Don’t Be the Fly in the Ointment

Apparently, Cuttino Mobley has failed his physical, and the Knicks are not happy.

This is probably not a huge deal (as you can waive the physical requirements, as the Knicks did in both the Curry and Richardson deals), but the Knicks are irked.

Keeps those fingers crossed, people!

Wait, so Zach Randolph is still a Knick?! Oh shit. I have to resume my boycott!.

Maybe they can throw in DeAndre Jordan to make up for trying to sell us a lemon.

(But I’m not picky– I’d till prefer a terminally ill Mobley to Zach Randolph.)

wow. this sounds to me like Walsh just trying to get a draft pick before he signs off, Mobley averaged 20 PPG in the last three games before he got traded. but still, wow.

  3. Michael Zannettis

Mobley’s contract failed a physical? Oh, wait, you mean he was actually going to play for the Knicks? That’s interesting.

Indeed, haha. Hopefully, like Jon Abbey says, maybe Walsh’ll try to spin this into a draft pick of some sort.

According the the LA Times, Walsh was initially asking for a first round pick and/or Camby. Hopefully, we can just swap Camby in the deal and get it done. Still though, assuming Mobley doesn’t come over in the trade, who would the Knicks start at the 2? Q or Nate I suppose, but as someone already pointed on another post out Q is too slow to cover most teams starting SG.

I liked the Elton Brand isn’t better than me anyway quote, myself. Short term memory loss and delusions of grandeur must be nice.

There’s been a rumor the Clips want to move Chris Kaman (I guess to unload the contract, which is even longer than Zach). Instead of Mobley they could send Kaman to Miami; Miami sends Marion to NY. Or Kaman to Utah; Okur to NY.

    Where did you hear that?

If Walsh can some how spin this into a draft pic it would be amazing

The going rumor is Kaman for Jason Richardson (or maybe Gerald Wallace)… Obviously they’d prefer that. But if it fell through, or isn’t a real offer in the first place… getting to keep Mobley (instead of Richardson) isn’t that terrible a fallback. Maintains the cap benefits.

  11. Count Zero

Can’t see us getting any additional here — Clips have to know that we will waive the physical before we will take back Z-Bo’s contract so they have us.

the deadline on this is 6:30 EST, please post whenever you see info that it’s been resolved, as I’m going to be irrationally nervous until then.

  13. Caleb

If Walsh is playing hardball, he could let the deal die, then take it up again… won’t be good for Jon’s health, tho.

  14. Italian Stallion

I’d rather have Camby than Mobley, but I’d rather have Mobley than no deal. I’ll be shocked if this deal falls through.

  15. TDM

Since Mobley is not playing tonight, it looks like we’ll be playing with a short rotation again. Anyone think D’Antoni will ask Marbury to lace up for tonight in an attempt to get him to breach his contact again?

  16. jon abbey

Mobley will play if this deal goes through, D’Antoni said that he’s OK with the new guys not having practiced since they’ve been playing games for their old teams.

  17. Gian Casimiro (SSoM)

It’s 3:30. That was the deadline to rescind the offer. Any reports?

The deadline is 6:30. Tommy Dee reported that all three of the new acquisitions were practicing today and he said that means Walsh is content with his health.

  18. Italian Stallion

I just read somewhere that Mobley was actually practicing this afternoon. I think it’s a done deal.

    From NY Daily News

“Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas have completed their physicals and the trade is a done deal. Both will be in uniform tonight.”

Everyone check out comments at cavfanatic.com. Its hilarious seeing their point of view.

There’s quite a bit of stuff on the front page, so was there anything in particular you were looking at?

  21. jon abbey

first of all, yay on the trade being finalized!

Rotoworld says that the AP is reporting Mobley won’t play tonight but will be in uniform. I don’t see why that is, I think it’ll be hard for D’Antoni to not play him at all given his other options, but I guess we’ll see in a couple of hours.

  22. knicks83

I was referring to their game thread. Fans seem to think this will be an annoying game and hope lebron chokes and the cavs win

“first of all, yay on the trade being finalized!”

    Agreed!

jon– Didn’t Owen owe you a bottle of Crystal for something? If so, collect on it and toast to a new era!

Short term memory loss and delusions of grandeur must be nice.

It’s great. I love every minute of it, especially the short term memory loss.

And I especially like the short term memory loss.

“jon– Didn’t Owen owe you a bottle of Crystal for something? If so, collect on it and toast to a new era!”

hehe, no. a couple of seasons back, I defended some aspects of Eddy Curry’s play, and as Owen has long been his biggest hater (although the rest of the NY fan base is catching up now), he offered me a bottle (in a one-sided bet, nothing ventured from my end) if Curry was an above average player for a season. he’s pretty safe on that bet, I’d say.

    So,
Now that we have two years to kill, what do you guys think of the team. I assume that everyone moves up on the depth chart with Nate getting the bulk of Jamals attempts. Do you guys really think Mobley starts over Nate? Why would they do that?

  27. danvt

I’m very happy with the deal. For fiscal reasons of course, but I feel like I have a team I can more readily root for as well.

Would you guys rather have Harrington or Crawford on a purely basketball level?

On a build a team around level or on a premade team as a plugin to start? Makes a difference…. but I would probably take harrington.
I obviously have no reason for this answer other then I have seen what crawford brings to the table and any player taht shoots 20+ times a game can get hot once every two weeks.
