The Knicks take on the Hawks, in the land where Son of Wood’s eyebrows went missing.

Rage against the dying of the light here…

I never noticed the missing brows until I read that NY Times piece, which is well worth reading, he seems like a really likeable good guy. And check out the Knicks’ yearbook cover from 1981 with Woodson, Bill Cartwright and crazy eyes Sugar Ray Richardson.

  2. Will the Thrill

Not sure who I’d be more afraid to have in crunch time handling the ball, Lin, or Baron.

  3. ruruland

    2FOR18:
Bad groin my ass. This is as athletic as Melo has looked all season.

Yeah. He just decided he’d play this way…. GTFO

  4. art vandelay

hate to scoreboard watch…but washingon up 16 at home to philly in q2…can they hold it? if we win and they lose tonight….they play atlanta tomorrow night….HUGE!

    let’s get it done!

I didn’t want to mention it yet.. Been watching though..

  6. ruruland

time for adjustments right now….. They are getting too many cross-matchups when they shouldn’t.

  7. 2FOR18

So far it’s Melo vs. the Hawks. He looks like his old highlights tonight. A lot of pep in his step.

  8. art vandelay

Yes, and the hawks are winning.

  9. ruruland

I have no explanation why it’s there right now when it hasn’t been much of the year with injuries. Defies explanation.

  10. Will the Thrill

Woodson is taking up the D’antoni defensive strategy and switching on every screen.

  11. art vandelay

    Will the Thrill:
Woodson is taking up the D’antoni defensive strategy and switching on every screen.

wasn’t that D’antoni taking up the Woodson strategy?

  12. ruruland

Atlanta is getting the ball to drop right now, Knicks missing opportunities. Bad bad signs

  13. Will the Thrill

I really hate our *end of quarter plays. All it is is an iso for JR and a step back, fadeaway, long two pointer. Jamal Crawford anyone?

  14. Jake S.

Yo Art Vandelay: I’m down in Buenos Aires and I’m not sure I can bear this team by my lonesome. Let me know if you want to grab a game sometime.

  15. ruruland

Knicks fortunate to only be down 8… Need someone to step up now. This used to JR’s time…

  16. Nick C.

Jorts ain’t the smoothest looking player but in his own way he’s been useful tonight.

  17. ruruland

    2FOR18:
Looks like JR was at the Gold Club last night

It’s been like this all year outside of garbage time….shockingly bad…. I’ll say the same thing about him as a I’ve said all year about Melo: it’s in there.

  18. art vandelay

    Jake S.:
Yo Art Vandelay: I’m down in Buenos Aires and I’m not sure I can bear this team by my lonesome. Let me know if you want to grab a game sometime.

sure, man….that would be great….anytime you want…I have plenty of time on my hands coming up…so you pick the date and I’m there.

  19. Jake S.

    Nick C.:
Jorts ain’t the smoothest looking player but in his own way he’s been useful tonight.

I like Josh. Would be great if he could figure out how to hit a lay-up, though.

  20. ruruland

    Nick C.:
Jorts ain’t the smoothest looking player but in his own way he’s been useful tonight.

He needs to use that body better on defense…. You can live with his inability to finish if he does that at a really high level like he can.

  21. Jake S.

art vandelay: sure, man….that would be great….anytime you want…I have plenty of time on my hands coming up…so you pick the date and I’m there.

    Donde estas viviendo?

  22. art vandelay

    Jake S.: Donde estas viviendo?

I live in Caballito/Flores, but I normally go out in Recoleta, Canitas, Palermo….whereabouts you staying?

  23. Will the Thrill

This game has made me realize just how much we miss Lin (and Amare but that is obvious). When Melo exits the game, we have nobody on that can score, mostly because Woodson thinks JR is Kobe and lets him run the offense.

  24. Knicks4Eva

Jesus that big oaf for Atlanta, #27, committed 3 moving screens on that last possession. They’re going to have to start calling that.

  25. Will the Thrill

I would like to hear someone’s pitch on how Baron should be starting and finishing games for the knicks after this one.

  26. jon abbey

    Will the Thrill:
I would like to hear someone’s pitch on how Baron should be starting and finishing games for the knicks after this one.

he should be starting, he’s having an awful game. Lin should be finishing, no one ever argued that.

  27. art vandelay

    Jake S.:
Canitas, actually, but I defer to your judgement. Pick a spot. How’s Tuesday night?

Canitas is great, but there really are not bars/pubs to watch the game there…mostly lounges…how are you watching it tonight, for that matter?

  28. Knicks4Eva

Pachulia is just a big foul machine.
He has 3 already, and has committed something like 15.

  29. Will the Thrill

At least one person has, because of Lin’s turnovers. But I really don’t see much of a difference.

jon abbey: he should be starting, he’s having an awful game. Lin should be finishing, no one ever argued that.

The doofus Michael Kay was pumping Baron this afternoon.

On my computer, with the wife sulking gently next to me on the sofa. Any place that’s not in the microcentro and I’ll be there. I’m a big, gangly mofo–you can’t miss me.

  32. jock cowles

Hopefully the Knicks see the PHI score and realize the opportunity at hand! We might need another 40 pts from Kevin Love to see the Celtics lose though…

  33. art vandelay

hahaha….that is hilarious (the gangly mofo part)….I usually watch on my computer as well…I know of a place in barrio norte/recoleta sports bar that usually has the games, but other than watching the game there (I believe they have some sort of satellite TV package) it can be difficult if it is not a nationally-televised one (like NBATV, ESPN, etc.) to find a place that gets the ballgame….we can try that place i know of on tuesday night.

Sold. Tell me what’s it called and I’ll meet you out front ten minutes before tip-off.

  35. jon abbey

brutal play from JR and Baron and you can throw Novak and Fields in there too. some dubious officiating, though, most of it against us.

  36. Nick C.

Geez they find Tyson and then next time down a ridiculous pass that Josh Smith somehow tips in on the ensuing break for an and one.

  37. Will the Thrill

JR just hit Johnson in the stomach after he shot on purpose, why is he still playing?!

  38. hawshocker

    Hello!

I’ve been lurking here for a decent amount of time. Just wanted to say that this site has the best Knicks writing you can find. Also, Woodson should consider putting Shump on J. Smith and switching Fields to Johnson. Chandler is good enough to back-up Shump when Smith tries to post up, and Johnson isn’t so athletic as to blow by Fields. That is all.

Living in L.A., life-long Knicks fan, appreciating you guys and this site’s recaps to keep me sane in this city. Thanks!

  39. art vandelay

Jake S.: Sold. Tell me what’s it called and I’ll meet you out front ten minutes before tip-off.

cool, man….we’ll try tuesday night and hopefully they can get the game…if not, the game thursday night (if you will still be here) against orlando is on argentina’s version of TNT (Space) so they definitely should have it at the bar I had in mind….

my e-mail is jriccio03@gmail.com …e-mail me to set it up later on.

  40. art vandelay

    Will the Thrill:
    knicks won’t win tonight. ugh

It is hard to win when two of your top rotation players have had probably the dumbest game imaginable a human being can play.

  41. Will the Thrill

Believe me I know who you’re talking about. Shump is keeping us in it though.

art vandelay: It is hard to win when two of your top rotation players have had probably the dumbest game imaginable a human being can play.

  42. ruruland

    Will the Thrill:
well we are in ruru’s range of 6-7!!!! I’m amazed we are still in this game.

Knicks defense is better than Atlanta’s by a good margin with full energy…. It will come down, IMO, to Atlanta’s ability to make contested shots in the 4th.. They have some guys who can do that though.

  43. Business Socks

The Hawks have gotten every bounce, every loose ball, are shooting at almost 50%, yet we’re somehow only down by 5.

  44. Will the Thrill

Yeah, Johnson’s made a few of those already.

ruruland: Knicks defense is better than Atlanta’s by a good margin with full energy…. It will come down, IMO, to Atlanta’s ability to make contested shots in the 4th.. They have some guys who can do that though.

  45. Will the Thrill

    Wait, JR or Baron?!

art vandelay: It is hard to win when two of your top rotation players have had probably the dumbest game imaginable a human being can play.

  46. JLam

Atlanta announcers are the worst . Whines about miss calls for the Hawks, and dismisses obvious miss called against Knicks

  47. hawshocker

    Will the Thrill:
Believe me I know who you’re talking about.Shump is keeping us in it though.

Shump keeps my faith in this team going long term with or without STAT. IF he hones his offensive consistency. So much potential there.

  48. art vandelay

Hawks already with 3 fouls in 3 minutes…let’s get them over limit early (and actually MAKE the FTs)!

  49. Doug

Baron is literally the last guy who should be shooting with the clock running down. Why would you even do that

  50. art vandelay

new RULE: JR Smith and Baron not allowed to shoot remainder of game….or dribble, perhaps.

  51. Juany8

Let’s add Willie Green to the list of limited wings that light up Novak/Fields every game. It’s getting kind of old…

  52. TheXman

If we had Lin in this game instead of Baron we would be up by 20. Guy sometimes makes just the most polarizing plays.

  53. ruruland

    Doug:
Baron is literally the last guy who should be shooting with the clock running down. Why would you even do that

Hence the timeout. Ball will be in Melo’s hands… at least it better be. Knicks getting nothing outside of MeloShump

  54. art vandelay

Very underrated Melo trait (defensively): excellent hands and ability to swipe at ball and knock it lose without committing the foul.

  55. Will the Thrill

    So is Baron, oh wait…

    Juany8:
Let’s add Willie Green to the list of limited wings that light up Novak/Fields every game. It’s getting kind of old…

  56. ruruland

Very hard to win in this league when you have a starting pg going 2-8, 4pts, 4turns and 2 assists.

  57. Doug

yeah watching Melo gut things out is fun but if Lin is gone, that’s the nail in the coffin on the season.

  58. BigBlueAL

To be fair to BD though from the tweets Ive read his hamstring is killing him. Playing banged up.

  59. Knicks4Eva

If his hamstring is killing him then maybe it would be a good idea for him to pass the damn ball to Shump or Melo or (tonight) even Fields rather than force a shot of a slow-as-molasses move in traffic.

  60. art vandelay

I still think Knicks win tomorrow night at garden no matter what happens tonight…cleveland has been mailing in games for last month…they have looked terrible of late…I say we win comfortably.

  61. Juany8

Jeffries or Amar’e would have made a bigger difference IMO, Josh Smith killed the Knicks this game

  62. BigBlueAL

    art vandelay:
I still think Knicks win tomorrow night at garden no matter what happens tonight…cleveland has been mailing in games for last month…they have looked terrible of late…I say we win comfortably.

Tomorrow is not the problem, the next 2 weeks are.

  63. Gorky

The Knicks have been persistent but the Hawks are being resistant.

An actual Clyde quote from a few years ago.

  64. Will the Thrill

I’m sure Amare would not have stopped Josh Smith from killing the knicks haha. And Baron has hurt the Knicks much more than Josh Smith IMO

    Juany8:
Jeffries or Amar’e would have made a bigger difference IMO, Josh Smith killed the Knicks this game

  65. art vandelay

BigBlueAL: Tomorrow is not the problem, the next 2 weeks are.

oh yeah, they are completely screwed if Lin can’t go…bad enough without STAT…celtics will lead the atlantic at end of night….unbelievable!!!

  66. Juany8

    jon abbey:
a normal game from Chandler and we’re up by 10.

Bet he still gets a B+ or something in the recap lol. Has not defended the rim well today, it’s not a good sign that there’s another game tomorrow…

  67. TheXman

These announcers are fucking annoying as fuck, I’ve never heard Clyde be this biased against opposing teams.

  68. Knicks4Eva

I don’t know who these damn hicks doing the Hawks broadcast are, but they, to put it delicately, suck.

  69. Will the Thrill

Our over-doubling is really hurting our defense, we are constantly trying to get back to our man.

  70. rohank

Jeffries would have made a HUGE difference. No need to double on Smith.

    Fucking free throws…

  71. TheXman

bucks killed the cavs, I can’t see the Knicks holding off the Bucks with their schedule.

  72. jon abbey

Juany8: Bet he still gets a B+ or something in the recap lol. Has not defended the rim well today, it’s not a good sign that there’s another game tomorrow…

he’s killed them on offense too, a lot of other people’s turnovers were at least partly on him.

  73. BigBlueAL

    Knicks4Eva:
I don’t know who these damn hicks doing the Hawks broadcast are, but they, to put it delicately, suck.

    Dominique Wilkins is the analyst.

  74. jon abbey

    TheXman:

we get to play them one more time at least.

  75. hawshocker

    Knicks4Eva:

    Biggest homers I’ve ever heard.

“Finally after the 12th time, Chandler gets called for an illegal screen!”

  76. TheXman

Shumpert has no quit, can’t wait to see him keep improving over the years, please don’t trade him Dolan.

  77. jon abbey

so awesome that two days ago people were telling me definitively that Fields was better offensively than Shumpert. um, no.

  78. BigBlueAL

jon abbey: we get to play them one more time at least.

Problem is the game is at Milwaukee and is the 2nd of a back-to-back with the 1st game being at Chicago. Brutal.

  79. New Guy

hawshocker: Biggest homers I’ve ever heard.

“Finally after the 12th time, Chandler gets called for an illegal screen!”

In fairness, I think Chandler may have committed 12 illegal screens.

  80. TheXman

Defense is fucking horrible, what’s with this defense? jeezus christ. The Hawks are not very good offensively, let JSmith and Joe Johnson shoot themselves out of the game.

  81. jon abbey

so sick of watching JR shoot contested 21 footers, his shot selection is worse than Melo’s.

  82. rohank

Wilkins isn’t that bad. It’s the other guy. What a douche: “whaddya know, some knicks fans are heading to the exits” (in heavy sarcasm).

Why did we go away from Melo in the 4th? He was stroking it.

  83. Will the Thrill

JR Smith is a one trick pony. He dribbles around, pulls it back and fires a bullet at the back of the rim.

  84. jon abbey

    Will the Thrill:
JR Smith is a one trick pony.He dribbles around, pulls it back and fires a bullet at the back of the rim.

he has been so far for NY, but he really isn’t.

  85. rohank

If JR is gonna let willie green get by him on defense, what’s the fucking point of having him out there? He’s a minus on offense

  86. BigBlueAL

Cant imagine JR not accepting his player option cause with the way he has played this season not sure how many mid-level offers he will be getting.

  87. hoolahoop

This game was the difference between fighting for the Division Title (4 seed) and trying to make the playoffs to beat out a red hot Milwaukee team.
This was the flattest the knicks came out in long while.

  88. jon abbey

    rohank:
If JR is gonna let willie green get by him on defense, what’s the fucking point of having him out there? He’s a minus on offense

who would you rather have out there? they have four guys hurt now including Baron, and Novak and Fields are sieves.

    And we’re off…….

  90. jon abbey

that loss is on Baron/JR/Chandler, which is a shame because Melo and Shumpie were awesome again.

  91. jon abbey

    ruruland: And we’re off…….

ruru, it is true, you’re right that we’re incredibly dangerous at full strength, but it’s also true that we’re only one loss up on Milwaukee now and their schedule is decidedly easier than ours. it’s not knee jerk, it’s a product of the hole these guys dug themselves.

  92. rohank

jon abbey: who would you rather have out there? they have four guys hurt now including Baron, and Novak and Fields are sieves.

Yeah but that’s what I’m saying. If JR isn’t gonna at least give you better D than Novak, put Novak in for the offense…

  93. jon abbey

rohank: Yeah but that’s what I’m saying. If JR isn’t gonna at least give you better D than Novak, put Novak in for the offense…

he has had a lot of trouble getting open without Jeffries’ picks.

  94. ruruland

I understand that. And I understand Bucks schedule advantage. But, it’s one game, just like Toronto was one game. I know they’re all very important.

If we learn that Lin is going to be out awhile, given whatever is going on with Baron, then I’d admit we’re in trouble. But missing those three guys was obviously huge.

  95. er

Yea tonight was a tough one considering the Philly and buck final….hopefully we can smash the cavs tho

jon abbey: ruru, it is true, you’re right that we’re incredibly dangerous at full strength, but it’s also true that we’re only one loss up on Milwaukee now and their schedule is decidedly easier than ours. it’s not knee jerk, it’s a product of the hole these guys dug themselves.

  96. hoolahoop

The knicks fought back within two and are finally playing balls out defense. Then Woody brings in Melo, BD and TC and the team went south from there. That was a Dantoni type move. I’m surprised he didn’t let the guys who brought the knicks back stay in the game a litte longer, at least until the momentum changed.

  97. JC Knickfan

Since know JJ out, I wish Lin would have gave us 28 minutes and sit tomorrow. Not sure give us the win, but PG play was weak today. Shump has 2 good games in row as SG, but barely passes up when play PG.

  98. ephus

As much as I wish that the Knicks had won, if this game leads to Shumpert being a consistent force on the offensive end, it is worth it.

The Knicks got nothing from Novak and JR Smith. Smith shot and missed, Novak did not get open.

Great game by Melo, at both ends.

Chandler was a mess, but everyone is entitled to a bad game every once in a while.

If the Knicks beat Cleveland tomorrow, then this is not a big deal.

  99. BigBlueAL

Hopefully tomorrow night Memphis wins in Milwaukee and we take care of business at home.

Biggest positive of tonight (besides Shump’s continued improvement on offense) is Melo looking healthy. Plus his shot coming back is great to see too.

  100. New Guy

    BigBlueAL:
Cant imagine JR not accepting his player option cause with the way he has played this season not sure how many mid-level offers he will be getting.

    That’s unfortunate.

  101. d-mar

Playing without 2 starters and our best defender off the bench was bound to catch up with us. Makes tomorrow night a must win, just need to come out and blow the Cavs out of the building.

I think we also need to acknowledge that best case the Knicks aren’t climbing out of the 8th seed, unfortunately, and we definitely aren’t winning the division the way the Celtics are playing.

  102. hoolahoop

ruruland: I understand that. And I understand Bucks schedule advantage. But, it’s one game, just like Toronto was one game. I know they’re all very important.

I don’t think you can say “it’s just one game” anymore. Every game is huge, now. This “one game” may be the difference of them not making the playoffs and killing their hot streak.

  103. Business Socks

Missed lay-ups, missed free throws, Joe Johnson hitting some heavily contested shots, and Wille Fucking Greene. The Hawks had an answer for everything. Felt as if the outcome was pre-determined.

  104. ruruland

It’s a season of attrition for sure, which ultimately shows in defensive intensity and dribble penetration, the biggest ways Knicks seperate themselves from teams like the Hawks. A lot of defensive breakdowns tonight,

Bucks are a front-running kind of team to me which is why I’m less worried about them. very difficult circumstances though when we face them…

Philly losing was huge…. Really a wash when you consider Boston’s schedule….

Can’t think of the schedule… Just play each game.

Good observation – Woodson has decent with subs, but I agree let them ride it out.

I think you need to pay more attention to how momentum works, how it affects energy, and how a coach manages it…..

  108. er

Yep that’s the recap right there the guys can take the night off from that

Shumpie played 41 minutes, even Jah rested on the seventh day.

  110. jon abbey

looking at the box score, the difference really was Willie Green destroying JR Smith on both ends. on paper, I’d take my chances with that, but JR was dreadful tonight.

  111. JLam

When I tuned in and seen that Hawks scored 50 points at the half, knew that the D wasnt there tonight . Thats what winning streak was made of, strong defense. I am not interesting in seeing MDA ball again.

    jon abbey:

Yeah….Really was. You can even toss out everything else and it came down to that…. Funny, because the Hawks can’t play all that much better than that.

  113. hoolahoop

jon abbey: Shumpie played 41 minutes, even Jah rested on the seventh day.

Those guys were playing intense. The subs came in and they got lazy again.
Shumpie still had more life in him, and there was only about four minutes left
The knicks fell apart after that substitution.

  114. BigBlueAL

At least after tomorrow Knicks get some rest. 2 days off before going to Indy on Tues, day off then go to Orlando followed by 2 off days before hosting the Bulls next Sun. Hopefully this allows guys like Lin and BD to get better plus the rest should be good for Melo’s groin as well.

Just read Kyrie Irving left tonight’s game in the 4th quarter with a shoulder injury, would be nice if he doesnt play tomorrow night :-)

  117. JC Knickfan

First don’t agree Knicks flat, but in close game with JJ, Amare and Jlin out rotation really only good for 7 man. Bibby just sucks and Josh Harrellson still looks lost. Not surprise they look so tired at end.
Novak not as good without good PG or JJ who set screen for. Smith ran one screen for Novak and hit open 3. If you going play him 20 minutes he got to get him more then 2 shots. I rather see Novak shoot even with someone hand in his face then Smith.

hoolahoop: Those guys were playing intense. The subs (starters) came in and they got lazy again.
Shumpie still had more life in him, and there was only about four minutes left
The knicks fell apart after that substitution.

this is the kind of mindset that led to Lin getting hurt from “overuse”, there’s another game tomorrow and Shumpert has already had cramping issues a few times this year.

anyway, he barely sat out, from 9:48 to 7:56 left in the 4th, then Woodson called a TO to get him back in.

  119. hoolahoop

The knicks didn’t move the ball well tonight. That’s why Novak had only two shots.
The energy on both ends of the floor wasn’t there tonight, except for a brief spurt int the fourth.
They got to do something about the foul shooting. Many games are won and lost at the line.

  120. jon abbey

no Irving tomorrow would be welcome, although Dan Gilbert ripped the Cavs on Twitter after the game, so we may get a strong effort from them tomorrow:

    Dan Gilbert ? @cavsdan

One of those nights where I can’t find the words to match the emotions (at least non-profane words). Cavs fans deserve better. Much better.

It’s simply not possible for any NBA team, certainly not one as banged up as the Knicks, to play at their highest level every game during a truncated schedule….

It wasn’t an awful effort, but it was quite similar to the Toronto effort…. It wasn’t enough to overcome the fixable offensive issues.

  122. ruruland

Well, let’s hope Atlanta brings it tomorrow against Philly and Memphis shoots better than 1-15 from 3 like they did tonight…. Things could look a lot better tomorrow.

  123. JR Sec 112

Can’t wait for recap. Chandler deserves no better than a D and JR and BD should get Fs. Melo should get an A+, given he had to create everything and he played superb D. Shump an A.

Wasn’t there a heated debate on baron vs lin starting on the board just a week ago? Let’s put that nonsense to rest. Also, to be fair to chandler, BD can’t throw a lob and insists on making overcomplicated passes, which hurts tyson.

On the Cavs, Gilbert has no impact….without Irving they will roll over.

After watching both melo and shump tonight, couldn’t help but dream of lin, shump, melo, amare, and TC closing out the Bulls in the playoffs. If they can hang in and get healthy, I’m convinced they can take that series.

Given Novak super high 3pt % would possible Woodson run some play for him? If he misses so be it.

Lin, Shump, Melo, JJ and TC I think going best lineup with Melo as primary option. We know JJ defensive ability and Shump, but Lin under Woodson gotten a lot better. No more stupid double team by him leaving guy open. The back to back Indiana and then raptors game was some most complete BB I’ve seen from Lin. He shoot well 15-27, 17-18 FT and play tight defense on guy.

Poor screens tonight. Teams closing hard on him, too, given his inability to do anything else with ball.

Not the way amare was playing pre-injury. That 5 playing at peak is arguably unparalled in the league. Melo and amare’s offensive explosiveness, backed by fierce on the ball defense of shump and TC, and lin orchestrating it all. Seriously, if it all comes together I expect to see miami in the conference finals in an epic matchup.

The view from the cheap seats in The Highlight Factory…

More Knicks fans than Hawks fans, as usual.

With all the injuries, not much margin for error. Chandler had a bumpy night, and everyone else but Melo and Shump were awful.

Hawks played really well. Knicks might have won anyway, if Joe Johnson hadn’t have really gotten going in the 2nd half. THere were a couple times when Landry played tough D, and Joe just was in the zone.

Josh Smith took more than usual quotient of idiotic shots, but, obviously, was a lot to handle.

I rarely say this, but the refshad a bumpy night. In the first quarter especially, seemed like they were letting the Hawks play tackle while the Knicks were playing touch. They also blew an obvious out-of-bounds call.

There was a fantastic halftime entertainer – “The Red Panda,” a Chinese girl riding a unicycle about 20 feet high. She’d catch a cereal bowl from Harry the Hawk, put it on her foot and flip it onto her head. Then ride around a bit, with the bowl on her head. Then she’d do it with two bowls. Then 3, then 4, all the way to flipping 6 cereal bowls at a time onto on her head, with her foot, while balancing on a 20-foot unicycle with the other. By the time she was done there were 21 bowls on her head.

Woodson tried to sub her in for Baron Davis after he threw that second pass to no one, but she was already in the locker room.

Even more than on TV, you can see that Landry’s added a lot of wrinkles to his game – like those two alley-oop plays to Chandler – and he is a solid player. But he has so completely lost confidence in his shot, it’s an iron ball around his ankle. If he could hit 33% on 3s and 70% on FTs, he’d be a quality starter.

If Shumpert keeps hitting 3s, the league better watch out.

    haha. well done.

Fields can be a very good player in this league if he can merely be close to average at the line and behind it. His floor game is pretty good, and he’s the best off-ball movement guy on the team. He can play defense and should work well playing back-up Melo minutes… A lot of guys go…

maybe we missed Jeffries’s ability to set screen to free Novak for open 3′s.

  131. art vandelay

As bad as Chandler may have been, this game was on Davis and Smith…..they couldn’t have possibly played more braindead basketball on the court….I think they thought they were Michael Jordan out there going one on one throwing their bodies at the opposition in traffic, or committing horrendous fouls, or throwing the ball up for grabs surrounded by several defenders.

  132. Caleb

Chandler had stone hands and a tough game around the rim, but he still affected the game defensively. More like a C-game… there were much worse villains out there.

On a happier note, I see Stephon Marbury scored 41 to lead the Beijing Ducks to their first-ever title, wrapping up the Chinese Finals in Game 5.

  133. JC Knickfan

Correct if I’m wrong – Smith cover Willie Green right? That scoring run seem like no one even on him.

I’ll give prop to Fields, he play Joe Johnson pretty tight.

  134. JR Sec 112

Anyone else feel like JR Smith is fast becoming their least favorite Knick? Can’t shoot, can’t pass, can’t think, makes stupid plays on defense…

  135. Thomas B.

Same can be said of Landry right now. Damn same; I used to really like him.

I’ve found Fields generally does a pretty good job against threes and bigger twos, Johnson being one of them. Still not good enough though

I think we could really of used Jerome Jordan out there tonight. Harrellson doesn’t have the range to help against the guards and even TC looked a little slow. Jordan from what i’ve seen is pretty quick laterally and is a hell of a shot blocker

  138. Will the Thrill

The next seven games for the Celtics:
Miami, San Antonio, Chicago, Indiana, Philly, Miami, and Atlanta.

    Philly:
Atlanta, Miami, Toronto, Orlando, Boston, New Jersey, Toronto

    New York:
Cleveland, Orlando, Chicago, Chicago, Milwaukee, Washington, Miami

    My projection for Boston: 2-5
    Philly: 4-3
    New York: 5-2
If this actually happened, we’d be 1.5 games back of Philly for the Division, with a huge game against Boston coming up after.

Chandler tweaked his groin before the game. Hard to believe, I know. Also, Melo re-tweaked his groin by saving his fifth steal which is why he became passive the last 5 minutes.
