last time a Knicks team lost 4 in a row by 15 or more was 1962. last time before today, that is.

So are will still questioning whether Copeland should EVER play in the rotation?

That was terrific D by Shump just better offense by CP3

Credit to Felton. He has been shooting well from 3 this season.

I guess bad jr is in effect… 2 forced fadeaways , 1 double teamed right off the bench. I hate bad jr more then I like good jr

    Man is JR stupid.

Nice assist from JR to Jordan on that dunk.

As Karl Malone would say, he’s a Heckle and Jeckle kind of player.

Yes, but good JR Smith is a top 20 player. That’s why the Knicks have him on a a very team friendly contract.

Remember, the good news is that there is nothing that JR Smith can’t do on a basketball court. The bad news is that there is nothing that JR Smith won’t do on a basketball court.

    ephus says:

Can the Knicks please isolate Jamal Crawford in the post. Since we know that Crawford is allergic to tough-nosed defense, let’s try to force VDN to take him off the court.

Is cope and on a minuets limit?

I’d be glad to hear that if this was 2003.

  26. 26
    ephus says:

Thomas B.: I’d be glad to hear that if this was 2003.

JVG and Breen were singing praises of what Thomas still does well (sets screens, plays position and team defense), thought someone should point out what has slipped in his game.

I’m watching this game for the same reason as I go to Seders. Even if the belief is not there, the pull of ritual is too strong to ignore.

  27. 27
    ephus says:

Smith had no chance of getting to the rim because the Clippers just ignored Felton on the perimeter. Lane was totally clogged. Could have been a defensive 3 second call.

  28. 28
    Will the Thrill says:

I would rather see Smith launch a three over someone than try to watch him try to beat him one on one

  29. 29
    Juany8 says:

Crazy thing with Miami winning 22 in a row… before they started the massive streak, the Knicks were closer to them than they were to the third seed. Sucks how everything fell apart.

  30. 30
    Will the Thrill says:

I remember when people were saying Miami was actually flawed, and that effort wasn’t the major factor holding them back, haha!

  31. 31
    Will the Thrill says:

Shumpert has to be more aggressive on offense, especially with Melo, Amar’e and Chandler out. Take Billups off the dribble!

  32. 32
    ephus says:

Put in Novak and see if he can make it rain. Put in Prigs and see if he can break down the D. Felton can’t get to the rim against Clips’ length. Weep bitterly.

This is no longer a great time to be a Knick fan. No Melo, No TC, No STAT, No Chance.

  33. 33

Is Dave Hopla still with the Knicks?

Jon – You were totally wrong. We lost by 13.

And now back to back in Utah…..

But hey, we could still back into a 2 seed, that’s how bad the EC is this year….

  39. 39
    Brian Cronin says:

The thing about Cope is that we all want to see guys who do well in garbage minutes get more time. That’s how Linsanity happened, after all. However, sometimes these guys actually just turn out to be only good in garbage time players. I think that’s what has happened here. Cope was well worth getting a bigger look. He just hasn’t done well with said bigger look.

  40. 40
    jon abbey says:

Thomas B.: The jon abbey sports bureau comes through yet again.

haha, you are not only giving me shit but waiting until extensive garbage time plays out to do it? as if the Clippers couldn’t have won by 40 if they’d wanted, hilarious.

  41. 41
    knicknyk says:

Copes D is poor his rebounding is poor & his shot selection at times can be JResque. Cope is a 28 year old rookie.

  42. 42
    knicknyk says:

Ray had a decent game credit to him. After me bashing him for the last week now. He still had to take 15 shots to get 16 points as usual & still is in love with take long 2′s. But he dished out 9 assists. Hopefully he keeps this going.

perfect example of why box scores are so often misleading: 3-11 before NY was down by 17 with 6 minutes left, 4-4 after that.

ah, cool, I thought we’d been getting along better recently. it wasn’t great research, the Post wrote about it after the last game and again today:

“The Knicks haven’t lost four straight games by 15 or more points since 1962. Even the Team Titanic squads of the Isiah Thomas Era avoided that distinction.”

Brooklyn has 3 divisional games left. Philly, Boston, and Toronto. If they 2 of three they win the division if we end up tied because they will have a better divisional record. So we’d be looking at a 5 or 6 seed. Which is really funny considering we should have had a 2.

Im sensing most people here just assume the Knicks are going to totally collapse because they are losing games out west with their best players hurt then not playing at all.

Ill keep saying it until Im blue in the face, the East outside of Miami are just as flawed if not more flawed than the Knicks. There is a reason even after their mediocre play the past couple of months the Knicks still are very much alive for the 2 seed. If Melo and Chandler are back starting Wed and remain healthy the rest of the season they will finish no worse than the 3 seed and thanks to Indiana losing a bit more frequently lately the Knicks can very easily still finish as the 2 seed. At the very worst the Knicks will still have homecourt in the 1st round and will make it to the 2nd round.

  54. 54
    BigBlueAL says:

The Knicks havent played well in a while yet had won 6 of 8 before this road trip (the 2 losses vs the Heat and Thunder), remember that.

If Melo were healthy and returning from bereavement leave and Chandler was showing his DPOY form from last year, I would be optimistic. Believe me, after three decades of suffering and introducing my daughter to Knicks fandom, I want to be optimistic. But Melo is hurt. He may be able to hobble through the rest of the season, but there is something wrong with that knee that is causing the fluid build-up. Chandler has only been able to play hard defense in spurts this year.

I will be pleasantly surprised if the Knicks end up with 46 wins (or more) this season. I said before the year that par was winning a first round playoff series. I think we are looking at a bogey. Nobody would be happier to be wrong.

  57. 57
    BigBlueAL says:

Of course if Melo returns looking like crap because of his knee then they are screwed w/o a doubt. But for me I am going to wait and see how they play when they return home starting Wed. I am not going to be depressed and think the season is over because they go 0-5 on this brutal road trip especially since most of the trip they will wind up playing w/o both Melo and Chandler.

Like I said they had won 6 of 8 before this trip and those losses were close home ones to the Heat and Thunder. Granted they had Amar’e for the first 5 of those wins and losing him hurts but Ive seen enough of the crappy East that Im not ready to say all the teams chasing the Knicks are better than them just because the Knicks suck now.

  58. 58
    domiknick says:

Tough loss. Knicks hung is as much as they could. I was at the game at Staples Center. Lots of Knicks fans there, which was nice to see. Also, I’m at Roscoe’s right now & Jamal Crawford is here. So there’s that…

The current standings. Also I dont enjoy being miserable and hating my favorite team so there is that as well lol. I know its easy to think the season is over now and the next 2 years we are screwed, life sucks as a Knicks fan etc. But Im still cautiously optimistic they right the ship before the playoffs and finish as a 2/3 seed.

  60. 60
    knicknyk says:

jon abbey: perfect example of why box scores are so often misleading: 3-11 before NY was down by 17 with 6 minutes left, 4-4 after that.

I don’t think I’m optimistic or pessimistic, I think I’m just realistic. I think the most likely scenario is that we lose the division. We were playing poorly before the Melo and Chandler injuries. We’ve been a .500 team since following the first 22 games. .500 teams barely make the playoffs and almost never do anything of note in the playoffs. So I’m looking at this based on what we are: an old, slow team with bad point guards, poor rebounders, a coach who lacks creativity, no inside game, and questionable defense. How far do you think a team like that will go? I wish we were a 55 win team, but the truth is we are not. And the sooner we accept the truth the sooner we can put our expectations where they belong.

  62. 62
    Brian Cronin says:

I agree that they’re unlikely to fall past having home court, but honestly, as I’ve said a few times now, I’m fine with them falling as far as the #6 seed even if it means getting Melo and Chandler healthy. This particular team’s chances in the playoffs hinge, as they always have hinged, on being healthy for the playoffs. Well, that and “what round do they lose to Miami?” In that regard, the #6 seed might even be better than the #4/5 seed since they won’t lose to Miami in the second round! I mean, on the “road” against Brooklyn in the first round as the #6 seed? That’s extremely winnable.

So sure, due to the injuries, they could drop in the standings, but I am more concerned about Melo and Chandler’s overall health.

Speaking of Chandler, this better not be some BS thing where they’re hiding a more significant injury. Like Teix’s injury just happening to me more serious than the Yankees first let on.

The beat writers were saying today the Knicks said Chandler’s knee is fine, he missed the game because of a stiff neck apparently.

Yeah, I wonder if they’re saving Melo and Chandler for tomorrow to try and salvage the last game of the trip.

I’m not too worried about Boston, they have a lot of road games left and they’ve sucked on the road all season

Yeah, #3-7 in the East all “suck,” so you know I agree that the odds are that the Knicks will stick around the #3 seed.

This is what I think is happening especially given that Melo travelled back to LA after the knee got drained. Why have him come back today and then go out tomorrow before another game on Wednesday? Makes more sense to go for the easier win, in theory, tomorrow night in Utah with Melo and/or Chandler hopefully coming back fresh, rather than gutting it through the second night of a back to back.

    BigBlueAL says:

Nets start an 8 game road trip tomorrow, only have 5 home games left while the Knicks have 9 left at home.
