What to make of the ESPN front-office rankings

If you’re in the habit of discussing the New York Knicks with a friend, family member, coworker or even the occasional stray cat, like sports-centric subset of Godwin’s Law, eventually the conversation will turn to James Dolan. Typically, if casual fans know who a team owner is by name that’s probably not a good sign. Quick, without Googling, who owns the San Antonio Spurs? We can wait. Yeah, I couldn’t pick Peter Holt out of a lineup, either. There are many ways to classify failure in basketball, but by any measure, Dolan checks off all of them. So, when the …continue reading

Game Preview and Thread: Nets @ Knicks

New York Basketball is back! Erm, well, that might be a stretch. Although the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks are both playing well at this point in time. The Nets are a playoff lock, but the Knicks are still on the outside looking in. The Knicks are only one game out of the eight spot, so they really need to win this one. To get a better idea of what to expect out of the reborn Nets I brought in Tom Lorenzo of Nets Daily to preview tonight’s game. Things are going pretty well in Brooklyn in 2014. What’s …continue reading

Game Preview & Thread: Pacers @ Knicks

The New York Knicks host the Indiana Pacers tonight in a game where both teams come into tonight riding a multiple game winning streak. To get a better idea of what the Knicks have in store for them tonight I brought in Tom Lewis of Indy Cornrows to preview tonight’s game. Enjoy! The Pacers won just two of their six games to start this month, but since then have won four straight. Granted, they’ve been against lottery-bound teams, but every win matters as the team tries to lock up the 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. What do you make …continue reading

Game Preview & Thread: Knicks @ Celtics

The New York Knicks have won four in a row and Phil Jackson is probably, definitely, maybe, kinda, coming on board too. To get to five in a row the Knicks will have to win on the road in Boston tonight. To get a better idea of what the Knicks are in for tonight I brought in Tom Westerholm of Celtics Hub and John Karalis of Reds Army. The Boston Celtics have won just three of their last nine games coming into tonight. What has the team struggled with most lately? What are they doing well? Tom: To be honest, …continue reading

Assessing the Potential Phil Jackson Hire

We’ve all been driving down the road at one point or another and stumbled upon a disastrous car wreck and slowed down to quickly investigate the scene and satisfy our metaphorical gators. Phil Jackson is doing the same thing, but rather than merely driving past the scene, he’s purportedly leaning towards getting involved in the disaster that is the New York Knicks. Back when a group of Seattle-based investors, led by billionaire Chris Hansen, were trying to bring the Sacramento Kings to Seattle, Hansen reportedly had a deal with Jackson that he could have any job he wanted within the …continue reading

Game Preview & Thread: Knicks @ Wolves

Don’t look now, but the Knicks are streaking! Granted, it’s a seven game losing streak, but that’s beside the point. The Knicks are trending down while their opponent tonight, the Minnesota Timberwolves, are trending up. To get a better idea of what to expect out of this Wolves team I brought in William Bohl of A Wolf Among Wolves and Zach Harper of CBSSports. Enjoy! The Wolves are back over .500 and have won six of their last seven games coming into tonight’s game. What’s clicked for this team recently? Are they finally becoming the team we thought they’d be …continue reading

Game Preview & Thread: Mavericks at Knicks

The Knicks have lost five of their last six games, so things are pretty dreary at the opponent. To make the postseason the Knicks have to go on a major run to end the season, so perhaps they’ll get back to winning tonight as they host the Dallas Mavericks.(LOL). To get a better idea of what the Knicks are up against tonight I brought in Kirk Henderson of Mavs Outsider and Tim Cato of Mavs Moneyball. Enjoy! The Mavericks come into New York on a two-game winning streak and currently hold the 8th spot in the Western Conference. Do you …continue reading
