JR should be getting out of bed just about now.

Cannot afford a let down today, need to win every winnable game from here on out to get out of this massive hole we created.

    TH2!

  2. maxwell_3g

I must admit, I am quite excited about the small lineup. if th2 comes out blazing, there is NO reason to force amare in for his obligatory 20 minutes just because

  3. Frank O.

I actually want to see more Melo/Amare pairings using the PnR.
That combo was pretty devastating when the run it.
With Running PnR, because he is such a scoring threat, it makes Amare devastating. Both are decent for the FT line too.
The more they run that play, the more you will see both thrive.
And in the end, Amare is still a freak, and one of the best finishers in the game off the PnR.

  4. Frank O.

And it is no coincidence that with Melo taking fewer shots and creating opportunities for his teammates the team as a whole is playing much better. Everyone is involved.
I hope this new Melo takes.

  5. Kahnzy

“Hey guys, you know how we just won back-to-back games by playing as a team and moving the ball? Yeah, fuck that shit.”

  6. BigBlueAL

The Celtics arent doubling Melo, they are covering him one-on-one with Bass who Melo cant postup. Therefore there goes the ball movement and open shooters.

  7. Zanzibar

PnR is the answer in this situation featuring Melo as the ball handler. Spread lineup allows Melo to PnR with any of his teammates.

  8. BigBlueAL

Brad Stevens has faced better coached/prepared teams in the Horizon league than he is facing today.

  9. Nick C.

Usually Bargs carries much of the scoring early, but his take a dribble to get an equally contested shot two feet closer is resulting in clangs.

  10. Donnie Walsh

At the end of last season, I felt we missed an opportunity to thread the needle in the EC. But now it’s looking like this season might provide an even greater opportunity

Do you still think this, Zanzibar, a mere two hours after writing it?

  11. MarcusRinaldi

Knicks win back-to-back, get really excited and have binger’s Friday and Saturday night… Bargnani is playing pretty hungover

  12. MarcusRinaldi

It’s like we have two games we win because we play really hard, and the Knicks think they can just take it easy and fly by again like last year. Sorry guys, but when you lose 9 games in a row you dig yourself a hole that requires you to play hard for 48 minutes each and every night

  13. Donnie Walsh

Well, the NBA doesn’t seem to know that this game is being played (nba.com isn’t posting scores, and espn has a score but isn’t keeping data on it) so there’s maybe there’s hope for a mulligan!

  14. MarcusRinaldi

the stat post up 12 from the hoop is such a lost cause. it will either be stolen or blocked

Couldn’t agree more.. I feel like he’s barely made any of these shots this year.

  15. Zanzibar

Do you still think this, Zanzibar, a mere two hours after writing it?

Yes – but remember I also added in that post that are greatest obstacle would be coaching. I’ve written about this before on how to attack in spread offense:

    Melo
    - against slow 4s, ISO starting at perimeter
    - against most 3s, post-up
    - against stout man-defender PnR or PnP, melo as ball handler or use Melo as roll man and JR as ball handler

  16. massive

I know everyone thinks Bargs is the biggest waste of minutes, but I personally believe Amar’e and JR are the worst players on the team. They don’t fit into the system. Everyone else makes the right pass but these two. And Amar’e is a fucking hypocrite because he’s going to tell everyone about how bad the ball movement is when he never passes the ball himself. These two guys, man. They’re ruining any momentum the Knicks are trying to build.

  17. MarcusRinaldi

Yeah those comments about the “Knicks” needing better ball movement by Amare a few games ago really annoyed me. Amare is one of the worst on the team with ball movement. Once he gets it in a post up position, you know it’s not coming back out

  18. massive

Melo just yelled at Amar’e for being a terrible defender. I love it. If Mike Woodson doesn’t hold people accountable, let Melo do it.

  19. massive

Anyone else realize how much Clyde doesn’t like what Breen has to say?

    “What a great play!” -Breen
“What terrible defense! The only thing the guy can do is tip it and you let him post up right under the basket!” – Clyde

  20. Owen

“Anyone else realize how much Clyde doesn’t like what Breen has to say?”

I think they are both similarly disgusted with the state of the Knicks….

  21. Owen

The tip was lucky but as they pointed out, that was literally the only play available to them. And Bargnani was asleep.

  22. MarcusRinaldi

Thank God Bargnani is out… Man oh man is he playing bad today.. just wow I can’t even get into how bad on both ends of the floor he has been today. If i had to guess I’d say he’s -18 today.. At least.. Espn stats still not working

  23. maxwell_3g

amare and JR are awful. but any conversation about our worst players who get minutes has to include felton as well

  24. Kahnzy

Looking at another 30 point blowout, only the wrong end of one this time. Well, that was a nice streak while it lasted.

  25. knickster

The Knicks are playing the exact same way you’d expect a bad team to play. The question is how long will the front office wait before acknowledging the need for a complete rebuild?

  26. Frank O.

It should be no mystery: when Felton is shit, this team is horrible.
This is a point guard driven team. Without him running things well, and with Prigs getting limited minutes, this team is horrible.
Felton isn’t playing PnR ball with Stat and when he is he is taking the shot because the Celtics are forcing him to beat them rather than a higher percentage Stat shot. If Felton can’t shoot, and today he is WAY off, the rest of the team suffers.
Meanwhile, Melo and Stat seem to have forgotten each other.

But again, this team is the worst in matinees. NYC matinees should be banned. No NY team is going to be treat in matinees…
I think I’ll read a NYT feature on … Some dude named Silverman.

  27. BigBlueAL

Yes Woodson, the solution is starting the Melo/Amare/Bargs froncourt to start the 2nd half. LMAO the man has no freaking clue.

  28. maxwell_3g

agreed al. it was so predictable. meanwhile, I think we can only assume that Cole banged Mrs. Woodson at a team party.

  29. Kahnzy

There is only one thing I truly do not understand. Why is this team not getting booed off of the court yet? I shouldn’t be able to hear Breen or Clyde over the boos.

  30. coyle022

Turned on the game expecting to watch a Knicks game. Saw Amare Bargs Melo in the frontcourt. thought it was a re run but judging by this board it is indeed a real , live game

  31. d-mar

It’s ok, we’re getting blown out by a team that was supposed to be playing for ping pong balls, nothing to be concerned about

  32. Frank O.

To turn out flat against a rival, a team ahead of you in the division, a team also with a losing record, is unacceptable.

  33. maxwell_3g

I find Jordan Crawford enjoyable to watch. I love players who are convinced that they are good despite what everyone else says. irrationally confidant players can be dangerous. that’s why I always like nate

  34. Donnie Walsh

There is only one thing I truly do not understand. Why is this team not getting booed off of the court yet? I shouldn’t be able to hear Breen or Clyde over the boos.

The Sunday matinee crowd is also off its game?

  35. d-mar

I just feel bad for anyone who shelled out big bucks to watch this shit show, the NBA should initiate a refund policy if the home team loses by more than 30 points.

  36. hoolahoop

Actually starting to enjoy Boston’s lead getting bigger and bigger, but just found the OFF button.

  37. Frank O.

One good thing: Crawford makes Rondo trade able.
Maybe the Knicks could get Rondo and get rid of Felton…

  38. maxwell_3g

I know this will sound biased, and I am biased but……despite the fact that he played like crap, I thought shump actually tried on the defensive end tonight. his offense was awful and he shot 2 airballs, but I thought he was bringing effort. He was the only one, except for Metta

  39. maxwell_3g

I love how metta is always consoling his teammates. when metta is in charge of comforting others…..

  40. maxwell_3g

by the way guys, this Wallace guy, who hardly pays, is the guy that some of you want to acquire is a stat trade, despite the fact that Wallace’s contract extends even further into the future. a hint. if a team with a clue is willing to take amare’s contract, run the other way, because the tradeis just ging to make things worse

  41. MarcusRinaldi

4th quarter lineup should be Udrih Murry Hardway World Peace and Aldrich. Let them lose, bet they’ll show some heart at least and play hard together

  42. mokers

4th quarter lineup should be Udrih Murry Hardway World Peace and Aldrich. Let them lose, bet they’ll show some heart at least and play hard together

Should have started them the second half.

  43. Kahnzy

Anyone know if a near 40pt blowout has ever been followed by a 40pt loss? We beat Orlando by 38, and could lose to the Celtics by 50. I’m not even angry, I’m laughing. I’m just not sure if it’s hysteria or not.

  44. njasdjdh

RT @JADubin5: Pablo had a +/- of 0 in 17 minutes by the end of the 3Q. Knicks were -36 in the other 19 minutes.

  45. MarcusRinaldi

Melo -40 Bargnani -33 Felton -38 Shumpert -32 Metta +4 Pablo 0………. That -40 has to be a career low for Melo

  46. massive

The worst part of all of this? Frank Isola gets to tweet really stupid and annoying things today.

  47. flossy

Fun fact: Melo’s -40 for this game (assuming he doesn’t come back in) is the worst of his career

  48. flossy

Melo -40 Bargnani -33 Felton -38 Shumpert -32 Metta +4 Pablo 0………. That -40 has to be a career low for Melo

Hah, yup, was wondering this myself so I checked. His previous low was -38 back in ’06 I think

  49. MarcusRinaldi

Hah, yup, was wondering this myself so I checked. His previous low was -38 back in ’06 I think

Gotta be one of the worst of all time? For anyone?

  50. d-mar

I wish that “good effort, good job” kid could be in the stands when the Knicks walk into the locker room.

  51. Kahnzy

Well, at least there are likely to be better games on League Pass later. Ind/OKC should be good, especially aftre Indiana kicked the Spurs ass last night.

  52. bobyank7

The Knicks are a disgrace. They don’t know what team basketball is all about. They need a lesson in passing and finding the open man. Aside from that, they need to get rid of those hideous Orange uniforms. Check their record when wearing them. I don’t think they’ve won even one game. Today is a good case in point. When is spring training?

  53. JK47

Whoah, Robert Silverman is writing an adaptation of “The Pale King?” That is the most awesome thing I’ve heard since I learned the firejoemorgan guy owns the film rights to “Infinite Jest.”

“The Pale King” is a beautiful book– best of luck with the adaptation.

  54. Alecto

I’d rather have a plastic deck chair coaching this team. At least it couldn’t actively mess up minutes allocation the way this ignoramus does.

  55. BigBlueAL

Im sorry but there is no reason whatsoever for Woodson not to get fired within the next hour. Someone needs to be held accountable for the start to this season even if it isnt all Woodson’s fault.

Looking for a scapegoat just for the sake of having a scapegoat isn’t going to help any. Woodson sucks, don’t get me wrong, but there’s only so much a coach can do (right or wrong). When a team loses at home by 41, that’s on the players. These are highly paid professional athletes that can’t get interested enough to compete on a Sunday afternoon. You wanna fire someone, let’s start with the players. Seriously. Just shut the team down and let the league go on with 29 for the rest of the year.

  57. JK47

The Knicks are boring, bad and irrelevant. Wake me up when none of these guys are on the roster anymore.

My 14yo son had a last minute invite to this game, he should have stayed in bed!

Fathers don’t let your sons grow up to be Knick fans!!

  59. The Honorable Cock Jowles

I loved The Pale King. Opening vignette among the most beautiful passages I’ve read from any period.

    Also, the Knicks suck.

Woodson is still a problem, and if we’re committed to getting rid of as many problems as realistically possible (realistic being the operative word here), we should start there. His lineups and minutes allocations are inexcusable, regardless of the quality of play coming from our players.

Ex. “Lineups with Melo-Amar’e-Bargnani had shot 35.7% and been outscored by 44.6 pts/100 in 48 minutes coming in.”

  61. JK47

Everywhere I go, I hear everybody say

‘What you gonna do to make that team play’

From the folks in the street at 34th and 6th

Everyone who calls says, ‘Hey man, fix the Knicks’

    (Chorus)

Fix the Knicks and make them shine

Get ‘em to win like it’s ’69 (not exact)

Hitting all their free throws and no more shooting bricks

Time to get it right and fix the Knicks

Doing my best and that’s my problem

I check with my friend called Isiah Thomas (crowd groans)

Pay no mind to those nasty critics

They haven’t done a thing to fix the Knicks

    (Chrous)

Fix the Knicks and make them shout

Get on and win like it’s ’69 (not exact)

Hit all their free throws and don’t want to shoot bricks

Time to let it ride and fix the Knicks

We know we’re getting better, but still no respect

We score a lot of points, but where’s the defense?

Everyone’s an expert saying ‘Trade your draft picks’

You got to get ‘this guy’ to fix the Knicks

    (Chorus, X2)

Fix the Knicks and make them shout

Get on and win like it’s ’69 (not exact)

Hit all their free throws and don’t want to shoot bricks

Time to let it ride and fix the Knicks
    ?

  62. Hubert

Woodson just needs time. He’ll make all the right moves.

Maybe he’ll go with an all big lineup next time.

  63. Zanzibar

The really sad part is only reason CAA has so much influence is that they let Dolan’s band open for some of their clients like Aretha. No one would ever pay to watch his band otherwise. The only way all of this changes is if Nets are good and the Knicks are bad and fans tune in to Nets games instead of Knicks. But if all that isn’t depressing enough, Dolan has a son who plays in his band.

  64. coyle022

Maybe he’ll go with an all big lineup next time.

still waiting for him to roll out Martin-Stat-Bargs-Metta-Melo

  65. d-mar

MSG post game guys going way overboard on the Celtics, yes, they are overachieving to some extent, but any team in the NBA, including the Bucks and the Jazz, would have kicked our asses today.

Boston will probably win 33-35 games this season and fuck up their chances to get Wiggins or Parker.

  66. BigBlueAL

Stu Jackson got fired after a 7-8 start. Don Nelson after a 34-25 start. Lenny Wilkens after a 17-22 start. None of those teams looked anywhere near as embarrassing as these Knicks have looked so far this season.

  67. BigBlueAL

Holy crap, some of these player quotes being tweeted by Chris Herring are embarrassing. Shump saying a couple of shits they normally make didnt fall and if they did it wouldve been alot different. Felton saying it wasnt bad effort just the Celtics hitting alot of crazy shots and that today’s loss doesnt negate the previous 2 games. Holy shit this team is freaking delusional right now.

  68. coyle022

yeah another one from woodson, regarding the blowout. “we haven’t had alot of game like this”

well I remember a blowout to the Spurs, Wolves, 20 pt loss to hawks at home, and a lifeless effort against the Wizards so he must be watching different games

  69. JK47

Shump saying a couple of shots they normally make didnt fall and if they did it wouldve been alot different.

    LOL@ “couple of shits.”

But yeah, a couple of twenty shots go in, the Knicks are right in this one.

  70. Hubert

Kahnzy, firing Woodson is not scapegoating. It’s problem solving.

He can’t coach. He doesn’t fix things. He just plays the same guys and hopes they play better. That’s all he’s got.

And he is horribly uninformed. I bet he is the least informed coach in the entire NBA. I feel like every single coach who goes up against us is better prepared than that assclown.
