All I have to say and its alot is the knicks need too win this game. i need to see woodson come back and coach this team. i need to see the smirk come off of Lebrons’ face. I need to believe that the Knicks are a complete inept team. i have true belief that the Knicks can still win this series. That is up to the players and being able to sacrifice their egos their old ideas and play as a team with fire under their ass. the knicks can win this gamme, can beat this team, and the knicks can do it because the heat are not that much better than the current injured Knicks team, and that i truely believe and is a fact!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The playoffs have not done wonders for the reputations of Novak and JR. This is why I don’t get why everyone is so depressed about losing them in the off season. I just think they’re both very replaceable assets.
The fact that Woodson thinks its ok to ever have all of our “big 3″ on the bench shows that maybe he does need to go. It’s not like he’s designed a particularly brilliant offense, and serious how fucking dumb to you have to be to not be able to figure out staggered rotations?

To be fair, JR is a better player than this. He’s never really gotten it going since coming here, but he’s had some really effective seasons and is obviously talented. Novak, I agree– he’s a one-dimensional player.
Woodson absolutely deserves to go after this series IMO. I was really high on him especially because I am a believer in stability. No excuse for his rotations w Amare and Melo. No excuse for not trying a zone. No excuse for keeping Amare on the bench here in an elimination game. No excuse for not trying something else besides Bibby. Where has Landry Fields been since his excellent 1st quarter?

Chandler is not playing a great game right now. No one is, but he has to catch the basketball and rebound on the defensive end — those two things are musts.
Novak is practically worthless against a team as good as the Heat. They killed Korver last year too, you need more than one credible offensive threat to free up players like Novak, and the Knicks only have more than one threat when Melo and Amare are on the floor, and you can’t play Novak at the 2, not with the total lack of ball handling on this team. It’s why Jr needs to play, he’s one of the few players on the team than can actually dribble under pressure

Credit to Melo for not settling for jumpers and cutting, attacking etc. That play where Fields waved him off the block, and then drove and passed to him cutting in the lane, was nice. Keep that up Melo. He really just can’t buy a jumper right now though…
Offensively he has but his defensive rotations are terrible compared to Jeffries, Chandler, and even Melo (for all his shooting struggles Anthony is laying it all down on the floor this series, I don’t know that anyone on the court is playing harder than him)

He’s had to create all of his own offense in the series which is why his efficiency is so horrible right now.
I think he’s played quite well within the context of what’s going. He’s gotten to the basket without the benefit of the call. He’s reversed the ball quite a few times. He found AMar’e down low (but Amar’e's hand caused him to drop)
Defensively, Wade and Lebron are getting every light contact call. You can’t just let them get to their spots.

An I the only one who thinks the Heat haven’t looked very impressive this series? It really feels like the refs and the Knicks’ own problems are causing them to lose, the Heat are actually having trouble scoring against a defense playing mike Bibby, baron davis, and Novak serious minutes. They only really look good when the refs are giving them cheap trips to the line for being awesome floppers

Great defense by bibby Davis and Novak wont do anything if the same players can’t do nothing on offense.
They’re a great defensive team. That cannot be denied. But the Knicks have to many issues offensively to exploit them.
In the half court they are merely average.
A low-turnover, half-court offense with a strong post or point guard play can beat them.
I think the Lakers, Spurs and possibly the Thunder can beat them.
No one in the east resembles a threat at this point.

van Gunfy is right, the Knivks defense has easily been good enough to beat the Heat. If they could even get a decent offense going, they’d be right in this series. Adding shump and even Lin should help with those problems next year

Just saw the replay, and Wade got all body down low in blocking Melo’s finish at the rim. So, it looks like his complaining on the last 3 point play that ‘Melo got paid off on the next possession.
That was a good block. The body contact was after the ball was knocked loose. Melo didn’t gripe.

Melo was good today, and not just at scoring. His passing was better than usual: he fed Amare perfectly on the move a few times, which was good to see.
He still has a ways to go — yes, he does. He won’t be scoring 40 points each and every game; when his shot is off, his passing needs to be even better than it was today. That was what all the great swingmen did to lead their teams to championships.
But I’m happy for today.

Agreed…LMNYKFan4Life, love the enthusiasm and belief in the Knicks, but Melo hasn’t exactly had a great season. Ruruland bore the cross for literally every month this season except December and April when Melo was playing poorly. I may disagree with some of Ruruland’s points, but he definitely adds to the discussion on the board.
Not the Celtics? They fit your criteria. I’d give the Celts a better chance than OKC. OKC has the same problem as NY — all their scoring is at the wings, which allows James, Wade and Battier to defend their best players, which as we’ve seen in this series, one win notwithstanding, is trouble.

Also, I think Memphis would have a GREAT chance against Miami. They blew the Heat out in their one game this season, and their size would create HUGE problems for Miami’s frontline. Conley also has slowly and steadily developed into a very strong, versatile, and smart point guard.
But the Thunder have Westbrook, who adds a dimension that the Knicks don’t have: dribble penetration. OKC is the #2 offense in the league. They present problems that the Knicks do not.

What was encouraging is that he wasn’t draining jumpers all day his shot was off. But he did other things to score, cutting, getting to the line, driving to the basket, etc. That got his confidence and jumper going late.
Boy, I hope Melo’s got another big game in him on Wednesday- get this back to the garden with the possibility of Lin coming back would be the most exciting thing in the Knicks universe since ’99. Obviously great game for Melo on both ends. Having Amar’e in motion more on offense helped keep Miami from zoning up on Melo’s drives and Melo was just relentless. Also I love Chandler but his head was not in the game- if the Knicks want to have any shot in Miami he’s got to stay on the floor.

I assume that the Heat will try to deny Melo the ball down in Miami. If Lin cannot go, then Bibby and Smith have to swing the ball so that Melo can catch the ball on back cuts and lobs.
Honestly jk the knicks have a better team than the heat they beat themselves. the only reason the knicks lose is because they dont play together. point being if tyou play as a team and good defense against the heat you can beat them. melo didnt have an amazing game he had a game that he played within himself and used his teamates. amare played an amazing game only because of his injury and the fact that he played better defense than melo. but the knicks can beat the heat that was shown today since i have said since the beginning of the thread.

just to let you know i dont think it would be a bright idea to see lin on the floor next game. he looked ,like he was gonna cry after he saw baron go down. something like that does alot to a mans psyche, when you come back from a knee injury, and are expected to play.

Agree. Melo also made Battier’s fronting less effective by cutting hard occasionally. That was good too.
Bernard virtually never attempted 3 pointers, so their shooting charts are going to look different. Also Bernard had that SWEET baseline turnaround jumper that no one else utilizes.
But the similarity is that both Bernard and Melo can take over the game with mid-range jumper. I wish that Melo had the explosiveness to finish at the rim the way that 1984 Bernard could.
If Lin can run on Wednesday, the Knicks have a puncher’s chance of getting this series back to MSG next weekend.
Yes, he played him well. Lebron was fairly passive on the offense today I think though. But Melo gets huge credit. I expect a much more aggressive Lebron in game 5. I know JR stank today. But Melo’s career playoff average is 3.1 assists/game, not much less than today’s 4. He definitely wasn’t surrounded by bad shooters all the time.
In a way, this game offers some hope that Melo and Amare can in fact be successful together. JR was a mess on offense, but his D was a big part of this win. Also, the myth about Melo not being a good defender should be put to rest.
Baron has been by and large a huge disappointment this year, but sorry to see him go down like that.
Barring the impossible 0-3 comeback, I am hoping that the Celts lose big time, that would make me very happy.

I’m torn. I hate the Celtics but they have the only real shot to stop Miami from reaching the finals and I would rather see Boston go than Miami. Plus Boston loses in the finals while the Heat probably win.

Oddly, I had the opposite experience. Even the late clangs by Melo didn’t give me the feeling that we’d lose. I had this weird confidence that the Knicks would pull it out. That was very strange.

Great game! Loved Amare coming back and gutting it out on defense. God willing, that can happen in future playoff games. Amare has the talent, and he’s known for saving his real defense for the playoffs. He and Carmelo both have to play huge if we are ever going to do anything.
Also, what the hell? Let’s give _______ some burn again. This could be another great story in the making. If he’s in shape, he could be a big help against an athletic team like the Heat.

I think Baron Davis suffered the same thing as Shaun Livingston. Tough to imagine him coming back, since it took Livingston more than 2 seasons to get back on the floor and, even then, he was a shell of his former self.
This is an opportunity for Dolan to put his millions to work in a non-salary cap clogging way to make the Knicks a more appealing team for veteran’s minimum free agents. Knicks should resign BD to a veteran’s minimum contract for one year, with a one year player option. The Knicks are going to be above the salary cap for the next two years anyway, and re-signing BD will not impinge on any of the Knicks’ exceptions. It will, however, tell veterans that the Knicks will give them security beyond what other teams are willing to do.

It is a good idea, but it would cost the Knicks a roster spot, which are kind of valuable (especially with a bunch of injury prone players).
More likely, Baron would get a desk job next to Trutwig and Hahn, or maybe an assistant coach position, depending on who the head coach is. (I’ve thought for a while now that BD would be a good coach– but I’m not sure how much of his heart is in basketball. He may want to move onto other things sooner rather than later).
