2012 Game Thread: New York vs. Denver

An interesting game tonight as New York (6-9) host Denver (11-5).  Denver is off to a great start thanks to a very strong showing on offense (3rd in offensive rating at 107.7) and a solid if not dominate defense (15th at 10.2).  The Knicks meanwhile continue their struggle to find any fluidity on offense. New York has  fallen to 24th in offensive rating (98.8).  The lone bright spot for New York is the better than average team defense (11th at 101.1).

While many people will focus on Anthony vs. Gallanari, I think the far more interesting and important match up is Shumpert vs. Lawson.  Shumpert is a streaky shooter, somewhat turnover prone, and doesn’t always make the best decisions on the break.  Having said that he is a tough defender. He plays passing lanes very well and he keep pressure on the ball.  I think the key to disrupting the Denver offense starts with making things difficult for Ty Lawson (efg% 50.8).  Forcing Lawson into bad shots while cutting off passing lanes is the best way to slow down Denver’s offense.

Denver is somewhat foul prone (21st in the NBA in personal fouls).  New York  might want to try drawing contact and earning points at the line, rather than taking bad three point shots.

Your in game thoughts here.
Your post game rants later.

call me stupid, but i have a feeling the knicks come out on top today. At some point the universe has to balance in their shooting favor.

anyone have a link for the game?

I think it is on NBA TV tonight, so the Time Warner MSG fued–if it is still going on–should not stop you from watching the game, unless it is blacked out in NYC area. I’m in DC so I don’t know.

  3. llcoolbp

i live in new orleans, don’t have nba tv, I have league pass braodband, but of course because the game is on nba tv, it’s blacked out on league pass.

Melo might shoot 50 times tonight. hopefully he shoots near 50%

ijust hope the rest of the team plzys within itself

…stupid. This could be a blowout.

I don’t think it’s blacked out on my League Pass Broadband, but I’m in Canada so we might have different rules.

duck try kora tv the last link when u get to the knicks b ball game

i wont call u stupid just optimistic wish the knicks believe as much as u do they need confidence

  9. cgreene

At the game tonight, folks (sans prego wife). If u see someone charge the court after another Lawson steal and uncontested layup that’s me. She may or may not bail me out.

  10. Jake S.

Why doesn’t Landry Fields take the ball to the basket more consistently? He always seems to have success doing so.

  11. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    llcoolbp:
thanks, the kora tv link is working now. Mozgov looking good against the knicks

no prob that sit always works cause it has so many links and all free

    xduckshoex:
I thought ball movement wasn’t supposed to work because everybody but Melo sucked?

wow i guess it works with a bit of sarcasm of course it works they just needed confidence

  13. latke

Early passing, and this time we’re making some shots. Carmelo still takes a dumb shot with time left on the shot clock. Let’s see if the ball movement continues.

  14. BigBlueAL

Nuggets playing 4th game in 5 days. They have been prone this season to having some bad offensive games and they are missing both of their SG’s tonight. Knicks could win this game strictly by playing solid defense entire game.

  15. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

it wasnt td it was melo at that point he should have passed alot sooner and rolled drawn the defender away

  16. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

wow great d on nene by jorts td cant shout with a scope and no wind with the target two feet away smh

  17. Jake S.

Can we stop with Bill F-ing Walker and Toney Douglas? How badly does one have to play before they take a seat on the bench? They don’t even want to TRY Novak?

  18. llcoolbp

TD is obviously not right. It’s affecting his confidence and defense as well. There is no way a player falls this fast at his age. It has to be the shoulder. Fields, STAT, and Melo, however, no explanation.

  19. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

agreed with novak and bibby at least makes the rite decisions and camn some what shoot smh jake

  20. BigBlueAL

Nuggets shooting horribly so far. Keep them off the FT line and Knicks will be in good shape tonight.

but they are moving the ball great though thats what the knicks should look like but better

  22. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

isee what the team is doing take two dribbles pass the ball to the next iopen man great scheme for now

  23. xduckshoex

Part of the problem with the pick and roll game with Amare is the lack of contact on screens. It can be hard to tell if the guards just suck at setting up their man to run into it or if Amare sets weak screens or both, but something definitely needs to improve there.

  24. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    Z:
We need to trade Bill Walker at halftime, while his stock is high.

wow now thats a great qoute lol smh

  25. latke

Man, Shumpert already with six assists. Lots of movement, and guys are taking shots when they’re open. Hallelujah.

  26. Thomas B. Post author

    LMNYKFAN4LIFE:

That’s what they always do when Melo is on the bench; it’s just that so far the shots are going in.

  27. d-mar

It’s stupid for Breen to say Melo should be watching the Knicks move the ball. They’re making open 3’s after one or two passes, has little to do with ball movement.

  28. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    ess-dog:
    Damn, 21 bench points already??

    Shooting 55% from the field???

    Who are these guys?

they are just playing more aggresive look at shump he just looked like mike lol

  29. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    ess-dog:
I sure would like a guy like Brewer on this team…. (WINK)

i wouldnt never again smh i like fields and sump ten times better ill even take walker of today lol

  30. Mulligan

This quarter makes a compelling case for compelling bench play/support as the difference. Kind of amazing that the Knicks played so well w. just stat on the court and he didn’t even score much (although he looked solid defensively)

  31. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    latke:
Has MDA been reading this board? Takes STAT out as soon as he puts Melo in.

its a great idea makes the game simple no melo iso and try to make plays for amare at the same time and no defensive liabilities

  32. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

now thats the best ive seen the knicks play all year they looked great not many mistakes and they really played great defense against the best offense in the league and over 50 in a half against the tenthe best defense in the league wow great they need this wooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww

  33. rohank

    1) Who are these guys and what have they done with the Knicks???

    2) Great ball movement before Melo comes in. Usually I agree with those who say not to blame Melo for EVERYTHING, but in this case, Melo comes back in and takes a quick shot. Then on the next play, the other 4 knicks play keep-away from him to keep the ball moving. Then Melo turns into a whiny bitch and doesn’t play defense. WTF?

  37. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

asa a matter of fact people who have been watching the knicks play this year tell me what half in this year the knicks have played better in a complete game setting meaning offense and d

  38. Z

I sure would like a guy like Brewer on this team…. (WINK)

Wait, is this the Brewer we had for about 10 minutes after the Melo trade?? (honestly, there are so many Brewers in the league, I never was quite sure which one we had…)

  39. BigBlueAL

Jake S.: I’m with you! If you’re not on some kind of psychotropic substance, I find your enthusiasm downright moving.

You think he and tenebrous smoke the same thing :-)

Jake S.: I’m with you! If you’re not on some kind of psychotropic substance, I find your enthusiasm downright moving.

how cant u be enthusiastic; everything we’ve been discussing is coming true, ball movement, bench play, melo stopping the ball, amare playing better d, td coming alive, and look how we are beating the one of the better teams in the NBA. i just hope it starts a new trend with the knicks

  41. d-mar

I thought that was the best half STAT has played in quite a while. Took good shots and played very active D (3 steals!) It also shows how important it is for bench players like Walker and Douglas to actually make shots.

  42. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

what the fuck is this its like the knicks body got taken over by the monsters from space jams

  43. TheXman

I was surprised when checking the scores, that NY was up for 8. I turned it on for the 2nd half, immediate 6-0 run. Lol this team is an absolute joke, especially when watching ex-Knicks tear them up.

  44. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    BigBlueAL:
I really hope Knicks dont blow this game.

Oh, so it’s your fault then.

  46. Droidz1979

Knicks comeback on the way! It was actually a bad pass that Shump saved out there.. Nice effort by Stat too

  47. The Honorable Cock Jowles

Look at how many “garbage buckets” Chandler gets. You know how few centers can play the way he does at the efficiency he does?

  48. llcoolbp

melo has to be hurting. If that’s the case, he needs to pass, needs to be a decoy. No excuse for forcing shots. I have defended him in the past, but this is getting ridiculous.

  49. rohank

Glad to see the fans getting on Melo’s case. We should start a chant at the Garden: “MOVE THE BALL” “MOVE THE BALL”

  50. Droidz1979

Melo’s wrist seems to be taped to the bone.. he shouldn’t be forcing his shots or try to play thru it if it drags the team down. Maybe he should stick to passing the damn ball only

  51. TheXman

Felton, Gallo then signing Tyson Chandler with Amare, would not have been a bad team. That’s all.

  52. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

i don’t know what to say about that quarter but hey they were moving the ball alot better and played decent d nuggs shots were going in and they had some great ball movement not just good they got the ball deep in the paint and that creates better results

  53. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

i dont care what anybody says we are winning this game……………… and im being serious and im not taking any drugs

  54. d-mar

If I did a shot for every time Mike Breen says “ball movement” I’d be in the emergency room. The problem isn’t always ball movement, it’s really stupid passes and turnovers that’s killing them right now.

  55. BigBlueAL

Missing rim on open 3pters, falling down while dribbling for no reason. These are the 2012 Knicks.

  56. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    shuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmppppppppppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  57. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

shump is unconcious today love him shumpo for rookie of the year most definatly shumpo for rookie of the year

  58. Droidz1979

I’d say Chandler’s worth every penny were paying him for his hustle.. if only we have a legit point guard that could distribute the ball well and make plays. Am crossing my fingers that it would be Baron D but that probably is a big if..

  59. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

    llcoolbp:
god, chandler is such a warrior. I wish everyone played as tough as him.

hes made some bone head plays today on both sides though smh but he is a warrior i would give him the worst grade today because he hasn’t played constant other than td of course smh

  60. Juany8

Imagine if we hadn’t drafted Shumpert. He’s the only healthy guard on our team capable of defending and making open shots.

  61. TheXman

all the positive offensive plays have been without Amare and Melo, it’s like we need them to get out of the fuck away in order to get a high% offensive play. That pick and roll with Iman and Chandler, the drive by Landry are good examples.

  62. BigBlueAL

    llcoolbp:
if this is what it takes to get dantoni fired, i’m in.

Its D’Antoni’s fault this quarter the Knicks cant even hit rim on wide open 3pters????

  63. latke

That was not a foul. Nene backtracked with his arms straight up and Amare just threw the ball up. Fortunately, the tech turned what might have been a layup into a stop.

  64. Juany8

Let’s be honest guys, Carmelo can’t make a shot right now and he’s made some dumb mistakes but he’s been sick in the 4th quarter, basically no 20 footers off iso’s, all attacking and ball movement

  65. TheXman

Irony is that we traded for Harrington’s contract to sign a “star” like Amare, now getting burned by Harrington…burned bad.

  66. Z

The guy wearing #7 with the headband and the perpetually goofy grin on his face reminds me a lot of Carmelo Anthony… Welcome back to NY Al.

  67. LMNYKFAN4LIFE

we are going to win this game damn it this feels like game 7 in the finals we are going to win this game

  68. BigBlueAL

    Z:
I hate that Carmelo Anthony is going to be praised for that shot.

In fairness, he has hit his last 4 shots in a row and assisted on Fields’ dunk and made the pass that lead to Amar’e getting his FT’s.

  69. Juany8

Z you want him to pass with 2 seconds left? Really? Can you imagine not getting off a shot in that scenario?

  70. Droidz1979

Nice shot Al! don’t burn us thought in the extra period as it would be the best time to hang unto the rim and hit the backboard the way you used to do it back in the Knicks then.

  71. ruruland

    Droidz1979: Clutch shot by MELO!

He should have passed it. The Knicks should have gotten a much better shot there. Shumpert jump shots are money.

melo still sucks despite this lucky 4th quarter.

  72. Mike R

Ha while it is a big game and a game we need to win to right the ship its definitely not game 7 of the finals

  73. ruruland

BigBlueAL: In fairness, he has hit his last 4 shots in a row and assisted on Fields’ dunk and made the pass that lead to Amar’e getting his FT’s.

    Blah blah

  74. ruruland

Z: I knew it would take less than 2 minutes for you to respond to that.

I’m with you man. I’m on your side.

  75. ess-dog

See that was a great shot by Melo. All we Kbloggers ask is that he get a little spacing before shooting. That was nice.

  76. TheXman

Stat has really been non-existent, he’s been terrible without a true point guard it seems. He can score points in iso-situations because he usually turns it over, he’s also not making his jumpshots. However, if he just rebounds and defends I’m fine with that.

  77. ruruland

TheXman: I don’t mind that open 3 point shot by Melo, great he made it.

First good shot of the night for Melo. Bravo. Still wish Walker was in though Melo is killing this team.

  78. Z

ruruland: I’m with you man. I’m on your side.

Honestly, I don’t mean to be a jerk here. it’s just been a frustrating game, watching Anthony chuck and chuck while Galinari and Mozgov look like they players we dreamed they’d become at the start of last year. Then for Anthony to hit that shot to have the “non-haters” come out of the woodwork compounded my frustration.

But, of course, I’m glad we’re in OT, and I ole we win (and I’m happy if Carmelo makes it happen)

  79. Droidz1979

Melo almost forced that one though.. hope he doesn’t overdo it and lose this game in the process

  80. Z

I just don’t understand this: every time Anthony attacks the basket great things happen. 70% of the time he shoots a jumper bad things happen. So why doesn’t he drive it every time down??

  81. ruruland

Z: Honestly, I don’t mean to be a jerk here. it’s just been a frustrating game, watching Anthony chuck and chuck while Galinari and Mozgov look like they players we dreamed they’d become at the start of last year. Dude, c’mon, we’re all Melo-haters here, or at least the intilligent ones are.

The Knicks don’t deserve to win this game. There’s no reason for you to feel good about this game, not with Melo chucking like his normal self. he just happened to make more chucks than he normally does. This team would be so much better without the cancer, but we all know that.

  83. TheXman

Thomas B.: Melo will hold it for 8.9, then shoot. Hope he makes it.

or fuck up, just have gallo make a quick J and end this misery, this is pathetic. Knicks have no chance without Chandler in the 2nd OT anyways.

  84. d-mar

Does D’Antoni ever draw up a play out of a timeout? Why does he even talk to them, it just ends up give Melo the ball and stand around. No screens, no picks, nothing.

  85. Z

ruruland: Melo chucking like his normal self. he just happened to make more chucks than he normally does. This team would be so much better without the cancer, but we all know that.

I don’t really understand your sarcasm here. He was 3-17 at one point today.

  86. TheXman

HAHAHA FUCKING MELO, WHAT A JOKE TRYING TO HERO BALL IT TO THE PLAYOFFS WE’LL SEE HOW THAT GOES

David Lee and GALLO WOULD BE BETTER THAN THIS SHIT

ok let me try this: “Ooh, it’s friggin’ sweet how Melo drained more than ONE THIRD of his shots. Those are really hard shots to make too. Oh, and several of them were ‘clutch’. I wish Dolan could somehow pay him more than he makes, cause ya know, he’s THAT good.”

  88. TheXman

Wait, we don’t get a draft pick right if we miss the playoffs? Let me guess, does it go to THE KNUGGETS? HAHAHAHA FUCK DOLAN

  89. TheXman

    KnicksFanInVA:
STAT was a leader last year. How the hell did he turn into Melo’s bitch?

he can’t take Nene 1-on-1, his iso-game is worse than Melo’s, live and by the Melo hero ball!

  90. rohank

    ruruland: Oh my god.

    It’s really this bad.

Ruruland, I thought your comments on Melo were fair at first, but now you’re defending him to a fault. What you aren’t reading in Z’s comment is that Melo had other shooters open and still did his usual ball-hog/chucker thing. It just happened to go in. In isolation (pun intended), it’s still a bad shot when a better one was available.

  91. d-mar

I really don’t mind watching Gallinari have a great game, but watching Al Buckets prance up and down the court was truly painful.

  92. rohank

I know most people here don’t like the term “Knuggets”, but it’s actually pretty scary. The following players all have ties to the Knicks (some looser than others):

    Gallo
    W. Chandler (RFA)
    Mozgov
    Brewer
    Harrington
Nene (drafted by NY @#7 in 02)
Lawson (many thought should be drafted by NY in ’09)
Miller (almost came to NY in FA)
Fernandez (almost came to NY via trade – rumors that he requested a trade to here (i might be making that last part up))
Faried (some (few?) thought should be drafted by NY in ’11 (tho I prefer Shump Shump)

  93. Z

    d-mar:

I feel the opposite. Harrington was a stop gap– basically just Jamal Crawford but one less year of contract to get to a new era faster. Gallo was our building block for that new era. He carried our hopes and dreams that he would develop into a primary option. And he has. It hurts really bad right now.

  94. TheXman

Good point on Lawson, we drafted Jordan Hill instead (could’ve drafted Jennings, who didn’t have a bad last game if I remember correctly). Then we shipped off Jordan Hill in hopes to get 2 Max star players. Pieces of our core along with that draft pick had to be shipped off for Melo. Good luck, good game.

As you can see with the Knuggets, you can build a team with depth. They don’t have fake stars who earn max money.

  95. Z

The Krockets. (Jared Jeffries trade, 2010 (but at least we have Jeffries back!))

  96. Z

Jesus, the quick reaction can’t come fast enough. I need me some quick reaction. A shot of Cavan to take the sting out…

  97. TheXman

After performances and losses such as these, the Melo trade will continue to haunt us over what could’ve been if we had stayed pat with our hand. We would’ve had a decent point guard in Felton with young pieces such as Gallo (and maybe Wilson Chandler if resigned). We would’ve still had Shumpert (as we likely would’ve stayed as the 7th seed or the 8th seed) and keep our draft picks for next year and the year after the next. In addition, we would’ve had 2nd round draft picks that Walsh was able to obtain from the David Lee trade.

We could’ve signed Tyson Chandler (which I guess would not allow us from keeping Wilson, correct). Overall, that’s a pretty decent core of a team. Maybe we don’t have shot at a title, but at least we won’t be middling with hero fucking Melo ball. And you don’t have a shot at the title if you can’t even make the playoffs with hero Melo ball.

  98. rohank

Yeah. My point was, the Knuggets are essentially an alternative universe for the Knicks

  99. TheXman

Z: The Krockets. (Jared Jeffries trade, 2010 (but at least we have Jeffries back!))

What happened here again? Was this when we traded Jeffries and Jordan Hill for Tmac? We had to give away our 2013 first round draft pick? Jeezus christ.

  100. rohank

TheXman: What happened here again? Was this when we traded Jeffries and Jordan Hill for Tmac?We had to give away our 2013 first round draft pick?Jeezus christ.

    2012 pick

  101. TheXman

I think we overreacted with trying to clear cap space, it wasn’t Walsh’s fault he had to shoot for the stars. He was just left with total shit from Isiah who mired the team in capspace hell. If you look at every dumbfounded move/trade/signing by Isiah the repercussions were felt for years. Signing Curry we had to give away draft picks.

Signing Jeffries and Jerome James, we had to attach young pieces to sell those contracts. We were really fucked to begin with. It’s like the Knick management created an economic bubble, which was not sustainable, the only way for a correction is a recession to leverage all the bad debt. In this case, the bad debt from all the shit contracts/players that Isiah signed. Instead of just correcting and waiting for the debt to just be written off, we went for the bail out option which was selling all out future and young pieces off. Bailing ourselves will just cause the inevitable crash, as we will likely see right now. We don’t have enough depth or talent, we will likely need to wait until Amare and Melo just retire then rebuild through the draft.

  102. KnicksFanInVA

So we’re looking at another decade? Oye.

I think we overreacted with trying to clear cap space, it wasn’t Walsh’s fault he had to shoot for the stars. He was just left with total shit from Isiah who mired the team in capspace hell.If you look at every dumbfounded move/trade/signing by Isiah the repercussions were felt for years.Signing Curry we had to give away draft picks.

Signing Jeffries and Jerome James, we had to attach young pieces to sell those contracts. We were really fucked to begin with. It’s like the Knick management created an economic bubble, which was not sustainable, the only way for a correction is a recession to leverage all the bad debt.In this case, the bad debt from all the shit contracts/players that Isiah signed.Instead of just correcting and waiting for the debt to just be written off, we went for the bail out option which was selling all out future and young pieces off.Bailing ourselves will just cause the inevitable crash, as we will likely see right now.We don’t have enough depth or talent, we will likely need to wait until Amare and Melo just retire then rebuild through the draft.

    Ratchet down expectations
A decade of terrible knicks teams. Now, a half decade of lower echelon mediocrity.
At least we know what we are. If it gets better from here, it’s all gravy.

    TheXman:
After performances and losses such as these, the Melo trade will continue to haunt us over what could’ve been if we had stayed pat with our hand.We would’ve had a decent point guard in Felton with young pieces such as Gallo (and maybe Wilson Chandler if resigned). We would’ve still had Shumpert (as we likely would’ve stayed as the 7th seed or the 8th seed) and keep our draft picks for next year and the year after the next.In addition, we would’ve had 2nd round draft picks that Walsh was able to obtain from the David Lee trade.

We could’ve signed Tyson Chandler (which I guess would not allow us from keeping Wilson, correct).Overall, that’s a pretty decent core of a team.Maybe we don’t have shot at a title, but at least we won’t be middling with hero fucking Melo ball. And you don’t have a shot at the title if you can’t even make the playoffs with hero Melo ball.

it could have been much better than that if dolan just followed walsh’s plan.

they should have played chicken with denver/melo at the deadline. if he forced his way to nj, fine. if denver had reasonable expectations in a trade, fine too.

they could have stuck with the pre deadline team adding shumpert and jorts through the draft and then decide whether to keep or move chandler and 10-15 million in cap space depending on what to do with chandler. they would have another 10-12 million spot opening at the end of this season when turiaf and felton expired.

you walsh could have made a trade for paul, howard or d-will with all those assets and picks?

but mr impulsive recovering addict had to get his new toy and he needed it now, damn it!

the plan was perfect and the execution was fine until jimmy d screwed the pooch.

walsh broke down the team as best as he could with all the albatrosses isiah hung around his neck. he opened room for 2 legit stars and played for the best 2 players available (lebron and wade) but lebron was too yellow to take the historic challenge.

he moved to plan b with amar’e and filled out the roster with felton and mozgov. amar’e was second team all nba and deservedly so. felton played above expectations. the team was an above .500 team with young improving players a first and a second pick (shumpert and jorts) with big cap space coming after the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

if denver wanted to be reasonable, walsh would have sat chilly til the deadline and waited for the cheapest price for melo. if he could
have landed him at a reasonable price and not had to dismantle his team, i’m sure he would have.

if not, he had all those assets and big cap space after 2011 and 20012 seasons.

however, the recovering addict prematurely ejaculated all over us.

How do you say outplayed in Italian?

Was at the game. Awesome game. And I can report it’s just as frustrating watching Melo in person. He hit some great shots at the end of regulation, got to give him credit for that, but he just strangles an offense.

I know its the cardinal sin for a sports fan but I was feeling some seriously mixed emotions watching Mozgov (OBEY!!!!), Gallinari, and Lawson, who in my own mind we drafted three years ago.

Tyson Chandler is the best Knick by a long stretch right now. It’s not even close. He has the impact on the defensive end Carmelo is supposed to have on the offensive end. I don’t know what the box score says but as soon as he went out we became a rebounding sieve in overtime.

Landry seemed to play really well. If you get him the ball and some space he’ll get to the rim. Hitting a few jumpers early seemed to open it up for him. You can tell he struggles with Melo how do you time a cut to the basket when the guy who has the ball will only pass if the shot isn’t available. I suppose wait till there are 2 seconds on the 24….

I know it’s silly to say something coming off one big game, but why we traded Gallinari, who is not yet coming into his prime, I don’t know. Well, I have said that before. I was never his biggest fan but he’s definitely thriving in Denver. I’d have a hard time taking Melo over him straight up. So much younger, such a better shooter, and so much more a team player.

Garden was awesome. Nothing better than Knicks fans.

D- Mar – I don’t know if you are a closet terrorist, but there was perfunctory security at the garden.

ruruland: The Knicks don’t deserve to win this game. There’s no reason for you to feel good about this game, not with Melo chucking like his normal self. he just happened to make more chucks than he normally does. This team would be so much better without the cancer, but we all know that.

You do know that misguided sarcasm is what people tend to resort to when they have nothing legitimate to say, right?

Just wondering because you do it a lot.

It’s way of showing that you disagree without actually having to explain what’s wrong; in short, it’s a cop out.

  109. Juany8

I disagree because Melo wasn’t the one who was airballing wide open 3’s… only to watch Andre Miller make a 30 foot heave. It’s almost like the Knicks somehow have bad karma for all the bad shots and bad defense they play. When they do actually play right everything goes terribly anyways.

  110. bobneptune

a couple of points about the game:

    1) when the ball moved, fields became a useful player , again.

    2) shumpert is going to mature into a plus player on the offensive end at the 2 and a plus plus defender. a stone steal @17

    3) the defensive set-up and execution on the lob with 0.3 seconds left is a firable offense in and of itself. has anyone ever seen a player wider open on a play like that ever.

    4) the knick’s coaching staff should grab melo by the throat and show him the 4 consecutive possessions in the 4th quarter where he drove it to the rim and scored on all 4. lots more of those, dish it when the double comes and cut out the fall away 21 footers. jesus!

    yeah….. they are unlucky…… that’s the problem.

  112. Juany8

I’m not sure if that was sarcastic or not bobneptune, although my larger point is that they’d played bad most of the game, don’t particularly deserve to win, but would have anyways if not for that 3 by Miller/ the ridiculous 3 from Shannon Brown in the phoenix game, both after a good defensive possession. We’re not a good team. Good teams bench guys like Douglas and, honestly, even Stoudemire for continued poor play and bad decisions. Thibs in Chicago has benched both Boozer and Noah in key playoff games when they were underperforming. Until we have a few more role players on the team though, guys like Jorts and Shumpert just aren’t capable of providing a consistent game by game effort. We’re stuck underperforming until we have more than 4 players capable of playing consistently, although I liked what I saw from Landry for the most part.

  113. Will the Thrill

That’s what I like to hear from Melo, and Amar’e. Even though Melo was AWFUL this game. The only way the offense will run correctly is if Melo changes how he plays the game of basketball, and it sounds like he may be willing to do that, if it results in wins. I always knew Amar’e wouldn’t care about his numbers or even touches as long as they get the win, so I think the team will eventually involve him more in the offense. BTW..how long would it take to lose about 20 pounds of muscle? Because he definitely should be looking into that.

    Howard Beck just tweeted:

Carmelo very reflective tonight. Wondered aloud if he’s shooting too much, or should pass more and whether he’s to blame for losses.

If D’antoni hasn’t told him that (100x) he’s not worthy of his job.
