jon abbey: the same fight that wasn’t there in D’Antoni in recent months, Woodson goes offense/defense at the end of quarters when it’s appropriate, he calls timeouts when his guys are gassed. I just feel better in every way with him running things, he wants to win more than D’Antoni did (Q: how do I know this? A: it’s really freaking obvious).

D’Antoni quit on this team way before Melo did.

I hate to say it, but I'm beginning to think you are right about some of this. I'm not sure I would say he quit early, but I do think his style of coaching and leadership works only when you have a strong field general who is your guy running things. In Melo he did not have that guy, and he knew Lin did not have the portfolio to impose it. He quit at the point he realized it wouldn't work...and actually I think that is to his credit. What he did was a pretty mature thing. He didn't hang around like some other coaches who weren't working did.

Z: Huh? Novak’s brain isn’t holding him back, his skill is. All he can do is shoot 3 pointers. Dunleavy can dribble, drive, and do a lot of things Novak wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) ever try to to do.

just saying if he knew how to set himself like Dunleavy without the ball he would be dangerous. look at the game everything was off screens not one shot (not counting drives) were spot up shots

d-mar: I don’t think anyone is saying Woodson is the second coming of Greg Popovich, just that he’s a refreshing change from a coach who just didn’t seem to be able to motivate anyone and who always seemed to be outcoached by the opposition.

I agree, I just don't think we can credit Woodson for "changing the culture" or for "incorporating the talent, preaching defense and holding people accountable" because it's too early, they barely had practice time.

I've seen that movie one too many times to believe so quickly in these type of changes.

anyway, I hope I'm terribly wrong and we win a title with Woodson.

JC Knickfan: If Novak going out, there Woodson got run some double screen play for him. Otherwise, he I see him defensive Liability. Or run penetration kick out to him because see some free brief moment he is open because his guy comes back in for rebound position.

Teams are also paying more attention to Novak now. It's clear that when he's in there he needs to play with Davis or Lin. Without a penetrating playmaker on the court he'll be more of a liability. I do appreciate that he puts effort into the defensive side but even with the effort he a less than average defender.

Bruno Almeida: have you watched Woodson’s Atlanta teams?

players do respond to the aforementioned things, I just don’t think Woodson has proven in his career that he can do it consistently.

he never got Josh Smith to fully buy into his system, Horford was always underutilized and Johnson was given free reign of the offense while playing little to no defense and shooting pretty inefficiently…

why should I believe everything’s changed with a small sample size, when there’s a much larger sample size that shows I should be worried about it?
