A Knicksmas Wish List

A Reprint of My Letter to Santa

Dear Santa:

I haven’t been half-bad this year; good might be a stretch but definitely not bad. Perhaps on my own merits I’ve received far more than I deserve this year already. But Santa, I’m a Knicks fan since 1984. Times have been lean for my beloved Knickerbockers for a long time now–a really long time. I recognize that, although hard times never last forever, times are likely to remain tough around Madison Square Garden for the foreseeable future. So, I have this small wish list. I’m not asking you to change the fate of the franchise. For the most part the Knicks have made their own messes. I am asking for a few things that might really help me struggle through yet another season likely to be filled with lots and lots of losses.

1. Another Point Guard – we just need another guy (preferably on the cheap) to run the show adequately for 12-15 minutes per game, preferably a guy who can keep opposing guards from running right to the front of the rim (umm… not Marbury; that would just be cruel). Oh, and a three point shot would be nice;

2. The Return of Eddy Curry – I recognize it may be too much to ask for him to be in anything resembling basketball shape, but some efficient post scoring would be nice;

3. Value for David Lee – I’m not necessarily for trading Lee. My preference is to wait the market out, but I recognize that a salary cap-motivated trade involving Lee could well be on the horizon. If it is to be, Dear Santa, don’t let the Knicks get screwed. If we’re not going to get back comparable talent for Lee I want a replacement for our lost first rounder.

So that’s my list to the fat man. Is that really too much to ask? I mean, I didn’t even ask for LeBron. What’s on your list?

    1. a top 3 pick in the draft, resulting in Thabeet or a stud PG.
    2. the collapse of Cablevision, resulting in the forced sale of the team to Jay-Z (after he divested himself of his Nets stake).
    3. LeBron and one other big name (Wade/Bosh/Amare/Joe Johnson, in that order) in the summer of 2010.
    4. a way to keep Lee and Nate on the team through all of this.

    is that too greedy? :)

    I am just pleased that that unprofessional and biased pick by Hollinger regarding the Lakers/Celtics game turned out to be correct.

    I wonder how many Celtic fans will be bugging him about how bad of a call that was next chat he has?

    I want David Lee to stick around – that would be neat-o.

    Merry Christmas, everyone!

    I think it’s safe to say none of us has been THAT good ;)

    My Santa List:

    1. Frank Williams comes back to New York provides some tough defense, three point shooting, and punks the Nets one more time.

    2. The Knicks sign a rebounding/shot blocking center from the NBDL that turns into a decent NBA player.

    3. Balkman makes the rotation in Denver. It’d be nice if one KnickerBlogger underdog turns into a decent NBA player.

    I guess I have to wait to ask for Lebron and such til Xmas of ’09, but for now:

    1. A “tough guy”. I don’t care if it’s through a trade or from the NBDL, but we need a Kendrick Perkins on this team- someone who will charge a stiff fine for entering the lane a la Charles Oakley.

    2. Back up pg and/or pg prospect as insurance for Duhon who I give an A- thus far for his performance.

    3. Top 3 lottery pick would be nice, but I’d settle for an informed pick at wherever we land. Ford’s mock (yes it’s out already) has us taking Jennings if we keep the spot we have now. I’d prefer Derozan, but I think we need a good 2 guard and there are many out there this year with upside.

    4. This one’s big… would love Santa do dismantle the Celtics as fast as they were assembled. I f’n hate the Celtics!

    1. Stephon Marbury leaves town for good and takes Berman with him.

    2. Wilson Chandler becomes more selective with his shots and learns how to finish around the basket better.

    3. Eddy Curry enjoys playing basketball long enough for the Knicks to trade him for something they need.

    4. Gallinari makes a full recovery and turns out to have been a good pick.

    I just saw eddy curry at the paramus park mall in new jersey at around 3pm. what the hell is he doing shopping at 3pm, when he got a game at 7:30pm. yeah, he is not playing but as a knick fan i found it disrespectful that he was not somewhere watching some tape, studying plays, or on a bike working out. i hope he did not go to the food court. i screamed at him from like 20 feet away, eddy we need to get to the play offs man, and he just nodded and said yeah..

    After reading some more of Berman today, I want him out of town even faster than Marbury. I’m not sure how a person can cover a team and actually hope the team does poorly. He’s like the basketball anti_Christ.

    This guy has actually been rooting for the Knicks to do poorly, Gallinari to be a bust, and every move Walsh and D’Antoni makes to be a failure so he could trash them and advance his love affair with Steph. You can tell by the almost gloating tone of his articles whenever things are going badly.

    At this point it’s impossible for me to read anything he writes without wanting to strangle him.
