All I have to say and its alot is the knicks need too win this game. i need to see woodson come back and coach this team. i need to see the smirk come off of Lebrons’ face. I need to believe that the Knicks are a complete inept team. i have true belief that the Knicks can still win this series. That is up to the players and being able to sacrifice their egos their old ideas and play as a team with fire under their ass. the knicks can win this gamme, can beat this team, and the knicks can do it because the heat are not that much better than the current injured Knicks team, and that i truely believe and is a fact!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    Doug:
Is STAT going to have to do everything in this game one-handed?

he doesnt use his left that much anyway i believe he will be fine. Hopefully his game will eleavate because it puts a fire in his ass!!!!!!

  3. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

i hope everybody can be here for the start of the greatest comeback in sports history. its been done in every other sport and it will start today

    hahaha that’s a great expression.

  6. d-mar

I guess STAT will have to wave his man by with his right hand instead of his left today

you had me at hello. Ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

Well the sixers have won their playoff series. that means that the knicks can too. ;) its history time today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. johnlocke

    Haha… I wish.
What’s interesting is that it’s just the healthiest teams that have been winning in the East:
Philly over Bulls, Heat over Knicks, Pacers over Magic and Celtics over Hawks (Josh Smith)

and Fields might be able to score the first points on this historic day ;)

  14. max fisher-cohen

They will win this game — I guarantee it (just like the Men’s Wearhouse).

  15. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

Whos says the Knicks cant win. Who says the Knicks dont have the better team. Who called the first time out. The heat. but the real asnswer to the first two questions is the knicks dont believe they do go Ny go Ny Go

  16. er

I’ve picked up on LBJs strategy over the last 3 games it’s to wait until the secon half when melo is tired to to try to score

  17. BigBlueAL

I like what JVG said that he would fine any Heat player a grand if they let Amar’e dribble right lol

  18. babybokchoy

stat’s stitches looked intense – but so professional :D
    CMON GOOD LUCK STITCHES!

  19. ephus

Knicks absorb the first punch from the Heat and come back with a run of their own.

  20. d-mar

Difference between being LeBron and being Melo – LeBron can basically play spectator on the offensive end and bide his time, whereas Melo has to force the issue from the opening whistle

  21. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    max fisher-cohen:
They will win this game — I guarantee it (just like the Men’s Wearhouse).

i back that idea and im not only the president i am also a client (hair clun for men) entrance Donald Trump

  22. Bruno Almeida

see, Amare, if you played last game we could have had a shot to make this a series.

  23. ognyc

    I swore…SWORE I would not watch this game, Knicks….the other ones have been too painful…but I can’t quit you….

  24. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

was That me or was stat just standing their and got a foul called on him

  25. ephus

Now that Stat picked up his second foul, I think we will see Novak and find out if the Knicks are going to run any action to try to get him open today.

  26. johnlocke

Welcome to Melo brickathon part 3….he’s just “missing shots he can make”…so it’s all good folks

  27. BigBlueAL

Oh Jesus screw all of you for replying to my comment. So damn sensitive :-)

  28. johnlocke

If his teammates were better shooters, he wouldn’t miss open jumpers…. .take it to the BASKET Melo….stop bricking mid range jumpers!!

Bruno Almeida: nah, it’s all his teammates fault………………..

  29. johnlocke

Do we really have baron davis guarding Lebron? Woodson wtf..please stop this

  30. ognyc

If Melo is going to chuck like that and hero it up..he’d better hit them J’s

  31. BigBlueAL

    johnlocke:
If his teammates were better shooters, he wouldn’t miss open jumpers…. .take it to the BASKET Melo….stop bricking mid range jumpers!!

He is attacking the rim today though, cant say he is settling for jumpers yet.

  32. BigBlueAL

Believe that jumper by Melo was first points outside of the paint for the Knicks.

  33. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

Stat Novak, Fields, Smith, Davis Starting Lineup in the 2nd. we got the first and break it open in the 3rd to finish them of in the 4th

  34. er

Hes actually done a good job the last two games

    johnlocke:
Do we really have baron davis guarding Lebron? Woodson wtf..please stop this

  35. johnlocke

Can we see a Melo Amare pick and roll with Novak on the side?

Woodson let’s see some more imaginative offensive sets.

  36. BigBlueAL

    er:
    Lol its all love bro

Lol I always say game threads are ok for ridiculous, spur of the moment comments because it is made while watching the game where your emotions get the best of you.

The stupid comments on morning news threads and other non-gameday threads are annoying lol

  37. BigBlueAL

Big stretch here, Knicks with their typical wack lineup to start the 2nd quarter and Heat have both Wade and LBJ on the floor.

  38. cgreene

Can someone explain the lineup that Woodson is using here with both Wade and Lebron in the game for the Heat? Why isn’t Amare in the fucking game?

  39. johnlocke

Woody again insists on playing Carmelo and Amare together… why isn’t amare in there?

  40. BigBlueAL

Shocking Knicks scoreless so far and have been outscored 6-0 in first 3 mins of 2nd quarter with that lineup on the floor.

  41. johnlocke

yeh just thought and wrote that. Makes no damn sense.
His rotations are so damn puzzling.

    cgreene:

  42. johnlocke

Yes…slightly irrational, short-tempered and easily annoyed during game time =)

  43. d-mar

The playoffs have not done wonders for the reputations of Novak and JR. This is why I don’t get why everyone is so depressed about losing them in the off season. I just think they’re both very replaceable assets.

  44. Juany8

    johnlocke:

The fact that Woodson thinks its ok to ever have all of our “big 3″ on the bench shows that maybe he does need to go. It’s not like he’s designed a particularly brilliant offense, and serious how fucking dumb to you have to be to not be able to figure out staggered rotations?

  45. cgreene

Stoudemire is such an idiot. First he should force Bosh towards his right hand on the baseline. Second he commits his third foul. Unreal

  46. johnlocke

Woodson is an idiot… leave Amare in the game…he has 3 fouls, but we can lose the game in this quarter….we have no one making shots and Carmelo is bricking left and right

    cgreene:

  47. bc2k

I swear Field must have done something to Woodson’s family, he really really hates the guy. There is absolutely no energy right now for this lineup, change something up please.

  48. BigBlueAL

Knicks might have a hard time breaking 70 pts today which would mean 3 of the 4 games they wouldve scored 70 pts or less.

  49. JK47

To be fair, JR is a better player than this. He’s never really gotten it going since coming here, but he’s had some really effective seasons and is obviously talented. Novak, I agree– he’s a one-dimensional player.

  50. cgreene

Woodson absolutely deserves to go after this series IMO. I was really high on him especially because I am a believer in stability. No excuse for his rotations w Amare and Melo. No excuse for not trying a zone. No excuse for keeping Amare on the bench here in an elimination game. No excuse for not trying something else besides Bibby. Where has Landry Fields been since his excellent 1st quarter?

  51. Juany8

So frustrating to watch Knicks players get called for the same Ricky tack fouls that the Heat rely on to have a good offense and defense.

  52. Aharon

Anyone have a good streaming link? all the ones on firstrowsports are messed up.

  53. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

wow chandler do u really think shoving joel anthony while we have the ball is a good play. its ok chan chan jackie it up and block some shots.

  54. d-mar

I also don’t get Chandler getting the ball outside the 3 point line and then dribbling and handing the ball to Baron. What is the point of that?

agreed with everything except firing woodson

  56. formido

I love how they showed the timing was totally legit, and they don’t admit they were wrong.

  57. ephus

If the Heat are not going to respect Jorts in the corner, you have to swing the ball and let him take (and make) that shot.

  58. gmoney_nz

Newby to the site although I have read this thread and watched every game this year – can’t watch the game live today but wondering if hte fact our starters (-Landry) are all in the + column means that we are looking like we are winning the match-up between starters……and then i wonder why Novak hasn’t taken a shot? feedback from the faithful please…

  59. ognyc

We want Landry….that just seems wrong, and yet I think…I think its right….

  60. Z

Imagine if this Heat team played in 1994… They’d hold opponents to 6 points a game

  61. johnlocke

Chandler I love him…but he has godawful hands and always looks unprepared to catch passes

  62. bc2k

If I’m Landry Fields I’ll pray that Knicks don’t sign me next season if Woodson still the head coach.

  63. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

Chandler has to find his Jackie Chan!!!!!! Your out of control!!!!! Calm down Chandlerlson. You are letting your emotion take you out of this game. You are hurting your team Chandlerson

  64. Nick C.

I love Chandler but damn he’s really got to control himself better. That T was just childish.

  65. ruruland

Chandler is not playing a great game right now. No one is, but he has to catch the basketball and rebound on the defensive end — those two things are musts.

  66. Juany8

Novak is practically worthless against a team as good as the Heat. They killed Korver last year too, you need more than one credible offensive threat to free up players like Novak, and the Knicks only have more than one threat when Melo and Amare are on the floor, and you can’t play Novak at the 2, not with the total lack of ball handling on this team. It’s why Jr needs to play, he’s one of the few players on the team than can actually dribble under pressure

  67. johnlocke

Guys — we’re making this Heat team look a lot better than they are. Unfortunately, should be easy sailing for them until finals

    Z:

1994 Knicks vs this Heat team played with 1994 rules. Oh my.

  69. d-mar

5 point swing, if Chandler makes the layup, we’re down 3, instead we’re down 8. Good job.

  70. ephus

The KInicks used some cross action to get Melo the ball at the elbow, and he actually caught with space.

  71. ognyc

What do you think the motivation is for the NBA to make all of the New York media market stop watching? The reffing has clearly been a response to a dictate from the league that the Heat must win this year, but to what end?

  72. Juany8

I think fields just showed why he was glued to the bench. He’s still fucking terrible…

  73. Nick C.

Wow Landry with what might have been the first drive and dish of the game for the Knicks. (but yeah that previous pass was beyond awful)

  74. Spree8nyk8

We now interrupt this game in progress to bring you a ft shooting contest.

  75. Juany8

This game is just stupid to watch. . Obviously everyone came to watch free throws

  76. ephus

Harrellson actually handled iso-LBJ to end the quarter. Take your victories where you can find them (they certainly have not been in the bottom line).

  77. Juany8

The heat don’t even have to get into offensive sets, the refs are just parading them there over ANYTHING resembling a flop from the Heat ( and they might be the most bitch flopping team in sports)

  78. d-mar

Boy, JR must have really hit Wade hard, he almost ended up in the 5th row. Should have been a flagrant!

  79. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

f lebron he didnt know how to answer the question about the heat defense because he knows that the defense was run by the refs. smh horrible calls once again. and i thought after the first 8 minutes of the game we would get a fare shake. it all finished when they called the foul on stat. and just to agree with everybody fields is the man.

  80. ognyc

What…you bleeding heart liberal…I say drawing and quartering whilst being forced to watch the decision and whatever that pansy-ass “event” the heat staged when they signed bawling big baby bron, on loop, clockwork orange style!

    d-mar:
Boy, JR must have really hit Wade hard, he almost ended up in the 5th row. Should have been a flagrant!

  81. johnlocke

Jorts has done a good job all series. Hopefully Woodson doesn’t forget about him and not play in in the 2nd half, like last game.

agreed damn wade are you ok did you break something on that fall. you didnt by any chance twist your ankle in that flop

  83. johnlocke

JR is playing aggressive, but really needs to use his head more, in general

    d-mar:

  84. ruruland

LMNYKFAN4LIFE: Jorts having another good game

Needs to do a better job blocking out on the defensive end. But he’s had a couple of nice plays.

  85. johnlocke

Credit to Melo for not settling for jumpers and cutting, attacking etc. That play where Fields waved him off the block, and then drove and passed to him cutting in the lane, was nice. Keep that up Melo. He really just can’t buy a jumper right now though…

  86. Juany8

    johnlocke:
Jorts has done a good job all series. Hopefully Woodson doesn’t forget about him and not play in in the 2nd half, like last game.

Offensively he has but his defensive rotations are terrible compared to Jeffries, Chandler, and even Melo (for all his shooting struggles Anthony is laying it all down on the floor this series, I don’t know that anyone on the court is playing harder than him)

  87. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    jhaelin:
    strawberry fields forever.

i disagree you dont have to say peace to our season they will put it away in the 3rd like i said before and let history begin

  88. johnlocke

I actually agree with something Jon Barry is saying…. Knicks making the Heat look better than they are

  89. ruruland

johnlocke: JR is playing aggressive, but really needs to use his head more, in general

    They’re all reputation calls.

He’s had to create all of his own offense in the series which is why his efficiency is so horrible right now.

I think he’s played quite well within the context of what’s going. He’s gotten to the basket without the benefit of the call. He’s reversed the ball quite a few times. He found AMar’e down low (but Amar’e’s hand caused him to drop)

Defensively, Wade and Lebron are getting every light contact call. You can’t just let them get to their spots.

  90. ruruland

johnlocke: I actually agree with something Jon Barry is saying…. Knicks making the Heat look better than they are

Jon Barry is a moron just like the rest of his family.

All a bunch of bitter misanthropes.

  91. Juany8

An I the only one who thinks the Heat haven’t looked very impressive this series? It really feels like the refs and the Knicks’ own problems are causing them to lose, the Heat are actually having trouble scoring against a defense playing mike Bibby, baron davis, and Novak serious minutes. They only really look good when the refs are giving them cheap trips to the line for being awesome floppers

  92. tenebrous

Fire Dolan? What? The man owns the team. There has to ba a little more constructive way to start these blogs. I could be wrong. Since I was wrong on Knicks sweeping all the heat.

  93. yellowboy90

I just like the fact that he is driving to the lane even though he has not gotten a call. Still he must attack.

  94. tenebrous

Great defense by bibby Davis and Novak wont do anything if the same players can’t do nothing on offense.

  95. ruruland

They’re a great defensive team. That cannot be denied. But the Knicks have to many issues offensively to exploit them.

In the half court they are merely average.

A low-turnover, half-court offense with a strong post or point guard play can beat them.

I think the Lakers, Spurs and possibly the Thunder can beat them.

No one in the east resembles a threat at this point.

  96. Owen

I am sensing JR Smith hasn’t had the best game….

Or am I reading too much into the box score?

  97. ruruland

yellowboy90: I just like the fact that he is driving to the lane even though he has not gotten a call. Still he must attack.

RIght, he’s playing in a much more linear fashion –which is great to see.

If he got a Wade whistle he’d be having a great game.

  98. ruruland

Owen: I am sensing JR Smith hasn’t had the best game….Or am I reading too much into the box score?

    Are you watching the game?

  99. johnlocke

Did either team hit a 3 in that first half? Has that ever happened in a playoff game?

  100. johnlocke

catching up on DVR…grpahic just wnet up

    johnlocke:
Did either team hit a 3 in that first half? Has that ever happened in a playoff game?

  101. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

is it possible to get 16 foul calls in the 2nd guess so. daily news headlines tomorrow Knicks win despite 5 on 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  102. maxwell_3g

jr for landry to start the 3rd, cant hurt??? concerned who will mke shots on our second unit though

  103. d-mar

Boy, Baron Davis is basically useless. Hope he enjoys his final game as a Knick.

  104. Juany8

Hey at least the Knivks last longer than the defending champions! Lol at least in terms of time if not games

  105. johnlocke

Baron…wtf… foul on Lebron, jacked up jumper when we have melo and amare out there…foul on chandler.. jeezus…. Lin on one leg would be better

  106. Juany8

Give a lot of credit to Stoudemire, he’s playing through a lot f pain, and he’s playing by fat his best defense of the series after being pathetic in games 1 and 2

  107. gmoney_nz

Novak is practically worthless against a team as good as the Heat.

that is a tough call – run Novak of a weakside screen while Melo is iso to get the three from the top – or why not play JR at the 2 and Novak at the 3….then we have three offensive threats on the court…it leaves the defense vunerable at the 3 and 4 but we need to score points right?

  108. Juany8

At least the refs have calmed down and are calling a fiat game. For the time being lol

  109. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

Stat is the mother fing MVP of this team. nothing but amore for you Amare

  110. Juany8

van Gunfy is right, the Knivks defense has easily been good enough to beat the Heat. If they could even get a decent offense going, they’d be right in this series. Adding shump and even Lin should help with those problems next year

  111. d-mar

Can we at least give this team a chance next year with a legit PG and see what happens? I’m so sick of hearing over and over from every NBA commentator out there that Melo and STAT just doesn’t work.

  112. ognyc

They don’t…but that doesn’t mean that we should get rid of either, we should put 2 of the 3 out there at all times…add that to a PG and it would be tough to defend…DPOY this year, (highest paid) 6th man of the year next year….

    d-mar:

  113. maxwell_3g

travel???? didnt mike miller just bimp baron to the ground?? and I was hoping i was looking at his knee wrong, but i guess not. looked like a displaced knee cap

  114. er

Omg baron knee looked like crushed cardboard…fuck that’s nasty….poor guy it was a fun run even with his constant bonehead plays

  115. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

it looked like a raisin wow what a trooper hes in not even screaming in pain

  116. Robtachi

It’s okay, this is the next chapter in the resurgence. Toney Douglas with an improbable return to his 3-point sniping ways.

  117. ognyc

NYC is the home of the PG right? Maybe they could get someone from west 4th to play point? its like 2 stops on the A right?

  118. BigBlueAL

Gotta a feeling Melo is going to make sure Knicks win this game. Good to see him finally in a groove.

  119. johnlocke

Playing real well now…love the playmaking. We just can’t go hero ball in the 4th. Need to get amare and Melo both involved somehow.
That three at the end by Lebron hurt. Won’t be easy….let’s gooooo!

    Nick C.:
Melo is insane right now : defending, passing and scoring.

  120. johnlocke

Keep attacking. Don’t fall in love with the J and we should be good Melo

    BigBlueAL:
Gotta a feeling Melo is going to make sure Knicks win this game.Good to see him finally in a groove.

  121. tenebrous

Novak needs to understand that if he goes up he can release the ball or get fauled. So just release the shot.

  122. johnlocke

Fields has to be the worst shooting shooting guard in the league…buzzkill

  123. maxwell_3g

novak should institute the dribble rule. if he needs to dribble, he doesn’t need to shoot it

  124. BigBlueAL

Problem is Fields has been the 2nd best Knick today off the dribble besides Melo.

  125. maxwell_3g

stat can be happy about nthat “block”, but lord his defensive rotation was slow. chalmers got all the way to the rim

  126. johnlocke

These 8 minutes will shape Knicks fans hope for the future w Melo. Step up!

  127. yellowboy90

PnR with STAT and Melo with a flashing Fields at the other high post to create a passing angle in case of the trap.

It’s because he’s so bad the Heat don’t bother trapping him on pick and rolls. They just let him do his thing since its usually going to be pretty bad

  129. maxwell_3g

i know he hasnt shot well, but jr battles. we need players like that in the playoffs

  130. maxwell_3g

the dirty little secret about the heat….. they have never had a real injury and are one freak play away from being very beatable. we need to pull this one out and stay alive, because anything can happen

  131. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

i hope wade is ok for the series cause i would love to see his face when the Knicks beat him in game 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  132. d-mar

    Kikuchiyo:
Obviously, we have to trade Melo now, while his value is up.

And STAT too, for Ariza and Okafor, his career is shot

  133. maxwell_3g

stat, that was just sloppy!!!! the little things matter, especially in games like this

  134. ephus

If you take a look at the replay of how Bosh got free on the cut down the lane, he full extension pushed off.

  135. maxwell_3g

guys, we got to play tough d. we caqnt just put lebron on the line down the stretch

  136. ephus

    maxwell_3g:
stat, that was just sloppy!!!!the little things matter, especially in games like this

Stat can’t really grip the ball with the bandage on his left hand.

  137. Kikuchiyo

    maxwell_3g:
guys, we got to play tough d.we caqnt just put lebron on the line down the stretch

They get your tweets during the game, but I’m not sure they read your posts.

    jk.

  138. Kikuchiyo

It’s obvious that Miami, as usual, has no plan for late 4th quarter offense. This game is winnable.

  139. maxwell_3g

i hate lame technical calls, but how come shump and jr get calls for taunting techs constantly, but no one calls d wade on it when he gets in melo’s face there. i just want some consistency

  140. BigBlueAL

Wade got all ball it looked like but he also was grabbing on to the net with his other hand which couldve been called basket interference no??

  141. d-mar

The only guard in the NBA who could have made that block is Wade, gotta give props for a ridiculous play

  142. ephus

Just saw the replay, and Wade got all body down low in blocking Melo’s finish at the rim. So, it looks like his complaining on the last 3 point play that ‘Melo got paid off on the next possession.

  143. David Crockett

    ephus:
HOW WAS THAT A NO CALL?

That was a good block. The body contact was after the ball was knocked loose. Melo didn’t gripe.

We got a stop on our end.

  144. maxwell_3g

Kikuchiyo: They get your tweets during the game, but I’m not sure they read your posts.

    jk.

i actually have a direct line to jerome jordan on the bench. he passes the messages along

  145. David Crockett

    Owen:
Yep, feels good to hear the Garden going nuts….

Y’know. Outside the first game. Really. The defense has ranged from decent to awesome. Just not enough scoring.

  146. johnlocke

Sick block by wade…he has to be close to the best blocking 2 guard of all time. Damn I hate the heat

  147. ruruland

David Crockett: That was a good block. The body contact was after the ball was knocked loose. Melo didn’t gripe.

We got a stop on our end.

it was probably a clean play though he did go through the body. You’ll never see Wade or Lebron not get a call on something like that.

  148. ephus

    BigBlueAL:
Wade got all ball it looked like but he also was grabbing on to the net with his other hand which couldve been called basket interference no??

Took another look, and Wade’s left hand went through the net. It didn’t effect the play, but technically it was a goaltend.

  149. David Crockett

ruruland: it was probably a clean play though he did go through the body. You’ll never see Wade or Lebron not get a call on something like that.

    Agreed.

  150. BigBlueAL

ephus: Took another look, and Wade’s left hand went through the net.It didn’t effect the play, but technically it was a goaltend.

    Right thats what I thought.

  151. ephus

Okay. So Melo drew the double team, kicked to Smith who drew the hard close out and saw Bibby in the corner for the wide open 3. Best ball movement of the game for the Knicks.

    Ruru smiled?

  152. ruruland

bibby is actually a much better fit on offense with this bunch. Defensively, though, he’s a big downgrade from Davis.

  153. maxwell_3g

ofense/ defense substitutions needed. i think novak may have a dagger in his shorts somewhere. might call on jorts on the defensive end

  154. drewbreez

This group, for all its disappointments, gave us something to cheer in the end. I’m proud to be a Knick fan, even with the terrible acquisitions, the fading stars, the carpetbagger fans invading MSG.

  155. ruruland

    ephus:
Okay.So Melo drew the double team, kicked to Smith who drew the hard close out and saw Bibby in the corner for the wide open 3.Best ball movement of the game for the Knicks.

Melo making shots if forcing the heat to adjsut their defense. That’s how you get open shots.

  156. maxwell_3g

we need a stop!!!! no confusion! no miscommunication!!!! no open 3′s!!! no layups!!

  157. ephus

And that was the worst ball movement of the game for the Knicks, but with the same result. Knicks up by 3.

  158. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

I love it James with all that bravado after his 3 and he is still gonna lose

  159. maxwell_3g

no iso. no hero ball. move the ball on offense. they have to play aggressive and we should get a good shot

  160. ephus

Knicks want to put up their shot with 25 seconds or less left.

    BTW, got the stop.

  161. maxwell_3g

what an awful offensive strategy that was….comon woody…cmon melo. we got to do better than that, despite the results

  162. BigBlueAL

I was afraid thats the shot we were gonna get but it worked out in the end lol

  163. ruruland

Melo finally gets a call and all these fucking pussies start whining. fuck these guys I have to go to Miami

  164. Robtachi

Why is Breen saying that foul call is close? It’s my understanding if you ever make contact with the shooting elbow, it’s a foul.

  165. Nick C.

Not the most creative play but Melo gets to shoot three FTs. And Miss two as I type. Sigh

  166. ruruland

    maxwell_3g:
what an awful offensive strategy that was….comon woody…cmon melo.we got to do better than that, despite the results

    it’s a continuity offense issue.

  167. Owen

I think Battier caught the elbow….

I think Breen was unsure if he caught the elbow or if they called it on the post release contact, which was pretty minimal….

  168. David Crockett

    Okay guys.

    Get a stop.

    That’s what it’s all about.

Miami is driving. Drive and kick. Don’t you doubt it for a second.

  169. The Honorable Cock Jowles

What an awful possession by Wade. That was Jamal Crawford-esque.

  170. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

Cant wait to see the tears from all heat fans after game 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And remember who called it. since the beginning of this game thread with people scoffing at me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  171. maxwell_3g

f dwayne wade. stupid shot. hero ball. the key was stay alive. we have lost 3 players this series and have been without 1 entirely. next game, who knows who gets injured… maybe we get lin back??? my point is they are one injury away from being beatable (look at the bulls). but you got to stay alive

  172. ruruland

that was a lot of fun guys!!!! great to see melo and Amar’e play big together against arguably the best team in the league.

At least that something we can take into the offseason. Fantastic.

  173. Nick C.

Yessss!!! And the defense on Wade by two of the most maligned defenders Landry and Amare!

  174. johnlocke

Amare was fucking huge! Vindicated himself very very well.
Melo had his huge game this series….hope he has another in him.
What’s the word on baron? Def out for season

This hero ball meme stuff is getting totally out of control.

You aren’t going to get wide open shots in that situation — no one on the Knicks was going to allow a 3.

Wade had Stoudemire on his heels he just mishandled the ball- finally a break but guys,

  177. d-mar

I still can’t believe that possession out of the timeout, Melo dribbles and fires up a 3? That’s what was called in the huddle?

But, WE WON A FUCKING PLAYOFF GAME!!!!!!!!

  178. JK47

It makes you wonder what could have been in game 3 if not for the fire extinguisher. Does Linsanity return for game 5 now?

The Knicks may not be a great basketball team, but they are a brilliant soap opera.

  179. johnlocke

    lol. Excellent call out

    Nick C.:
Yessss!!! And the defense on Wade by two of the most maligned defenders Landry and Amare!

  180. BigBlueAL

That might be a career-eneder for Baron. Really good guy and it hurts to see him go down without ever really playing on a great team.

Amar’e was great today and they were finding a few ways to get him the ball…..

As this series wears on, you’re seeing the Knicks get a little more comfortable on offense with ways to get shots —- their are still way too many weaknesses to consistently get good looks….

But I do think there’s an outside chance we can get this back to MSG, and that would be absolutely insane…..

You know what kind of pressure the Heat would face if they lose on Tuesday?

  185. Shad0wF0x

This is the 1st game I watched in this series that wasn’t DVR. I should schedule so that I don’t have work on Wednesday.

  186. johnlocke

Amare said he almost literally cried when he saw barons injury

out for season but not the year its just a dislocated patella not career ending unless their is structurual damage

  188. StatsTeacher

Melo deserves huge credit, with washed up, semi-geriatric players, second rounders, a wounded Amare and Tyson, he pulled the Knicks across the finish line. If Lin doesn’t play Game 5, ready for 40 minutes of Corpseball?

  189. JK47

Does Baron’s injury mean we’re going to see Toney Douglas’ sorry ass out on the floor? I didn’t think it could be possible to DOWNGRADE from Baron Davis, yet here we are.

  190. slovene knick

And then i go to bed(it’s 1:00am here) wearing a goofy smirky smile….finally just happy for the Knicks myself and You guys.

  192. Owen

I agree with Ruru, I think that’s lights out for Baron unfortunately, no way he comes back. That’s a torn acl if I have ever seen one….

Good win, the Heat were terrible from three and the line, but so were we….

It’s nice that we can go into the summer without a bitter taste in our mouths now….

  193. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    ruruland: Seriously

yes ruru i had so much respect for u but if you are a fan you live and die by your words not pop up when your team or player is doing good. second saying at least we can go to the off-season with one playoff win is not a fan speaking. its a person who believes that his player at least made the only contribution tro make this team get one win before the playoffs is over. a real knicks fan would back up his team and never say die!!!!!!!!!!!

  194. New Guy

I am every bit as delirious right now as I was despondent after game 3.

Clearly you can win a title with Carmelo Anthony. ;)

  195. JC Knickfan

Baron Davis – The Knicks later announced the injury as a dislocated right patella

  196. Bison

Melo was good today, and not just at scoring. His passing was better than usual: he fed Amare perfectly on the move a few times, which was good to see.

He still has a ways to go — yes, he does. He won’t be scoring 40 points each and every game; when his shot is off, his passing needs to be even better than it was today. That was what all the great swingmen did to lead their teams to championships.

    But I’m happy for today.

  197. Owen

yes sorry but i believe you come on a knicks site you back up ur players not just a player!!!!!!!! i might gripes with decisions and some plays about my team but i love my team. ive seen this man tear everything up on this team except melo. and when the time was ripe to say yes he played horrible and lost us game 3 he didnt have the _____ to say it!!!!! i dont much like front runners!!!!

  199. JK47

hahaha, at the rate we’re losing players, we may not be able to field a team if we make round 2.

great great win, nice to break the streak, nice for Melo to get a playoff win in NY, nice for Woodson to do the same, and kudos to Amare for coming back and giving it his all.

Not to go all defend Melo but how many great passes to open JR or Fields does he have to make. Are you a bad passer when players you pass it to miss open shots?

  202. johnlocke

Agreed…LMNYKFan4Life, love the enthusiasm and belief in the Knicks, but Melo hasn’t exactly had a great season. Ruruland bore the cross for literally every month this season except December and April when Melo was playing poorly. I may disagree with some of Ruruland’s points, but he definitely adds to the discussion on the board.

    Owen:
    This is a tad strong….

  203. max fisher-cohen

ruruland: I think the Lakers, Spurs and possibly the Thunder can beat them.

Not the Celtics? They fit your criteria. I’d give the Celts a better chance than OKC. OKC has the same problem as NY — all their scoring is at the wings, which allows James, Wade and Battier to defend their best players, which as we’ve seen in this series, one win notwithstanding, is trouble.

  204. johnlocke

Really? dude may have a career ending injury. come on man.

JK47: I almost cry every time I watch Baron play.

  205. max fisher-cohen

Also, I think Memphis would have a GREAT chance against Miami. They blew the Heat out in their one game this season, and their size would create HUGE problems for Miami’s frontline. Conley also has slowly and steadily developed into a very strong, versatile, and smart point guard.

  206. JK47

But the Thunder have Westbrook, who adds a dimension that the Knicks don’t have: dribble penetration. OKC is the #2 offense in the league. They present problems that the Knicks do not.

  207. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

let me give a public apology to all knick fans for my disrespect of a fellow knickerblogger. ruru from the deepness of my soul im sorry!!!!! just been under alotta stress and having problems at home. ruru i was being honest on how i feel but i should have never come at you like that, and for that i apologize. :(

  208. johnlocke

What was encouraging is that he wasn’t draining jumpers all day his shot was off. But he did other things to score, cutting, getting to the line, driving to the basket, etc. That got his confidence and jumper going late.

  209. nicos

Boy, I hope Melo’s got another big game in him on Wednesday- get this back to the garden with the possibility of Lin coming back would be the most exciting thing in the Knicks universe since ’99. Obviously great game for Melo on both ends. Having Amar’e in motion more on offense helped keep Miami from zoning up on Melo’s drives and Melo was just relentless. Also I love Chandler but his head was not in the game- if the Knicks want to have any shot in Miami he’s got to stay on the floor.

  210. BigBlueAL

He miss few cut basket by Amare and Fields, but Melo was feeling it so I give him pass. This where we need Lin get TC and Amare few more looks. I live with JR take alot less shots. It would incredible if Lin come back and plays decent.
Very happy we won also. But 3 miss FT at end, man our Max player really trying give everyone a heart attack

  212. ephus

This game is the reason why I keep saying that — at his best — Melo reminds me of Bernard King. Tonight 7 = 30.

I assume that the Heat will try to deny Melo the ball down in Miami. If Lin cannot go, then Bibby and Smith have to swing the ball so that Melo can catch the ball on back cuts and lobs.

Honestly jk the knicks have a better team than the heat they beat themselves. the only reason the knicks lose is because they dont play together. point being if tyou play as a team and good defense against the heat you can beat them. melo didnt have an amazing game he had a game that he played within himself and used his teamates. amare played an amazing game only because of his injury and the fact that he played better defense than melo. but the knicks can beat the heat that was shown today since i have said since the beginning of the thread.

just to let you know i dont think it would be a bright idea to see lin on the floor next game. he looked ,like he was gonna cry after he saw baron go down. something like that does alot to a mans psyche, when you come back from a knee injury, and are expected to play.

  216. d-mar

How many of you were expecting Wade’s shot to go in, and now we’d be talking about the 3 missed FT’s by Melo and Amare? It just feels like as a Knick fan the worst will always happen, so it was so sweet to see him clang that one.

And BTW, that and one by LeBron was ri-goddamn-diculous.

Game 5, the return of Linsanity!!

  217. David Crockett

jon abbey: Bernard had much better shot selection.

DWTDD is going to have to play some minutes in the Shumpert role — defensive stopper and ball mover.

Agree. Melo also made Battier’s fronting less effective by cutting hard occasionally. That was good too.

  221. ephus

jon abbey: Bernard had much better shot selection.

Bernard virtually never attempted 3 pointers, so their shooting charts are going to look different. Also Bernard had that SWEET baseline turnaround jumper that no one else utilizes.

But the similarity is that both Bernard and Melo can take over the game with mid-range jumper. I wish that Melo had the explosiveness to finish at the rim the way that 1984 Bernard could.

If Lin can run on Wednesday, the Knicks have a puncher’s chance of getting this series back to MSG next weekend.

  222. johnlocke

Yes, he played him well. Lebron was fairly passive on the offense today I think though. But Melo gets huge credit. I expect a much more aggressive Lebron in game 5. Al Trautwig: “I always wondered how the Jeremy Lin story would end. He comes back for game 5, rejuvenates the Knicks and we become the first team to come back, down 0-3. He’s drinking with LMNYKFAN4LIFE is drinking! =)

  223. Bison

yellowboy90: Not to go all defend Melo but how many great passes to open JR or Fields does he have to make. Are you a bad passer when players you pass it to miss open shots?

I know JR stank today. But Melo’s career playoff average is 3.1 assists/game, not much less than today’s 4. He definitely wasn’t surrounded by bad shooters all the time.

  224. Z-man

In a way, this game offers some hope that Melo and Amare can in fact be successful together. JR was a mess on offense, but his D was a big part of this win. Also, the myth about Melo not being a good defender should be put to rest.

Baron has been by and large a huge disappointment this year, but sorry to see him go down like that.

Barring the impossible 0-3 comeback, I am hoping that the Celts lose big time, that would make me very happy.

  225. JC Knickfan

I expect Jeremy Lin to return for Game 5. His camp is optimistic that he’ll be able to play in Miami.

In a way, this game offers some hope that Melo and Amare can in fact be successful together.JR was a mess on offense, but his D was a big part of this win. Also, the myth about Melo not being a good defender should be put to rest.

Baron has been by and large a huge disappointment this year, but sorry to see him go down like that.

Barring the impossible 0-3 comeback, I am hoping that the Celts lose big time, that would make me very happy.

Amen to the Celts losing. If they beat Atlanta, they probably play Philly next. Just not right.

I’m torn. I hate the Celtics but they have the only real shot to stop Miami from reaching the finals and I would rather see Boston go than Miami. Plus Boston loses in the finals while the Heat probably win.

JC Knickfan: Very happy we won also. But 3 miss FT at end, man our Max player really trying give everyone a heart attack

Oddly, I had the opposite experience. Even the late clangs by Melo didn’t give me the feeling that we’d lose. I had this weird confidence that the Knicks would pull it out. That was very strange.

LMNYKFAN4LIFE: rurland you must never ever ever defend the Knicks again!!!! we are gonna win this series and if you don’t believe your not a knicks fan. ruru i use to like u cause at least you stood to ur guns with melo but i see the only way you stick with him is if he has a big game. you were non existent through every thread until melo played good today smh. your not a knicks fan your a melo fan . but hey you can always come on this site if you want to be abused!!!!!!

You’re absolutely right. He’s stated many times he’s a Nuggets fan.

Doesn’t stop him from making good analysis, though, which I personally welcome on this blog.

    Brian Cronin:
I take it I should start the thread on Wednesday? ;)

There will be a full-scale blog revolt if you don’t. :D

LMNYKFAN4LIFE: Honestly jk the knicks have a better team than the heat they beat themselves.

    Ok, just stoppit.

thank god we won, Carmelo was really good down the stretch…

Chandler can’t play this bad if we want to avoid the 4-1.

  231. ess-dog

Great game! Loved Amare coming back and gutting it out on defense. God willing, that can happen in future playoff games. Amare has the talent, and he’s known for saving his real defense for the playoffs. He and Carmelo both have to play huge if we are ever going to do anything.

Also, what the hell? Let’s give _______ some burn again. This could be another great story in the making. If he’s in shape, he could be a big help against an athletic team like the Heat.

I can’t imagine Lin will be ready. Regardless, glad we got the win and shook that playoff monkey loose…. even though we practically blew it with 3 missed free throws in the last minute!!!

yep, another reason it was great to win this one is it would be a shame if Chandler’s season ended with that semi-dud from him.

Hopefully, by Wed. he’ll have fully shaken the flu. I think he’ll have a monster game.

yeah… and to lose this one, when the garden crowd was so insane, that would be a terrible way to end the season.

this game only makes me angrier at Amare, who knows what could have happened if he started game 3 and played with this intensity?

    bummer.

  235. BigBlueAL

Believe Melo became the 3rd Knick ever with multiple 40+ point playoff games (BK did it 5 times, Ewing twice).

I think that’s lights out for Baron unfortunately, no way he comes back. That’s a torn acl if I have ever seen one….

Was Baron coming back even before the injury? Seemed like his career was over either way. (Too bad it has to end in excruciating pain though!)

  237. ephus

I think Baron Davis suffered the same thing as Shaun Livingston. Tough to imagine him coming back, since it took Livingston more than 2 seasons to get back on the floor and, even then, he was a shell of his former self.

This is an opportunity for Dolan to put his millions to work in a non-salary cap clogging way to make the Knicks a more appealing team for veteran’s minimum free agents. Knicks should resign BD to a veteran’s minimum contract for one year, with a one year player option. The Knicks are going to be above the salary cap for the next two years anyway, and re-signing BD will not impinge on any of the Knicks’ exceptions. It will, however, tell veterans that the Knicks will give them security beyond what other teams are willing to do.

Me too. BTW, absolutely loved the game. I’m really looking forward to next year with Lin at the One and the rest of this team. If, by some miracle, we tie the series at 3-3, and Lin is really healthy, I’m OK for game 7. But don’t even think about mortgaging our promising future with a premature Lin. It’s like deficit spending–fool’s gold.

    johnlocke:
Melo: “I look forward to Lin rejoining the team — next season”

  239. daJudge

ephus—That’s a really interesting way to leverage money with no impact on the salary cap. There must be other creative ways. particularly in NYC. As much as folks are down on Dolan, he will spend freely, if not wisely.

Shaun Livingston tore everything you can possibly tear in his knee. Baron’s isn’t as bad.

    I agree
In the game threads I join to feel a kinship of cheering the Knicks with everyone
While I like the MELo analysis from the Nuggets days I am a Knicks fan first before a MELo fan

It is a good idea, but it would cost the Knicks a roster spot, which are kind of valuable (especially with a bunch of injury prone players).

More likely, Baron would get a desk job next to Trutwig and Hahn, or maybe an assistant coach position, depending on who the head coach is. (I’ve thought for a while now that BD would be a good coach– but I’m not sure how much of his heart is in basketball. He may want to move onto other things sooner rather than later).
