Game Thread: New York Knicks vs. Philadelphia 76ers

I love Mitch Lob. I might love Boban more if he were a Knick.

Boy, this is a nice Sixers team. It’s fascinating how poorly they still match up with the best teams in the East, though.

I really struggle with autocorrect Z-Man!

Watching the Sixers lose to the Celts was fascinating. Horford is still so underrated. That guy is such a great player and has 45% of the rep of Melo. Is Horford a Hall of Famer? He is when he is guarding Embiid for sure.

I did think it was a foul at the end of the game though, the one Embiid complained about.

When are they going to put Mitch in?

According to reports, the Knicks are no longer hosting Latvian Heritage Night at Madison Square Garden.

    my, what a surprise…

  4. Owen Post author

So Dell, have you heard about this guy Dotson? Massive upside.

Kornet gets by guys but he is pretty goofy and slow.

  5. Brian Cronin

Dotson looking like a player tonight.

He and Trier are looking like guys who would fit in quite nicely with a two max free agent team, or if they need to trade everyone else for AD, then a three max player team.

  6. Owen Post author

Strange things happen when you pass the ball. Although I have to say, since he’s the only guy I watch when he is on the court, they have missed Mitch cutting to the hoop three times.

  7. Mike Honcho

This team is so much more fun to watch post trade deadline – we’re really putting up a fight here against an excellent team that will inevitably destroy us in the third quarter

  8. GoNyGoNyGo

This is a game I wouldn’t mind the Knicks winning. Losing to the Cavs would have been awful for the tank. Tonight’s a different story. The way that the team came out, though, was awful. Dotson has given the Knicks a needed jolt.

Cavs beating the Nets. In some serious crazy uniforms. D’Angelo Russell not having a good night. At all.

I think Gobert can match up with Boban. But they had a picture of him shooting over Horford and it was absurd how small Al looked.

Great dunk from Smith. He really gets off the floor fast.

  10. Bruno Almeida

I’m just happy Boban will get meaningful minutes for a legitimate team in the playoffs. He’s gonna feast in those limited opportunities.

  11. Mike Honcho

And yeah Gobert was the one who came to mind – Nurkic is probably big enough but he seems a little too erratic to consistently stop him?

  12. Owen Post author

Knox just gave the poster industry a boost.

That was awesome. I’m with Breen, you can’t sit a guy with three fouls after he did that. Total bullshit.

  13. The Honorable Cock Jowles

This Sixers lineup is so goddamn talented. Five guys who can create. Not sure it’ll mean a sky high ORtg but it looks really nice.

  14. The Honorable Cock Jowles

Remember all those threads during Embiid’s first season when I talked about how he was a historically-bad turnover machine? Yep.

  15. Owen Post author

Embiid is pretty great. He’s better than I thought he would be. And I love what the Sixers have done also. Interesting to see how it plays out.

  16. Mike Honcho

Just saw that Embiid got pinged for 25k for criticizing the refs, which I find a bit rich. Every time I see him play it seems like the whistle goes his way more often than not.

  17. Owen Post author

Why the beef between DSJ and Simmons?

Good point from Hahn about DJ having 5 assists. He still looks pretty good to me. Hard to believe he can’t get more than 9 million.

  18. Bruno Almeida

The crazy thing about the Sixers is that if they figure out how to stagger the minutes of their 4 guys properly, the lack of depth might not matter much.

I’m watching Pacers and Bucks a bit and damn, it’s a shame Oladipo is out for the season, the Pacers are really damn good. They won’t go anywhere without him probably, but they’re not going to be a free series for anyone they face.

  19. GoNyGoNyGo

    @38 – That’s what I’ve been arguing. He’s a shade short of being an all-star player.

.This team has thrown in the towel on the season.

  20. The Honorable Cock Jowles

Embiid is awesome, would love to have him. Love how competitive he is.

Didn’t Marqueese Chriss get murdered by Hez last night? He just paid it forward to Jarrett Allen. Holy fuck.

  21. The Honorable Cock Jowles

It will never stop being weird to me that Lance Thomas was a Dukie. That dude has, like, Middle Tennessee State written all over his game.

Robinson is so fucking for real.

Was that Kenan Thompson next to the spot that Embiid jumped into? (Edit: haha, that’s Tracy Morgan)

  22. Mike Honcho

So Kadeem Allen seems fine as, like, the fifth guard on a good team? He can shoot three, tries on defense, moves the ball . . . I doubt he improves further from here but he seems serviceable enough on a cheap contract.

  23. The Honorable Cock Jowles

I know that this is KNICKerblogger, but the Nets-Cavs game is pretty damn good right now. I get more excited to cheer on fellow tanking teams than I do about anything not Mitch related.

  24. Knick fan not in NJ who thinks our rookies will lead us to a lousy lottery pick in 2019

    From the previous thread:

We have-by far- the worst offense in the NBA over the last 10 games so whatever we’re doing it’s not working so good

True, but we did trade Hardaway, who is overpaid but can score, and we stopped playing Kanter, who also could score. Both those guys aren’t defenders, so our defense should have been better even while our offense is worse. Since we don’t seem less competitive after the trade, I would assume our defensive stats actually are better.

  25. Mike Honcho

Kornet and Mitch should hypothetically work. Mitch is capable of defending perimeter shots and Kornet can hit the three, so they complement each other well enough.

  26. Grocer

Kornet and Mitch should hypothetically work. Mitch is capable of defending perimeter shots and Kornet can hit the three, so they complement each other well enough.

They seem fairly well aware of each other’s presence, aren’t really getting in each other’s way.

  27. The Honorable Cock Jowles

The Cavs game just gets crazier. DeMarre Carroll with a buzzer-beating three to send it to 3OT.

  28. Ntilakilla

Mitch is so productive. What an athlete. He manages to hang with a supreme center talent like Embiid.

  29. bobneptune

Eat it Embiid! Thankfully Fitz came to his senses and reinserted DSJr and Knox to insure the loss…..

  30. Owen Post author

Great game for Mitch. Great second half.

Well, Russell started 1-8 with 6 turnovers (edit 1-11). But mean regression is real. It is a good game but potentially bad for the tank. We need to put those Cavs taillights well in front of us….

  31. geo

those are some seriously fugly cav uniforms…I just wish they would win that game already…

suns at clips coming up soon…should be a winnable game for the suns…

  32. Ntilakilla

If we get Zion by miracle why should we even consider trading him and MitchRob to get Anthony Davis? Those two are two thirds of a playoff starting front court waiting to happen.

  33. wetbandit

Imagine the athleticism of Zion+Mitch. Now imagine the superathletic lineup of Smith, Trier, (Knox,) Zion, Mitch. Wutwut.

  34. Owen Post author

D’Angelo Russell was incandescent in that third OT, holy crap.

I don’t really know what to say about Mitch Rob anymore. We missing something?

  35. Ntilakilla

Monster game for Mitchell Robinson vs. Embiid and the Sixers:14 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocksRobinson is the first rookie to tally at least 10 points and 2 blocks in five straight games since…. Joel Embiid in 2016.(h/t @bball_ref)— Tommy Beer (@TommyBeer) February 14, 2019

Joel Embiid on the Mitchell Robinson experience:"A couple times I thought I had a shot, but he just came up with his long-ass arms and blocked it"???— Posting and Toasting (@ptknicksblog) February 14, 2019

  36. ptmilo

i was behind and came back to skim the thread, and man if you guys didn’t drop the ball on this gem. this was the best damn 10-46 fifteen point home loss ever played. what mitch did blocking embiid twice at the end was more exciting than when he blocked harden or luka’s step backs or
landed that rocket on a boat for reuse. he’s at least 30 pct less spastic out there already, and his free throws even looked less bad. it really does make me sad that we won’t see mitch and kp play defense together but then i remember we have mitch and i’m not sad anymore.

knox probably peaked tonight with that ben simmons poster but tbh it’s better than most player’s peaks. you almost never hear breen as annoyed as he gets when knox misses a jumper by a strange margin. also this was low key one of clyde’s best games in years.

  37. thenoblefacehumper

In a re-draft you have to at least start thinking about Mitch right after Luka, right?

I could not possibly care less about the Rising Stars game, but man, Mitch has gotta be an all-time snub.

  38. Ntilakilla

Man, who knew Mark Jackson had that good of a rookie season?

Anyway, do you all remember when the Lakers promised MitchRob they’d draft him in the 2nd round only to take Mortiz Wagner in his stead? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

  39. The Honorable Cock Jowles

I really hope the Raptors are cool with a Knox for Siakam trade. They’re the same height, so it’s a wash.

  40. dtrickey

I could not possibly care less about the Rising Stars game, but man, Mitch has gotta be an all-time snub.

The fucked up thing is that Knox got added to the rising star game as an injury replacement over Mitch.

  41. The Honorable Cock Jowles

Out of players still playing out their rookie deals, who would you trade for Mitch straight up, right now?

  42. Ntilakilla

Out of players still playing out their rookie deals, who would you trade for Mitch straight up, right now?

    Ben Simmons.

  43. geo

It’s going to be wild when the NBA starts drafting HS kids again.

is that though something that will have to wait until the next CBA in 2024?

  44. Brian Cronin

is that though something that will have to wait until the next CBA in 2024?

They can jointly amend the CBA before then.

  45. DRed

The Blazers scored 8 points on a single possession at the end of the game. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before

  46. Brian Cronin

There was some sketchy trash-talking in that game, but otherwise, it was a heck of a game.

Meanwhile, just like I thought, “Tell Otto Porter Jr. to go get his points” is going to result in some fluky wins for the Bulls. I think there is a reasonable possibility that Porter makes the All-Star team next year due to all of the pointzz he is going to score in Chicago. It sort of reminds me of when Glen Rice when to Charlotte and they basically just told him “shoot as much as you want.”

  47. Brian Cronin

Thinking of Rice, I figured I’d look him up and see what he was up to. I thought I’d check to see if he was divorced from his wife he had during his playing days. I figured that there was about a 99% chance that they were no longer together. That lady was always so fired up, there seems to be little chance that they’d maintain a marriage once he wasn’t playing in the NBA and sure enough, they divorced years ago.

EDITED TO ADD: Oh, right, she was actually on one of those Real Housewives shows. They had a scandal where he caught her cheating and he beat the shit out of the guy she was screwing around with.

  48. Z-man

I think it’s fair to say that the #1 question facing mgmt is: how much do they value Mitch? He’s the most valuable asset we’ve had since Patrick Ewing on his rookie deal. Do they realize that?
