2013 Game Thread: Knicks @ Warriors

March 11th, 2013 by | Comments | Permalink |

The Knicks will get a chance to go two for two against Steph Curry and the Warriors tonight in Oakland, only this time around they’ll apparently have Carmelo Anthony back in uniform (the Warriors will also have David Lee back).

Curry went off on the Knicks last time around, and you better believe that the Knick backcourt will bend over backwards to keep that from happening again tonight.

Glad to see Melo back. Hopefully he’s healthy! A tough 5-game road trip begins tonight, let’s hope that the Knicks go 3-2 on the trip.

Let’s go Knicks!

Huge game tonight, get this one and we really only have to win one of the next four to make it a decent trip

3-2 is very attainable if melo is healthy. Hope he plays tonight.

I expect knicks defense to set the tone early on. If thy get stingy like they did in utah we might get 3 games on this trip.

Looks like its a go for melo. For once I hope the basketball gods smile on us, and he stays healthy for the rest of the year.

Should be a good game. If we put an emphasis on D, we’ll be ok.

Holy crap, not only is NBALP showing both broadcasts, the MSG broadcast is the one in HD!! This is stunning, NBALP hardly ever shows MSG broadcasts even when they are the home team. So not only do we get the MSG broadcast but in HD as well is beyond shocking.

which games are people generally conceding if we go 3-2, @den and @lac? I think the denver game very winnable. The guys seem to already be revving up for that one from the interviews i have seen. I suppose @por could be tough

Knicks have always had a problem with perimeter defense and getting over screens. But not to worry, that shouldn’t be a problem against the Warriors.

… why is our 3pt defense terrible? You’d think we’d know how to defend it considering how often we see it used against us effectively.

Idk how he expects him to develop with such a small sample size of minutes.

I think his reasoning is B.s., he probably just doesn’t want to play the “Rookie”

I’d be shocked if we don’t get blown out of the building tonight

  34. 34
    BigBlueAL says:

I was cautiously optimistic heading into this road trip, now Im dreading the rest of this trip. They look awful tonight, just awful. Problem is this is supposed to be one of the easier games on this trip. Also Melo looks horrible tonight, looks like he shouldnt be playing. Hopefully he is just stiff and his knee loosens up in the 2nd half but if not he really shouldnt be playing if he is going to look like this.

  35. 35
    mr.JayP says:

    This offense is just sickening.

  36. 36
    Will the Thrill says:

This is awful. Carmelo still looks injured, or just very, very slow.

  37. 37
    johnlocke says:

Carmelo cannot guard David Lee and he’s off on the offensive end. Too much doubling. Play Melo at the 3 and stop doubling. Put Kenyon on David Lee. Felton, Shump, Melo, Kenyon, Chandler to start the 2nd half

  38. 38
    sidestep says:

Curry is a weakling, and poor defender. Knicks should make him work by running 1-5 PnRs on him.

  40. 40
    johnlocke says:

Lucky to only be down 15.
    Everyone’s cold.
Melo has been a net negative so far.
If Woody doesn’t make an adjustment with Melo on Lee to start the 2nd half, I’ll be really disappointed in his coaching

  41. 41
    sidestep says:

That last play where Felton got into the paint was indeed a PnR against Curry.

  42. 42
    llcoolbp says:

I’m just getting sick of the 2 point guard/3 guards lineup. Especially when it’s j Kidd, shump and white. None of those guys can shoot. Thrown in a cold melo and it negates his advantage at PF. This team has basically been .500 for the past 3 months. It’s time to go back to a conventional lineup. You can still have JR coming off the bench for scoring purposes. Woodson needs to adjust. Enough is enough.

  43. 43
    AnonymousODG says:

Not the first time we’ve been down by 15-20 at the half. It’s down to playing tight defense and crashing the boards in the second half.

The maddening thing is, that’s what it comes down to in the first half also! Why do the always insist on coming out like limp-d1cked cunts to start the game? The more it happens the more pathetic it becomes. It’s just not even basketball.

  44. 44
    llcoolbp says:

I meant especially when it’s 2 out of the 3 of J Kidd shump and white to start the game with Felton.

  47. 47
    llcoolbp says:

If its not Tyson, Kmart, melo, shump, and Felton at the start of the second half, then Woodson needs to be fired after this game. The guy is a moron.

  48. 48
    JC Knickfan says:

I’m starting hate Woodson also. This is sad.

  49. 49
    llcoolbp says:

It’s already established that the heavy minutes and having to bang with pf’s every game is taking its toll on melo. So in his first game back he has to guard and bang with David lee, who you know is relishing sticking it to the Knicks. It’s just bad coaching. Put a bruiser like Kmart up front. Protect melo. Let him punish smaller players. It’s not rocket science.

  50. 50
    lavor postell says:

Yeah Woodson is coaching like a fucking dumb shit. Why is Thomas getting minutes over Camby. Also I’m just going to come out and say that Tyson Chandler’s defensive reputation this year is a complete and utter farce. Notice how the only time we looked capable of stopping Golden State is when Martin was on the floor. Honestly it might sound stupid, but Kenyon’s constant talking on the defensive end is huge and is something that really impressed me about Chandler last year. I don’t think he’s been nearly as vocal when orchestrating the defense this season.

  51. 51
    maxwell_3g says:

not a huge melo fan, but you have to give it to him that he hits the offensive glass

I think there’s a very real possibility we can go 0-5 on this road trip. Ugh.

  57. 57
    llcoolbp says:

Melo needs to sit. This game is over.

  58. 58
    lavor postell says:

This is seriously pathetic. Why does this team have zero sense of urgency in what is the make or break point of the season? Is there a reason why we’ve barely run any high pNr with Chandler? Outside of Kidd, Martin and Shumpert the rest of the guys might as well have just flown from New York to Denver and bypassed the trip to Oakland.

  59. 59
    mr.JayP says:

C’mon son. U gotta be shitting me.

  60. 60

  71. 71

They will be motivated to embarrass the Knicks and are more than capable of doing so playing in Denver. Only positive about this ass-whooping is it should at the least have the Knicks determined to play alot better on Wed.

But if this is the way Melo is going to look on Wed health-wise he should seriously think about sitting not just that game but the rest of the trip if necessary.

  77. 77

My only problem is how many ass whoopings do we need in order to play with heart consistently ?

Idk I just don’t like the personality and demeanor of this squad. Curry lit us up and single handily got a hair away from stealing one. You would think we would be up for this game.

And I keep saying, Woodson is not the coach that can get us out of the 2nd round. Let alone an ECF win.

  83. 83
    johnlocke says:

it’s clear to anyone with two eyes he has no lift and his dragging his body around the court. the game is over, no reason to have him in there. Woody hopefully pulled him for good.

Is copeland making these errors because he’s anxious and trying to do too much ? Or because his game is fundementally flawed ?

I think he’s just anxious. And with real game time he can become a way better bench player then Kurt or White combined.

15 points an 6 rebs in 16 minutes. yeah, hes just been awful

  103. 103
    Brian Cronin says:

Yeah, one area I really can’t give Woody too much shit over is his not playing Copeland. Copeland has some skills, but A. he can’t defend at all and B. when he is given extended minutes he tends to fall apart offensively because he tries to do too much and B. he can’t do anything against good defenses. Novak also tends to get shut down by good defenses, but it tends to be because they make a point of shutting him down. They at least respect him enough to specifically exert effort to shut him down and there is some benefit there. Plus, Novak at least does have some success against good teams (and definitely plays well against bad teams).

Literally all of Copeland’s best games have come in blowouts (one of them was a blowout that was almost turned into a Knick win against Sacto).

Anybody trying to make a case for Copeland’s performance right now is just mad at themselves. I won’t even bother dignifying this with a response. His minutes speak for themselves.

White and Thomas got ignored, even with their good start against the Jazz where they helped set the pace (which nobody seems to remember happened).

dude, they lost the sactown game on a buzzer beater. he sparked the comeback. how was that a “blowout”. also, if the coach only puts you in during blowouts, chances are that your best games will come in blowouts

They were down 25. That’s a blowout. As I noted, that was a blowout that he helped turn into a close game, though.

His play in the blowouts certainly dictated him getting more burn in non-blowouts and Woody gave him some and he was terrible in them. He’s clearly talented enough to stick around on the roster but he does not appear ready to contribute on a regular basis.

I’m flabbergasted White and Thomas are mentioned in the same breath as Copeland. Neither White nor Thomas look like complete a$$clowns on defense when they’re out there. And their shooting isn’t exactly that much worse than a lot of our guys, especially with team performances like tonight.

I expect a Thomas/White mid-range jumper to go down with as much reliability as I do a Kidd/Prig 3 pt’er these days. Come to me and tell me you think different and I will laugh in your face. Frankly, I’m detecting an undercurrent of misplaced resentment over Thomas and White taking STAT’s and JR’s roles in the starting lineup. But it’s both unnecessary and moot at this point.

Have to admit we’re grasping at straws with the hope of Cope contributing. He did have 15 points and 6 boards in 19 minutes… along with 5 fouls and 4 turnovers, and is habitually hopelessly lost on defense. I have a soft spot for the guy, given he obviously worked his ass off to get to the NBA, but he does not seem ready to really contribute. There’s no miracle coming from our bench this year guys…

While I agree that we are grabbing at straws at this point arguing about cope/white/Kurt.

But by just looking at their stats cope is scoring more while shooting under .500 from the field in this season

Can anyone dig up some stats that would suggest white n Kurt are better alternatives ?

White and Thomas are capable defenders. Copeland is an awful defender. When it comes to back-of-the-rotation guys, I think defense is more important than offensive efficiency. Of the three, though, Copeland is the only one I could see developing into a rotation-level guy.

And that’s my point. He CAN develop into a decent rotational player. His pro’s out weigh his con’s and at this point it’s clear we need help offensively, especially on the 2nd unit without stat.

I just don’t see the development coming this season, though. Next year, hopefully, but he’s just not ready yet.

so your solution is to cling to the hope of kurt and white, because they have a better chance kf getting us to a title this year??? this just in, if white and kurt are playing minutes of any significance, it aint happening. we might as well hope copeland gets time and improves before the playoffs
