton weak side rebound and hoop.

  12. maxwell_3g

my dream is that bargs slowly morphs into a new age lambier. he has the look for it. and he seems to want to compete. we just need to convince him that it is OK to be a complete asshole

  13. The Infamous Cdiggy

I know the 3-ball percentages had to come back up with law of averages and all that, but it’s nice to see guys taking 3′s off the catch vs off the dribble

  14. BigBlueAL

My God, I am really feeling sorry for Harkless. He is getting abused, and I mean abused, by Melo in the post.

  15. er

    I like this Melo

    19-10-6
    20-11-4

back to back both 3 quarters of game time, team is feeding off of his LEADERSHIP. Im gonna go drink to that.

Btw he helped take Afflalo out of the game in the 3rd

  16. The Infamous Cdiggy

I doubt we will see Melo again tonight.

As long as JR doesn’t fall in love with the 3-ball and Metta (aka Ron-Ron) keeps up with his Barkley-esque post offense (?)

  17. BigBlueAL

Now Im getting pissed. Where the f**k was this type of play (thanks to using alot more smaller lineups) the first 16 games???? I know the competition the last 2 nights has helped tremendously but still it is so stupid this team started 3-13.

  18. ephus

For the second night in a row, this is a good night to be a Knick fan. I’m going to live in this moment. More fun than lamenting the past or looking to the future.

  19. The Infamous Cdiggy

Looks like someone’s finally gotten yall’s comments to the Knicks coaching staff.

JR taking it to the rack or hitting 3′s off the pass. Prigs getting decent burn.

Guys aren’t doing too much out there, staying w/in themselves.

And Country Cole with a lil hook shot!

  20. Kahnzy

Looking at the box score Amar’e has 0 minutes. What happened?

He was held out of this back-to-back. Woodson said he’ll play Sunday against Boston.

  21. er

Melo didn’t shoot a single 3. Half of his FGA in the paint.

Doesnt want to lower his percentage any more lmao. I think he only took one yesterday as well

  22. Z-man

OK, I dug these last two games, especially the way we just demolished our opponents in the 2nd half. Yes, these teams truly were steaming dogpiles, but we would have beaten a lot of teams playing the way we did. Takeaways:
    1. MWP has been reanimated, a vintage performance from him. We need him to play well to truly be taken seriously. Not in his prime well, just as well as KMart plays relative to his prime. He did that tonight and it was beautiful!
    2. It’s all between the ears with JR, and it seems he’s in a good place right now. Maybe the legs are coming back and the confidence is coming with it.
    3. Melo showing some superstar leadership out there, bangin’ in the post, passing our of doubles, etc. Nice to see.
    4. Shump is angry, and rightfully so. Maybe he needed to do this to stop Woody from punkin’ him. Maybe Woody needed to do what he did to get Shump to grow up. Who knows? Just hope he sticks around.
    5. Neither team we played had a top-notch PG. Same will be true Sunday. Hopefully the groove will continue before we face one again…

  23. Frank

I think we may have seen Melo play his two most controlled games as a knick. He didn’t explode for 50, hit 8 3s, or even go off for 42 and 17 like some of those playoff games- but he DID trust his teammates, move the ball, and let the game come to him. 6 guys in double figures last night, 7 guys tonight. Just beautiful.

And his quote tonight about how he was trying something different because scoring 30 wasn’t working — wow if going 3-13 was all we needed for that epiphany, it was totally worth it.

  24. ephus

Carmelo was awesome. When Orlando tried to cover him with one defender, he punished from the elbow and on the block. When they doubled, he moved the ball to the open man.

Carmelo, Bargnani and Shumpert played with angry streaks.

JR Smith was hitting his shots.

    Prigioni moved the ball.

Hardaway was hitting, passing and defending.

    Fun night!

  25. Z-man

Oh, and TH2 has been every bit the solid mid-late-round draft pick we hoped he would be. Needs work on defensive fundamentals, but the kid has some swag, a beautiful stroke, and deceptive ups. Owen, when are you gonna come around on him? Who would you rather have right now that was drafted after him?

  26. Zanzibar

Every game until Christmas is favorable. Could be back to .500 by New Year’s Eve.

Nah, Dolan will do something to screw up the good karma and anger St Knick. He’ll cut Cole instead of Chris to make room for Tyler. Or when we sing “Should old acquaintance be forgot”, we’ll have Shump in mind.

  27. Owen

“Oh, and TH2 has been every bit the solid mid-late-round draft pick we hoped he would be. Needs work on defensive fundamentals, but the kid has some swag, a beautiful stroke, and deceptive ups. I mean, the guy does nothing but shoot. Terrible defender, like most rookies. No peripherals.

If he keeps shooting like this I won’t complain. But the chances of that happening are small.

  28. danvt

I’ll say this for Bargs. I don’t know if he’s a net plus this year but he’s made a fan out of me. I can forgive holes in someone’s game. Most players have them. I can even forgive dumb play. There’s a twenty four second shot clock and hoops is chaos theory personified. What I can’t forgive is guys who don’t give effort and Andrea has been working hard to shed that image. He’s blocking shots and playing big men strait up often. This allows us to close out on shooters better. Coach can be more selective in his doubling. I love the mean streak, too. Last night when he embarrassed KG I decided to buy his jersey. I dunno, maybe Mike K is right and the per minute stats will bear out that he’s a liability but I think he’s been a pleasant surprise even to more discerning minds than mine. He hasn’t been lazy. He’s a player you can root for now.

  29. Brian Cronin

And his quote tonight about how he was trying something different because scoring 30 wasn’t working — wow if going 3-13 was all we needed for that epiphany, it was totally worth it.

Right? So great to see. He was amazing tonight.
