This criticism of Lebron by Miller is absurd. “You shouldn’t ask people for help if you’re as good as Lebron.” What the fuck?

Clyde and Breen are being idiotic, talking about the lack of defensive intensity last game. That wasn’t even close to the problem, it was turnovers and fouls.

Fucking camera angles. Do they seriously think people want to see weird camera angles? They just want to see the game!!!
this has driven me crazy for years, the bigger the game, the more stupid, distracting angles they use.
I love J.R. but he can’t gamble, not even a little bit. It leads to too easy of a bucket for Lebron… Make the Heat work.

That was a GREAT use of ‘Melo… The Heat are always going to trap the ball-handler. Use those high pick-and-rolls to get ‘Melo open looks. He’s good enough to pass right as he gets the rock.
d-mar
LeBron drove, lost the ball, and the refs said “that can’t be, someone must have fouled him” and blew the whistle
because he’s not doing much posting,he’s getting the ball off movement.
That makes more sense than Clyde’s reasoning.

Weird how much Woodson likes playing Melo and Amare together… even if hasn’t realized they can’t both play well together it would seem like he would realize he needs one of them on the floor to have a legitimate threat on offense.

Next time they call a soft-ass tech on Chandler I dont mind if he just punches the ref in the fucking face and tell him “now thats a reason to call a technical!!”.
If Joey Crawford is the one that T’d him up then it’s over for us. Last 20 games that he’s issued technical fouls the team getting the first T is 1-19

I think that’s Shump’s role to get hit with a ridiculous T after an amazing dunk and looking the wrong way at someone. TC just being a team player and making up for Shumps absence.

I’m really liking the offense so far. Lots of side-to-side action. Bibby brought the ball up, passed to the wing and cut to the corner. Same thing on the other side.

Gotta give Woodson a lot of credit, me made some legit adjustments in the second game. Our offense is much smoother, still too many dumb mistakes to really have a chance though. Having Lin and Shunp back next year (almost certainly improved too) is going to make this a nice team. There’s no way they’re beating the Heat with Shunp out and Chandler limited half the series though

Heat shot 55.6% for the half and as mentioned before Knicks were lucky that Jones, Miller and Chalmers each missed WIDE OPEN 3pters. Not to mention all the layups and dunks they gave up. Knicks have to tighten up their D if they are going to win because they are not going to be able to win a shootout vs the Heat.

Why doesn’t Woodson use Amar’e in more off ball screening action? Set a double screen up for Novak weakside with Amar’e on the baseline and then Amar’e can come over and set a ball screen for ‘Melo strongside if Novak doesn’t get a clean look… Or he can roll to the rim if a Heat defender cheats… That would force the Heat to move on defense, giving ‘Melo more space to work…

I hate to sound like a broken record, but we really miss Jeremy Lin. The stats will show that Baron and Bibby played a good game, but the reality is without a PG who is a threat to penetrate and score, the Heat just overplay on the perimeter with no consequences. To me, thats why we lost the game – on offense. Amare played ok on O, but his rebounding and D was terrible – maybe blame that on the back a little.
I know all the Melo haters will be out tonight, but, to me, Melo played with a lot of heart tonight. He plays 44 minutes and the entire 2nd half vs. either Battier, who spends zero energy on offense, or Lebron. And then he guards Lebron for most of the game. Its so easy to say ‘Amare should get some more shots’. Like saying ‘Novak should get some more shots’. But the box score doesnt tell you everything. They tried to get Novak more shots – they couldnt. Amare wasnt aggressive enough in the post to get more shots. Its also the PG’s fault. Baron or JR holds the ball too much – then there are only 7-8 sec left on the clock and Melo or JR are your best choices. Hence they lead the team in shots.
I miss Jeremy Lin.
JC Knickfan
One big difference with Lin at PG is we alot more foul shots. Either he drives to lane and gets contact or create opportunity for one bigs for aggressive move to hoops. That either ends in a score or foul.
He max player but with Melo playing LBJ on defense and shooting 26 times for total 41 minutes, he look pretty tired at the end. His shot look weak at the end. This when we need some of that 32 PER 4th qt play from Lin.

Sure, they all had deficits along with their benefits. So did Melo. You can never win big games against great teams when you’re star player tries to do everything all by his lonesome.
Melo always wants the ball. He walks it down the court and takes shot after shot after shot without seeing the floor.
The reason everyone is standing around is because the ball goes into a black hole when it touches Melo’s fingers.
I know Melo is a super talented athlete. He’s a phenomenal scorer, that can rebound and play defense when he puts his mind to it. He can win a lot of games against a lot of teams taking thirty shots. But, he’ll never get to the championship with that style.

I’d fully agree with that assessment. In some ways, its not that discouraging – you hope the bench playes better at home, Chandler is closer to 100%, and Melo shoots a bit better. Get all 3 of those (not unreasonable) and we could take game 3.

The Heat are a superior talented team to the knicks. The only way to beat them is by playing smarter. The knicks play dumb basketball when the go into iso mode..
Oh, my friend, you’re right. The Knicks are so dynamic and versatile offensively there’s no excuse for him taking so many shots. Given how poor the Heat are closing out on shooters, and given the wealth of ballhandlers and drivers on the floor, it’s unbelievable that one guy would take 26 shots. The offense was quite successful when he wasn’t involved, either with the ball or as a decoy.

Melo played Lebron amazing first of all, Lebron scored most of his point in transition and had 19 points in 19 possessions. In fact, I’d say Melo was easily the best defender on the team this game, Chandler hasn’t been great (only 7 rebounds against Bosh and Haslem?) He wasn’t very efficient offensively, but he played 44 minutes, still carried the load for the most part, and had to guard Lebron the whole game while Lebron got to rest when Battier was in

He did a nice job on Lebron. Played him very tight and funneled him into help. I’d prefer to see him give space and make him beat you with shot instead of pass to their shooters.
This franchise really feels like its cursed, doesn’t it?

I’m just saying if he played more of a team concept the knicks would have a better chance of winning. Good ball movement and player movement make good things happen.
As unhumanly physically gifted as Lebron is, the biggest difference between him and Melo is that Lebron is a much smarter player.

That’s ridiculous, the Heat have a bunch of spot up shooters that know how to both handle the ball and move off it, several capable point guards who can hit 3’s, get penetration, and play D, and of course they have Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, both of whom are very talented offensively. The Heat would still be a great team with Anthony, and a legit threat to win a championship, Wade could simply take on a larger role than he does now.

Lebron is a point guard. **** is not a point guard. There is little balance in the Knicks offense because there aren’t players that can beat their defender, even on ball reversals.
With Lebron, you have a guy by the name of Wade who destroys defenses on the weakside with his penetration — all of which create ball movement.
**** creates defensive attention in the post. He gets trapped in the pick and roll. Each of these things allow many players in the NBA to function at a higher level, but the Knicks oftentimes don’t have the personnel to take advantage of it.

Lebron being better doesn’t mean Melo wasn’t playing a team game. The team gameplan did not put him into a position where he could move the ball. JR Smith was the point guard for much of the game, for crying out loud! It is not Melo deciding how the game goes, it is the coach, the personnel on the Knicks’ team and the defense of the other team – all three things made ball movement next to impossible to pull off.

The Knicks ran sets that should accommodate ball movement. They significantly improved player movement– but player movements matters little when you can make a defense pay for overplaying passing lanes, and you cannot get the ball below the three point line on the bounce.

@310 how can you applaud Amar’e? Is that how a grown man is supposed to react to a loss? How about a little more defense and rebounding before we go applauding him for “caring.” If he really cared he would work harder on defense I can’t stand watching him let Heat players finish uncontested shots. That’s nonsense. You have the cart before the horse. Remember when the NBA superstars lost in the Olympics. You could have said the same thing then. Any player can pass the ball.
Melo is anti-ball movement. He’s an iso, hero-ball player. He doesn’t even think of passing a lot of the time.

I’m more concerned with defense rather than offense at this point- I think the Knicks will get a few more calls in the garden and just that should get them to around 100 pts. The problem is the Heat are getting great looks- even in half-court sets. LBJ is getting too much penetration, Wade is getting easy catches in the post, two passes and Miller/Chalmers/Battier are wide open for three. Put Chandler back on Haslem/Anthony and have him be the help guy- as it is now everyone is looking to help on LBJ and Wade and the rotations are all out of whack. Let Amar’e guard Bosh- he scored 21 on twelve shots tonight- how much worse could Amar’e be?

Novak, Bibby, and Fields are destroying the Knicks’ D. They overhelp, often without reason, and have no ability to get back to their men. Seriously, trade those 3 for Chalmers, Battier, and Mike Miller and the series is totally changed, it’s not just Miami’s superstars that are killing us (Lebron didn’t have a very good game tonight for one). At some point Woodson is going to have to risk Lebron and Wade finishing over Chandler, and make the other players play tight on shooters. Letting Lebron kick it out to open shooters is the worst defensive strategy a team can possibly have against the Heat.

Ok, I’ve been an optimist so far, but now its time to concede its not going to happen. I do see 2 positives – 1. no reason to rush back Lin and therefore no further risk to the knee. 2. winning one game will feel like winning the NBA championship. I feel like the crowd on Thursday will realize this and somehow will this team to victory. And if they do, even if they end up losing the series in 5, it will be very, very sweet.

ruruland: When teams overplay passing lanes and you can’t penetrate at more than one position it’s what happens.
This is true. You have to have ball handlers against this team to not only deal with the ball pressure, but because they are so quick, you aren’t always going to have the time to get a shot off. Sometimes you need a headfake and then a drive. If you look at Dallas last year, their key adjustment was adding Barea to the starting lineup. His extra ball handling and ability to penetrate made it easier to punish Miami when they helped on Dirk.
That said, we need more consistency from our first options as well. Melo started off well and kept us in the game, but James just wore him out. Stoudemire, meanwhile, only got 9 shots but made 6 of them. I worry that Woodson’s affection for isolations is really hurting us. Hell, let JR Smith iso some just to give Melo a break if you are so afraid of a more complex offense. Chalmers and Mike Miller are mediocre defenders — I’ll take a Smith fallaway against them over a Melo fallaway with James draped over him like a cheap coat.
Also, did you all hear the stat they gave about Woodson? His teams have lost their last 6 playoff games now, and all the losses have been by double digits. 3 of the 5 have been by 30+ points. Kind of a scary stat.

4) Orlando – Howard done

Setting strong screens is a death knell against the Heat, especially with our ball handlers. The Heat like to trap. If you set a strong screen, that requires that you stay muddled up with the other four players for a longer period of time. This allows the trapping Heat defense to close the window for a pass before the screener and the dribbler have the spacing to make that pass.
I know we struggled to score in game 1, so everyone is looking at the offense…but we lost this game defensively. If you looked at the shot chart, the vast majority of Wade’s shots were in the paint, b/c we fell asleep at the wheel on cuts (Landry) or didn’t push him out of the paint and not allow him to get position before he catches the ball (JR). Our close out help defense was also mediocre leaving Miller and Battier open for WIDE open threes.

I guess we’ll see more of Novak with Amar’e likely to miss at least one of the next two. Oddly, Novak’s probably been better on D than on offense. While he does stretch the floor, anytime he touches the ball that doesn’t involve shooting it gets pretty ugly- he never makes a quick pass that will lead to an open shot, Even just dumping the ball out to the perimeter takes him forever- really kills any offensive flow.

Fields looked like he was Wade’s conjoined twin on that last Wade jumper and Wade still made it. That is not a good omen.
I forgot MSG had the game. Bye bye, TNT!
We’re winning in rebounds.
I literally just said the same thing in my basketball group
They have shot the ball very well so far. Points in paint under control in half-court.
Not sure what we are doing on offense, but our defense looks okay when the Heat aren’t in transition.
Don’t look now but ‘Melo has 8 in the first!
Come on guys, let’s quit whining about the refs.
Don’t know how I feel about Melo taking all those shots. I know we don’t have a lot of options, but maybe a little more Amare and JR?
Yep.
Thanks. Didn’t know. Hi Clyde.
They have designed plays to get other guys going early, but so far **** seems to be the only who can get a shot off….
Wow, I guess that does make sense to have Bibby out there if he can hit his open threes.
Bibby is definitely more solid in the playoffs, looking good.
That was a sick move by Lebron.
Melo up to 50%!
I love J.R. but he can’t gamble, not even a little bit. It leads to too easy of a bucket for Lebron… Make the Heat work.
**** got a call!!!
^
He Who Must Not Be Named?
Hopefully he’s going to open the game up for them.
That was a GREAT use of ‘Melo… The Heat are always going to trap the ball-handler. Use those high pick-and-rolls to get ‘Melo open looks. He’s good enough to pass right as he gets the rock.
LeBron drove, lost the ball, and the refs said “that can’t be, someone must have fouled him” and blew the whistle
Why aren’t the Heat fronting Melo like they did in Game 1? Weird decision.
This seems like game 2 of the playoffs last year…except now we have good players beside Melo.
How racist/xenophobic is this ESL class commercial for the lottery?
Clyde just said why.
A bit of an improvement this game, eh? Love this Melo!
But that reasoning doesn’t make sense. Fronting Melo helps them against the other Knicks, too.
Lol Doug, but it shall be so!
Anyone see that Jordon Hill has been charged with choking his girlfriend? What timing – a great playoff game followed by this news? Wow.
because he’s not doing much posting,he’s getting the ball off movement.
That makes more sense than Clyde’s reasoning.
Weird how much Woodson likes playing Melo and Amare together… even if hasn’t realized they can’t both play well together it would seem like he would realize he needs one of them on the floor to have a legitimate threat on offense.
Ouch, that was a great look for JR. I love that the Knicks got the rebound, though.
let’s talk about that right now.
Man they need to lay off of my man Tyson.
Chandler!
Oh man, a T?!!? Ugh. Probably “deserved,” but ugh.
Nba officiating makes me sick
FUCK JOEY CRAWFORD
I like the way the dumb Heat fans moan after every foul, even if it’s obvious
Right, wtf is he doing?
Sick play by Chandler and the fucking refs step in to ensure any Knicks momentum is killed.
Literally not one moment of enjoyment in this series that hasn’t immediately been fucked in the ass by them.
Uh oh… It’s tied 29-29.
Cue the refs!
Novak has taken three shots this series and he has made them all. All threes.
Bibby actually doing a pretty nice job out there
Right? The moan when Wade fouled Jeffries was comical.
Wade throwing Bibby’s shoe away right in front of him hahaha god I hate him
what did clyde say, I don’t have msg
tight shooting windows on all of them.
I can’t wait to hear the Garden.
Yeah, Novak’s three was like threading a needle.
FUCK WADE THAT IS A T!!!!
That the Heat were just letting Melo get his and just keeping the rest of the team down.
That was a hilarious call by clyde right before the alley oop. “shoot it JR!”
You think Spoelstra might rest LeBron the rest of the game to save him for game 3?
How did Wade deke both Smith and Jeffries?
And it’s on plays like that that losing Shump hurts us…
Speaking of Game 2 deja vu, Jeffries missing easy shots around the basket.
Wade held Novack on that rebound after Miller fouled Jeffries twice.
oh god. more charles smith flashbacks. where’s my jameson.
What a great foul by Bibby on Bosh! That is a lot of strength there.
By not doubling perhaps.
The heat are a bunch of b**ches…with the flops and dwade chucking bibby’s shoe…on top of the laughing on the benchin gm 1…and the decision… etc…how could anyone root for these jackasses….
Chandler looks like a new man tonight
What a play by Chandler!
I’m really liking the offense so far. Lots of side-to-side action. Bibby brought the ball up, passed to the wing and cut to the corner. Same thing on the other side.
Chandler and Novak doing work!
It probably nearly went in but I don’t want Bibby taking pull-up jumpers.
That Heat shot was amazing. Smith’s was nearly as good!!! WOW!
Are you allowed to throw an elbow at a defender to clear out space?
You are if you’re Dwyane Wade.
Lebron just tackled JR Smith no foul.
No foul Really.
Wade with a blatant push-off before the baby hook.
Knicks D has been pretty bad. Luckily the Heat’s best 3pt shooters have missed some wide open shots.
That was truly unbelievable, I just screamed so loud my dog ran out of the room
Ridiculous 2 no calls on that.
Refs are getting smarter, if you only let the heat get away with fouls there is no huge foul disparity afterwards
True, Al. The Heat have missed some wide open looks.
Ha! Looks like it.
Yet they are still shooting almost 56% so far.
That’s a beautiful play. **** the decoy!
Novak is freaking clueless on defense.
Gotta hustle back even if you think you got screwed, Melo.
Did Amar’e even try to collect that miss?
Nice rebound, Amar’e! (sarcasm)
Bosh looked like a spitting duckbill dinosaur after that play
I hope not. At least he’d have the excuse of “I didn’t even try”. As it was, it was pathetic.
I don’t mind him getting beat to a board, but he didn’t even try! Bosh looked shocked that he was all alone with the ball!
Need to finish this half strong, if we’re down 10 or more at the half we’re done
Brian, this is the start of what Clyde was talking about.
Bosh and LeBron have each bitched out at the refs and not gotten a tech.
Nice Amare a dunk and a block! Now that’s a 20 mil PF!
Great help by Amar’e
Fields needs to perfect some weird kind of bank shot. Seems like such a landry thing to do.
and for those that don’t have MSG…what is the start of what Clyde is talking about?
Damn that’s the first time I’ve ever seen a literal “in yo face” during an NBA game
And Chalmers pushed him in the back, that’s what the bench was screaming about
Can you imagine if the Knicks ever got a friendly whistle? Or a lucky break with injuries?
What the fuck was that Melo?
WELP. We lasted about 5 minutes longer! Hopefully the break at the half allows us to regroup.
This is some of the worst defense Ive ever seen in a playoff game. Just awful.
two for one
Having said all that, only down 6 at the half. Hopefully Chandler plays more in the 2nd half.
Haha, refs don’t call a foul even when Miami wants to foul
Why does JR touch the person’s legs when they are shooting? How many times does he need to be called for a foul??
2 seconds left on the clock. Believe it or not it makes it hard to score. Melo isn’t the dumbass this board sometimes makes him out to be
C’mon buddy. Lebron vs Amar’e in pick and roll? Pretty sure I’ve seen lebron do that to the best pick and roll defenses ever. Amar’e didn’t hedge enough.
Breen: “James tried to foul him”…but of course the refs would not hear of it
So…anyone have some adjustments that the Knicks can make for the next half?
Free throw count tonight: Miami 14 New York 6
Series count: 49-17 Miami!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spread the word on Twitter. You cna change this series if it gets reported on enough. Tweet all of the reporters.
Pretty sure there was 8 seconds left on the shot clock, I may be wrong.
Running back on D no matter what happens refwise would be a good start, gave up too many transition baskets
Bibby was really good this half. I guess 15 min is his max in a half, but I would like to see him out there as much as possible in the 2nd half. He really settles the team down.
6 is not so bad. Could have been a disaster at the end of the quarter. Just need to hang around until late in the 4th and hope Melo goes crazy.
Man, Amare is invisible out there…
3 FGA, 3 rebs in 19 mins.
Far from watching fun basketball, but the one-man army at least keeping Knicks in the game.
I live in Southern California, so I can only have TNT. I cannot stand the play-by-play man (whatever his name is). So, I come here to get a true picture of whatever is going on. I will have to do the same thing on Thursday; I would pay anything to get MSG, but DirectTV refused. Life is just tough all over. Woe is me!!!
I hope Lin will feel well by next Sunday, so he can play in the Garden. I can then watch on ABC.
Great game so far.
Cheers!
Time for Knicks try matchup Zone.
LOL you are talking about Kevin Harlan. I like him alot better than Reggie Miller. Bummer no Marv and Fratello doing the game tonight.
I dont know, watching Melo score against Lebron and Battier (theoretically 2 of the best defensive players in the league) is pretty fun. Just like watching Bernard’s 1-man show back in ’84 was pretty fun….
Knicks missed some wide open shots too, that happens to wry team. Landry and Novak need to stop over helping so stupidl though
Why doesn’t Woodson use Amar’e in more off ball screening action? Set a double screen up for Novak weakside with Amar’e on the baseline and then Amar’e can come over and set a ball screen for ‘Melo strongside if Novak doesn’t get a clean look… Or he can roll to the rim if a Heat defender cheats… That would force the Heat to move on defense, giving ‘Melo more space to work…
STAT really needs to step up in the 2nd half. But the good news is Chandler looks like his old self, very energized.
Because Mike Bibby can’t get him the ball on the move at all. There’s just no threat of penetration
Good play right out of halftime…
No, I meant have ‘Melo as the ball handler up top near the wing.
Haslem already with 2 offensive rebs this quarter over Amar’e.
Damn baron really really needs to FLOP!!
when they get a chance, they should really put a HARD foul on Lebron when he’s going to the basket.
Did the Heat just get an offensive foul called on them?
Is this signifying a change in the tide?
…
Probably not.
LeBron James, count it, and the foul LeBron James, count it, and the foul LeBron James, count it, and the foul LeBron James, count it, and the foul
Good night
I just can’t imagine us winning a game this series. We are worse in almost every facet of the game.
I imagine taking a charge on Lebron would be having your life flash before your eyes…
I’m sorry guys, but as a NYer I’m embarrassed by all of this whining about the calls. Since time began the superstars get the calls. I think it was in the bible or something.
Nice shot by STAT.
Why don’t they foul him before he gets right under the basket for once?
Free throws: 51-17 Miami
Yeah, on one of those drives earlier, it is like “How can you defend a guy that big moving that fast?!”
Worse, but not a lot worse. They’re close enough that they should be able to be competitive. It was always going to be a tough try, though.
Whistle has been a huge factor. I literally don’t care that people want to deny that.
Too bad Baron’s health can’t allow him to give 35 quality mins. I think we’d at least have a chance if he could.
It’s pretty safe to say every time a Heatle loses the ball on the way to the hoop there will be a foul called.
Why is melo being so passive this quarter, damn..
The reffing sucks but I will say that we just grab and grab every time we get beat
See what I mean? The Knicks should be able to hang with them. Big bucket by Davis.
Hangin in there!
Can you imagine if Novak was on the Heat? He might average 24 per game, all on open 3’s.
Man, how freakin’ stupid did LJ and Mourning look on that replay?
Yeah, but we have big dudes on our team too. If you’re gonna foul him make him feel it a little.
What are Oak and Mase up to these days?
Shhhhhhhhh….don’t remind them that they can give him the mini-MLE this offseason.
The Heat are not making their freebies. That could be huge.
It’s weird how the offense seems to be either/or. First half was all Melo with Amar’e standing around- now they seem to be looking for Amar’e every time down the floor and Melo stands around- it’d be nice to mix it up a little more.
I was noticing the same thing. It really is weird.
Another good look bricked by the Heat. Phew.
Ugh. Novak was so happy he was open that he rushed one. Ugh.
Wide open 3 after wide open 3, they are just missing some.
I love James trying to complain on that call. Seriously, Lebron? The crowd, though, is even dumber because they saw a replay and still thought it wasn’t a foul!
Man if Novak is worth 3 or 4 mil a year then Battier should get the max. Battier is schooling him.
Wait, ref, you can’t call a foul on LeBron, it’s in the rules!
What the fuck Amare, Jesus
Oh for THREE, STAT?
Not a vet play there by Davis.
How is LeBron not getting called for technicals after every basket?
Everything he does is worse than what Chandler did.
Not to mention Battier who is worse.
I third that re: melo/amare.
And if they both sit on the bench at the same time again I’m gonna start a Fire Woodson chant
In-fucking-sane.
How about a T for Chalmers?
I have no words for how much I hate the Heat and their bitching when they have a 40 free throw advantage in 70 minutes of play
More annoying, agreed, but by the letter of the law, Chandler directed his celebration directly in the face of the Heat player. That’s going to be a taunting T every time.
20% FT shooting to end the quarter….
The heat are missing three’s and free throws but so are the Knicks. Unfortunately the heat aren’t being forced to play Fields and Bibby major minutes. Trade those two straight up for battier and chalmers and that totally changes the series. Also having reasonable refs, it’s not like the Knicks aren’t attacking
Game 1 was ridiculous, but I humbly request that you look at each game individually. If you include the game 1 fiasco in very FT post the numbers will always look insane. This particular game is a normal home team/superstar thing.
I have no respect for any member of the Heat.
Embarrassing, Novak.
I don’t care. 33 free throw discprenacy is insane.
Our offense and defense is now a joke. Goodnight folks
Shane Battier is a fucking pussy. I have zero respect for him.
Novak played some nice D on Wade.
they’re all pussies….lebron looks like that kid who struts in his own driveway but would hide behind mom’s skirt if he was anywhere else…
I’m impressed that Melo is willing to go without much rest this game. They need him out there.
The Garden better be insane
they’re a disgrace to the game.
Novak is starting to show why he didn’t get much playing time before this year. He contributes nothing against a defense as good as Miami
I wish those pussies played on the Knicks.
So dumb there by Wade.
let’s take that attitude into Thursday.
last time I was at the garden for a playoff game, the upper deck was shaking…on a totally unrelated note…Novak seems to come up with a surprising number of rebounds for someone who is “just a shooter”
A blocking foul! Hallelujah!
Don’t think you have to worry about that
don’t just give up the layup. come on guys. effort and heart no matter the score.
Bibby, Fields, and Jeffires are doing nothing right now. It’s such a shame that the whole starting back court is injured
pussies or not, they’re a far superior team than this knicks team. by tuning up defense they basically shut melo down after half time.
really? they don’t live up to the legacy of Oak, Mase and Starks…it would be like watching the yankees….
In all seriousness, not trolling, do you have $ on the Knicks? Cause you sound just like me when I bet – the other team and the refs are worse than Hitler.
I got sidetracked at the end of the 3rd, start of 4th. Did I miss something egregious?
Gotta love the Knicks pulling away from Chalmers on the open three.
So it would be like watching a championship winning team?? Thats good enough for me.
Novak’s height is actually causing some problem for Wade.
Chalmers is absolutely killing us this game
Yes Baron Davis can easily take down Lebron James. Fucking refs are ridiculous
Nope, just the heat winning
Yeah Melo didn’t get pushed.
LMAO Lebron bumps **** out of bounds and no call –out of bounds on Melo.
The NBA is a joke.
thats not a team, its a machine…its boring…not to mention that AL baseball is an abomination….but thats a different discussion
Fuck these Isos Woody, gimme some TC pnr, stop this crap. Your job is on the line
Can you believe that shit???
Have we even won a single quarter in this series?
Yeah, Melo usually just steps out of bounds when he goes baseline, nothing to do with contact.
unfortunately…yes.
Also amar’e needs to just be benched when he plays D that pathetic. Really needs to be held fucking accountable
STAT’s defense has been an ’embarassment to the game,’ not LeBron playing like an MVP.
Fuck this team
Right now it will be an accomplishment if the Knicks can lose by only single digits at MSG.
This is pathetic, come on Knicks
Yes we need more of that
WTF man, that’s not a foul!!!
Isiah Thomas and Scott Layden combined wont end up doing the damage to this franchise that Amare’s contract will.
Nice to see Turiaf happy, I guess…
Cheap fouls, these refs.
I can’t see anyone stopping the Heat this year, and if someone does, it just shows how damn bad we really are.
Overstatement of the year.
They’re not even trying. Clips didn’t give up last night in a MUCH more dismal situation. Pathetic.
History not on our side people, we getting hosed big time
Ha! There is that! Then again, it also means Curry is happy and really, fuck that guy. If you talk about bad guys, that’s a bad guy. Dude didn’t even try his last few years of his contract in New York.
No one is stopping the Heat this year. Only person stopping them is Lebron shrinking in the Finals. But they can’t be stopped when they get a highly favorable whistle like this.
Yeah yeah. Its total hyperbole. I’m so angry I can’t even think straight.
LOL kinda agree with Reggie Miller, Knicks playing 1 on 1, whoever has the ball, everybody else just stands there and watch. Heat is passing the ball all around. Davis is shooting the ball nicely in the playoffs, but my god he just can’t create for others it seems.
Spurs, Thunder and Lakers can give them a tough series and possibly beat them. In the East though cant see the Heat going longer than 5 games in any series which is exactly what happened last year.
lmao. Seriously? You think the Knicks are quitting.
I can feel the barrage of negativity coming. C’mon guys, we’re playing the favorites to win it all without our PG and our best perimeter defender and in their building as well. Just chill and let’s see what happens Thursday.
Turiaf’s good outweighs Curry’s evil!
Uh, you want me to dig up the Eddy Curry trade and contract for you? Please.
At least Amar’e was signed for too much money, unlike the typical “let’s give up cap space AND picks AND young talent” like we did with the SERIOUSLY OVERRATED Carmelo Anthony.
Melo is too cuddly with Lebron, come on man, where’s the hate?
I think the Lakers and Spurs can beat them. They’re one or 2 players short of being one of those all time type teams.
When teams overplay passing lanes and you can’t penetrate at more than one position it’s what happens.
Its not a matter of effort. Wish it was since that would be easier to fix.
Go look at what Fields, Bibby, and Jeffries shot this game. Now imagine upgrading those guys to Lin, Shump, and jerome Jordan (ok ok that’s a stretch) this team has plenty of room for improvement next year.
Also can Melo get some credit? He’s played the whole half and had to guard Lebron the whole game. lebron was on Melo like half the game at best
So the Knicks are about to tie the NBA record for most games lost in a row in the playoffs. Uncool.
This is pathetic, so pathetic
Instead of pussyfooting around Bosh on that fake, Carmelo should have fouled out in style.
Say what you want about him, but he played hard.
The one Woodson thing that is killing me is Tyson on Bosh. Hate it.
I hear you. Unfortunately it’s not like the old days anymore.
Agreed. I certainly wouldn’t pin this loss on him.
He also didn’t have a great game, either. So I think he’s pretty much neutral for the game.
Also he’s not a flopping bitch. Playing to win shouldn’t have to mean playing without respect
Excuses excuses excuses, there was a point in the game where we had the lead
Down the stretch… when we were down 12, did you think we even had a chance? I didn’t. But then again, the team didn’t exactly look like they believed EITHER.
I mean, whatever, I had zero expectation of winning this series — I DREAM about the possibility of pulling the upset, but I’m a total realist — but I expected more competitive games.
The Heat should win the championship, unfortunately. I’m still fucking angry that we didn’t fall into the 8 spot. We could have made a surprising, momentum building, confidence building run. Against the Heat? NO FUCKING CHANCE
Big win for the Yankees, at least!
And maybe the Rangers can come back in the third.
Pathetic! Another 10 years! Pathetic.
#1 stat that needs to change for game 3: Melo 26 shots, Amare 9 shots.
I don’t know who’s fault that is.
Melo played great but he can’t guard Lebron AND take 1/3 of the team’s shots.
I admit we have no chance without Melo, and he was absolutely great down the stretch. But he’s a second tier star who is paid first tier money.
Really I was far more angry at STAT in this game, who has sadly turned into a league average player (maybe) paid like a first tier star.
Who has an even worse contract that we can flip STAT for? I’ll maintain optimism that he will find a second life as a useful role player, but his defensive commitment has never been more obviously missing than tonight. Missed rotations, matador D, AWFUL fouls late in the possession. Terrible game.
Neutral? I dont know, I would say he was a positive. Can you name anyone else who was a bigger positive?
Oh Lebron is such a loser, has no pride or respect for his own legacy. All the negativity is deserved, he brought it on himself.
JR Smith and Tyson Chandler. Maaaaaaaybe Davis, but probably not.
Not a lot of positive performances in this game, hence the loss.
I didn’t know the heat was so good. I mean , they do have one of the top recordes in the nba. But I didn’t know they were that good. Their defense is amazing. Or unbeleivable. Which ever word you want to pick is fine with me. At least there is the rangers.
Please stop this bullshit crap about the man’s contract. Get over it. We are Knicks fans, our priority should be winning a game whether we have Melo or Walker on the floor. The money or status of the man shouldn’t concern you. How about some input on how we can improve for the next game. Maybe it’ll make it to the coaches. Now you want start arguments about contracts and player rankings. Really? Your team just lost man.
Disagree. Smith did not do a good job on Wade. Melo played Lebron ok. Chandler had 7 boards, but 3 were on that tip drill. He didnt play Bosh well. he was ok, but didnt have the huge impact on the game he can have. I would say Melo and him were about equal.
Rangers tied their game in the third, at least.
Yeah I’m praying he heals fast. We need him to save our dignity.
Sure, they all had deficits along with their benefits. So did Melo. Essentially, no one on the Knicks really had an outstanding game (Davis scored well but he played poor defense) which is why they lost. Their main guys were okay and the bench (outside of Smith) was bad. I wouldn’t hold out any Knick tonight and say, “That guy deserves credit for tonight’s game.”
If **** gets a couple of foul calls, who knows how close the game would have been. If zebras make those calls in the Garden they better not make it out in-tact.
Lost 1st game in the regular season by 10 – it’s early in the season
Lost 2nd game in the regular season by 14 – no amar’e/melo
Lost 3rd game in the regular season by 8 – melo goes wild but he can’t do it alone!
Lost 1st game in playoff by 33 – fucking stupid referees cost us the game!
Lost 2nd game in playoff by 10 – well, it’s their home court, let’s see how we do back in the garden
We should stop making excuses anymore, this heat team is just an impossible matchup for us. I really wished we won that game in Cle. and gotten the 6th seed, it would have been far far easier than this.
Seriously – Dallas did last year. Somebody tell Woodson try zone matchup. He got 2 day put together for Thursday game at home.
Melo from cuse he should know how play it. Let TC play to his strength underneath the basket.
For majority year we where PNR team. BD and Melo seem to run best and we should continue running it. I rather save Melo leg for 4qt when we possible need his volume scoring the most.
The Heat are a superior talented team to the knicks. The only way to beat them is by playing smarter. The knicks play dumb basketball when the go into iso mode..
Wow Fields was -15 in 18 minutes. He’s just a waste of space against Miami…
Seriously I’m going to rest my head. Remember this, yes we’re playing the favorites and the odds are against us and blah blah but I wander what y’all will say if say the Bulls beat the Heat later without D rose. Like a game of poker, the best hand doesn’t always win and the country with the best weapons doesn’t always win the war. We still have a chance. Hope is an emotion, but it’s damn much better than giving up. Peace and Go NY.
I’d fully agree with that assessment. In some ways, its not that discouraging – you hope the bench playes better at home, Chandler is closer to 100%, and Melo shoots a bit better. Get all 3 of those (not unreasonable) and we could take game 3.
What’s Melo supposed to do, though? Who on this team is going to move the ball (especially against the Heat)? There’s no one. Can’t blame a guy for not moving the ball when there’s no one on the team who can move the ball. That was what made Lin so valuable.
I do.
The knicks have zero chance of winning this series. Even if they win a game or two, what does it matter?
You imagine Westbrook playing as a weakside attack player with ****? So many great driving lanes.
cmon, this analysis is ridiculous
You blame Woodson for some that also.
Melo doesn’t endurance to play like that for 48 minutes. Missing foul shot most telling sign fatigue. So yes, I agree this doesn’t work.
Marc J. Spears ? @SpearsNBAYahoo Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire cut his hand after punching hard surface in lockeroom, sources tell @YahooSports.
Jared Zwerling? @JaredZwerling Paramedics rushed into the Knicks locker room. Not sure why at this moment.
He couldn’t even defend his hand.
Nothing matters. Nothing. If they aren’t winning the championship right now, everything sucks.
Melo played Lebron amazing first of all, Lebron scored most of his point in transition and had 19 points in 19 possessions. In fact, I’d say Melo was easily the best defender on the team this game, Chandler hasn’t been great (only 7 rebounds against Bosh and Haslem?) He wasn’t very efficient offensively, but he played 44 minutes, still carried the load for the most part, and had to guard Lebron the whole game while Lebron got to rest when Battier was in
Oh my god.
He did a nice job on Lebron. Played him very tight and funneled him into help. I’d prefer to see him give space and make him beat you with shot instead of pass to their shooters.
This franchise really feels like its cursed, doesn’t it?
Also, how does a team get 12 offensive rebounds, shoot only 15 3’s, yet end up with 19 free throws? (only 3 players even got fouled, and Chandler had 1 free throw)
I’m just saying if he played more of a team concept the knicks would have a better chance of winning. Good ball movement and player movement make good things happen.
As unhumanly physically gifted as Lebron is, the biggest difference between him and Melo is that Lebron is a much smarter player.
Trade Lebron for Melo and the Heat have an uncohesive selfish offense. The knicks would have a fun, fluid dynamic offense – all because of style.
They tried pnr after pnr with Amar’e. In fact, on many possessions **** shot Amar’e was the first option. But, without a penetrating point guard or shooting guard, it’s very difficult to get him shots.
While stupid, I’m sure the cut is not a big deal. Amar’e is not that dumb.
Again, the analysis is, how shall I say, lacking.
This is just silly. I don’t care if you talk about Melo. I’m sure no one else does, either. Go ahead. But if you’re going to talk about him (which you obviously are), just talk about him.
Maybe a little less punching fire extinguishers, a little more rebounding and defense.
I applaud Amare, but we’re not 15 but at least he cares. If only he could punch Bosh or Lebron.
Chalmers is a very good weakside attack player. He would function at a high level with the Knicks.
Wade, Chalmers and Lebron all get into the lane against rotation.
The Knicks players, outside of Melo, do not get into the lane against rotations. Lin can do it, too. JR used to be able to do this.
Guys the tweety bird is blowing up, apparently Amare punched a locker or fire extinguisher and is bleeding. Paramedics rushed in or something.
+1. Did I mention I miss Jeremy Lin?
The Knicks ran sets that should accommodate ball movement. They significantly improved player movement– but player movements matters little when you can make a defense pay for overplaying passing lanes, and you cannot get the ball below the three point line on the bounce.
@310 how can you applaud Amar’e? Is that how a grown man is supposed to react to a loss? How about a little more defense and rebounding before we go applauding him for “caring.” If he really cared he would work harder on defense I can’t stand watching him let Heat players finish uncontested shots. I have no sympathy for Amar’e and I just hope he doesn’t have to miss any games for that childish shit. Of course maybe if he did miss some games it wouldn’t be such a bad thing. I was a huge Amar’e supporter at the beginning of the year, but as of right now, he’s gotta go.
That’s just so stupid. Block someone out. Show you care by playing harder defensively.
Holy shit if this AJ Burnett 2.0 I’m going to scream.
The Heat have lost plenty of games this season. They can be beat. But you have to play smarter.
Actually, that’s fair. They did run sets early on like that. They seemed to eventually abandon them, though, as the game went on (I guess because they stopped working after awhile).
It is silly, I agree. But I don’t see a difference. I’m not actually using his name as I said I wouldn’t. And you will not find my name and **** in this thread by search.
I was thinking the same thing at the end of the game. The Knicks had their best lineup on the court and the Heat were still seemingly scoring at will. They would cut off one of the Big 2 and Chalmers, Battier or Miller would be wide open .
They became pretty predictable.
Unnecessary Injury Amare, you know you cost $100 million dollars. Trying to beat the heat with a fire extinguisher? smart but come on it’s not funny.
Yes, Woodson is to blame, too. He needs to have the knicks playing harder than the Heat, and more like a team.
The Heat put out more energy and player smarter. And of course, more athletic.
At least he attacked the glass once tonight, I guess.
Not first half – Melo went and shot the ball on many possession. Iso was first play that was it.
2nd half movement alot better, but that when Melo shot was not falling. Seem like if Amare start to score Melo stop scoring.
But give you that without Lin we don’t really have great PNR person.
Amare is out for at least game 3, maybe for the series. or so it sounds like listening to Tyson in the locker room.
damnit amare if you’re gonna miss the next game, at least punch lebron in the face instead of raw steel.
CHandler says Amar’e is done for the series.
How does this change AMar’e reputation in New York?
Everyone calling for Jerome Jordan may actually get their wish.
Best tweet Ive read is from Alex Kennedy:
Landry Fields tried to punch the same fire extinguisher, but missed.
Rumor now is that because of Amare punching of the fire extinguisher, the refs are calling a flagrant two on LeBron. So at least we get the ball back.
Battier make 3 Mil
Chalmers makes 4 Mil
Miller makes 5 Mil
Novak – Min
Bibby – Min
Fields – Min
Hopefully next year when the team is healthy Melo will be less “self-centered” and more “team-oriented”; after all, he really isn’t as good as he think he is..
Yeah, that’s why the knicks are losing.
Yes but those kind of players can be acquired over time (look at Lin, Shump, JR) right now the Knicks don’t have them, partly because of injuries. Jorts and Jordan have also shown promise, the Knicks really need to have better players than Fields and Bibby out there against the Heat though, there is simply no one the Heat have that is close to that bad.
Amare being self destructive.
“Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire cut his hand after punching hard surface in locker room, sources tell @YahooSports.”

I was upset with Amar’e after the game ended. Now I’m hoping he gets traded ASAP, I don’t care who for.
I love this team but this is a joke
WHAT??? I just finished watching the game — so annoyance is really fresh right now. I know the heat are really good…but Woodson is PISSING me off.
Amare and Carmelo does not work. Woodson refuses to acknowledge this by 1) starting them together 2) playing them together at all times — when neither player helps the other on offense …I guess now there’s no choice.
We have to be the most cursed franchise of the last 10 years
“That said, we need more consistency from our first options as well. Melo started off well and kept us in the game, but James just wore him out. they try to run a lot of other things and don’t have the personnel for it. JR handled the ball a ton when he was in.
Ok seriously, you don’t think Jeremy Lin and Shumpert are significant upgrades over what they’re playing now? Earlier in the year many people were calling him a top 10 point guard, at least top 15, now he wouldn’t be a significant upgrade over the worst point guard in the NBA (Bibby)?
When your 6’10 player doesn’t feel the need to close out shooters two feet away from him how do expect to win.
You’re joking, right. Did you watch the when the Heat played the knicks during Linsanity? They put an end to that chapter.
I was so pissed…I fast forwarded through the majority of the 4th quarter… I guess Amare couldnt do that…jeezus
Please God, let this constitute a breach of his contract.
interesting thought
We’ll finally have Melo at PF and playing without Amare unless Woodson does something smart like playing Jeffries at the 4.
and fucking start JR! I don’t care if he likes to come off the bench.
Baron-JR-Fields-Melo-Chandler… for the love of all that is good in this world!!!!!
I find it funny that people get mad when Melo set screens and picks for several possessions and also get made when he tries to shoot.
On another note. It would be nice of Melo, Amar’e, and occasionally Chandler would actually set a good screen for their teammates.
hoola, you’re lack of acknowledgement of context is laughable
When do the Knick have time for that? We don’t even have enough to resign Novak as 3pt specialist. He not defensive specialist – killing him over defense is pointless.
Knicks starting lineup pretty much going to TC, Amare, Melo, Field and Lin next year.
Shump probably out till December and has play way back into starting lineup.
Our top FA signing will be for 1.96 Million BAE and 2nd round draft pick! Then Glen going have fill roster out with few min players. So get use to this shit.
I think someone up there really wants the Heat to win the championship:
1) Shump injured, Amare punches himself in the face for not playing defense (I wish)
2) Derrick Rose – done
3) Boston down 0-1, Rondo gone for game 2
4) Orlando – Howard done
5) Pacers — somehow lost to the above in game 1
6) I guess the Western Conference is next…put out the injury watch on Dirk, Kobe, Durant, Parker, Paul and company
Did I miss something? Damn.
FWIW – can we have one of your original posts before the playoffs ends in the next 2 games — nothing to lose at this point.
Fuck amare that’s so selfish
Heat in the Final is good for rating, but if think about it, Knicks Jeremy Lin final would off the wall for ratings.
So tell Mr. Stern that.

So this looks like the second straight playoff series that Amar’e will miss because of an injury he suffered outside of the game (i.e. an injury that was his own fault). Yet for some reason, the debate on this blog is always about Carmelo. We need a new 4, plain and simple. Like was said above, hopefully this is some sort of violation of his contract.
Amare leaves locker room with his arm in a sling, but no x-rays and leaves Miami with the team.
Jesus fuck I don’t see how we could be any more snakebit.
Oh, my bad Lady Gaga. I’ll spend the rest of the night drawing up plays and send ’em to Woody in the morning.
Setting strong screens is a death knell against the Heat, especially with our ball handlers. The Heat like to trap. If you set a strong screen, that requires that you stay muddled up with the other four players for a longer period of time. This allows the trapping Heat defense to close the window for a pass before the screener and the dribbler have the spacing to make that pass.

stitches
I know we struggled to score in game 1, so everyone is looking at the offense…but we lost this game defensively. If you looked at the shot chart, the vast majority of Wade’s shots were in the paint, b/c we fell asleep at the wheel on cuts (Landry) or didn’t push him out of the paint and not allow him to get position before he catches the ball (JR). Our close out help defense was also mediocre leaving Miller and Battier open for WIDE open threes.

Amare punch this?
I guess we’ll see more of Novak with Amar’e likely to miss at least one of the next two. Oddly, Novak’s probably been better on D than on offense. While he does stretch the floor, anytime he touches the ball that doesn’t involve shooting it gets pretty ugly- he never makes a quick pass that will lead to an open shot, Even just dumping the ball out to the perimeter takes him forever- really kills any offensive flow.

TOILET!
yeah, I gave it a shot. Z’s second post effort was better than mine, someone else should take the baton for game 3. I don’t think any amount of karma can help when you’ve got Bibby and Novak switching off on LeBron.
