Wow …. I’m blown away by how good these two trades are. Excellent work by Donnie Walsh and he has my support for Executive of the Year.

Brian, you’re not a big believer in opportunity cost are you? It’s like people who hold onto a mediocre stock for months or years because they refuse to sell for less than they bought, when if they had just bit the bullet early on they could have rebounded by now.

This slightly better trade wasn’t worth the opportunity cost, IMO.

Yeah, “people ripped Walsh for not making any trade” is a total straw man.
Yeah, we wanted Walsh to trade Z-Bo. In fact, most people wanted him to make the deal he eventually did do. But not many people wanted to deal Z-Bo and the first, and the relatively few people who did certainly were not ripping Walsh for not doing it.

I can only speak for this site, and on this site, that’s not what happened. when we thought the deal Walsh turned down was Randolph for a second rounder, we mostly ripped him. once it came out that the deal (allegedly) involved a first rounder from our side, people mostly backed off.

and we still have Malik Rose, not sure what you’re talking about there.

Go to all of the blogs. People were bagging Walsh left and right for not doing ANY trade that got rid of Randolph. Remember they wanted Zach Randolph, AND $3 million dollars, AND a first round pick. IN RETURN we would get a 2nd round pick. There is no comparison. Even compared to the 2nd round pick, this is the better deal! By a long shot. They get rid of Zach Randolph, Malik Rose, Crawford and save $27 million.

Marbury to SAC for Miller and Kenny Thomas.
Marbury to CLE for any combination of Szczerbiak, Wallace, and Snow
Marbury to CHI for Hughes and Gooden.
That’s about it. It saves all the other teams money. CHI and SAC would probably waive him. CLE might use him for the year while saving @20 mil.

that’s better than I thought, but I don’t think any of those three deals make sense for NY. none of those players have any future with NY as we attempt to rebuild almost entirely.
