2013-14 Game Thread: Knicks @ Lakers

The Lakers are playing without Pau Gasol and they have a lineup filled with back-ups, so the Knicks really, really need to win this game to start their crucial West Coast swing.

Let’s go Knicks!

who is on Jimmer alert tonight? Meeks already has a 42 point night….he cant beat that. I would say Ryan Kelly, but he doesnt play guard. could wesley Johnson catch fire? is that possible? Kendall Marshall doesnt shoot. is farmar still playing? if he is, im going with Farmar

  2. BigBlueAL

TNT still showing Thunder vs Mavs since they are in OT. I should probably hope for a few more OT’s lol.

  3. BigBlueAL

Cant watch the game yet but judging from the box score looks like Melo is continuing his awful play from the 4th quarter the other night.

  4. BigBlueAL

Just following the score still, how the hell does an 8 pt lead at the end of the quarter get trimmed to 1 pt in less than 2 mins???

  5. lavor postell

The Knicks have 26 points in 17 minutes against a team that’s committed to giving up 110 a game.

  6. johnlocke

Felton arguing call while his guy drives right by him for a layup … Really hard rooting for ppl who won’t help themselves

  7. BigBlueAL

Phil Jackson might quit before this season is over if he continues to watch this team play.

  8. JK47

I turn the TV on, and the first play I see is Kent Bazemore dribble in a straight line to the basket from about 35 feet away and lay the ball in, completely unimpeded by Felton and Chandler. Then I noticed the Knicks were down by 13.

  9. Jack Bauer

Did anyone tell Woodson they really need to win this game to keep their slim playoff hopes alive? Ridiculous – this team sucks and does not deserve to make the playoffs. This will put a stop to all that fantasizing.

  10. JK47

The Lakers suck pretty bad too. You can’t count them out. This is like a contest to see who sucks the least. It could go down to the wire.

  11. Will the Thrill

It is a shame Shumpert sucks at everything on offense because he’s really the only one that can defend anyone. I think Shump’s D has been better than Chandler’s this year.

  12. BigBlueAL

Shump did just D the crap out of Bazemore to end the half. If that was Felton defending him he wouldve blown right by him or just launched an uncontested 3pter.

  13. lavor postell

That Shump fast break was so predictable. Chandler and Melo’s effort tonight is really fucking annoying. Melo’s not a leader and Chandler hasn’t led shit this year other than a fucking layup line on our hoop.

  14. JK47

Anybody think the Knicks have a 16-point comeback in them? Because I sure don’t!

    Oops, make that 18-point comeback.

  15. BigBlueAL

Its amazing that this team just won 8 in a row (and did so by basically blowing all the teams they played out). They are so freaking mentally soft, one bad loss sends them into a complete tailspin. Every time this season they have a good stretch of play they suffer a bad loss which sends them into complete chaos. Mentally soft plus horribly coached.

  16. maxwell_3g

will the league let us play without a coach for the rest of the season?? i get that we dont want to hire one, but I cant take woodson and his stupid confused looks anymore (and I think the camera men know this)

  17. lavor postell

There are a lot of losses to blame on Woody, but this is completely on the players. Nobody other than maybe Shump and THJ can say they are giving their maximum effort tonight. Just pathetic in every aspect of the game.

Then again he did just switch to a zone…

  18. coyle022

Can’t wait to hear the post-game quotes. “They made shots.” “They just got hot.” “Give them credit.” “I mean again, we just didn’t make shots and they did.”

  19. coyle022

“I mean again, all I can do is come in here and work hard as the head coach and hopefully they fire my ass before the 4th quarter of this blowout.”

  20. Jack Bauer

Making a bunch of scrubs in Laker unis look like the Showtime Lakers…….Game and season over

  21. lavor postell

“Giving up on the season after a tough loss is a big part of what we do as a ball club”

“Giving up career highs to D-League players is a big part of what we do as a ball club”

“Giving up 51 points in a quarter is a big part of what we do as a ball club”

  23. BigBlueAL

Following the game on Twitter and on here is alot funner than watching the game lol.

Since its pretty evident this team has quit on the season I would be shocked if they win more than a few games the rest of the season. As I and others have mentioned before THANK GOD the Yankees (or whatever baseball team you root for) start next week.

  24. JK47

That was the worst quarter of defense I have ever seen in all of my years of watching the NBA, and I am not exaggerating. The Lakers scored 51 fucking points in that quarter. Fifty. One. Points.

I hope Phil Jackson gets rid of every player on this piece of shit team. I could care less about watching any one of these losers ever again.

The Guards have been getting torched all game. What the hell have shump and hardaway done? Chandler and Stat didnt deter anyone in the low post either. If im a coach and i see we are giving up 3 after 3 im going to make some sort of adjustment. No adjustment is how an 8 point lead turns into a 30 point lead in 12 mins

  26. danielbubbs1

hardaway jr. overuse by woodson is egregious; sure he’s a rookie, but playing serious minutes with undeveloped sense of shot selection, awful defense, missed layups and un-nuanced decisions on fast breaks has hurt the knicks often…he just played too much

and i just don’t buy that melo is back next season, sans Phil Jackson actually shocking everyone and deciding to coach the team. The money’s not a thing, cause he should get another contract in four years…

Jackson should coach for a season, attract free agents next season, and then work out a secret deal with Dolan that he’ll step down and get paid, so FA’s will sign and be stuck.

  27. coyle022

True thats why Aldrich and Tyler (Paint Presence + shot blocking) should have played more the entire year so he would be able to trust them in any situation…but of course. Veterans

  28. lavor postell

I don’t think Shump and THJ were the major culprits defensively, but either way I’m not going to defend anybody because nobody on this team is worth it.

  29. JK47

It’s the same old shit: low-IQ players half-heartedly playing an idiotic defensive scheme with zero communication or teamwork. I wonder why it’s not working.

  30. yellowboy90

I hope Tyson personal stuff gets worked out. How the Knicks never brought in another Pg is amazing.

  31. DRed

51 points in a quarter to one of the worst teams in the league. I don’t want to see anyone here tomorrow taking about playoff scenarios and what games we should win. This team simply sucks

  32. coyle022

The thing is, if they win tomorrow @SAC (highly unlikely) and ATL takes another L @MIN some will be suggesting that they can still make the playoffs

  33. Owen

“One of the worst defensive efforts we have ever seen in all our years watching the Knicks….”

    That’s saying a lot….

  34. Will the Thrill

Hey wherever Melo goes next year will be pretty good. Houston, Chi or Mia. Should be interesting

I’m leaning towards just wanting Melo to leave too. We need to start all over.

  35. er

“One of the worst defensive efforts we have ever seen in all our years watching the Knicks….”

I know the players are at fault. But you have to take JR or whoever else out if hes gonna keep leaving his man open for 3

  36. lavor postell

I’ve been all about keeping Melo, but we can’t build around him because he’s not a leader. At no point in this season has he held himself or others accountable beyond holding up his hand to acknowledge a mistake and I’m sorry but that’s not enough.

Sign-and-trade to Houston or Chicago or whoever. I really don’t give a fuck.

  37. er

Also from what I saw in the game Melo was going all out the whole time. Even though its not cool on this board to say that. I thought Chandler and Stat were horrible defensively

The 51 points in the third quarter was the most that the Lakers ever scored in a quarter in the history of their franchise and it was the most that the Knicks ever gave up in a quarter in the history of their franchise.

EPIC evening and we were following it. In a season full of fuck ups, blowing big leads to crappy eams, and letting scrubs hit their career highs against them, this ranks right at the top of the bozo meter for the year.
