2012-13 Game Thread: Some of the Knicks vs. Hawks

It sure is swell to have a regular season finale where the Knicks don’t actually have to do anything in it.

Atlanta needs to win and have Chicago lose for Atlanta to get the #5 seed. It will be interesting to see if Atlanta even tries. Have you seen a more checked out playoff team than Atlanta? Talk about listless!

Anyhow, um, go Earl Barron and Q-Rich!?

I cant believe White actually started some meaningful games for this team earlier this season.

agreed. i would much rather start Novak and help spread the floor even more for the starters.

Atlanta definitely WANTS to lose this game. We also want them to lose — gets Chicago out of our bracket. For Atlanta, they get out of the Heat’s bracket and into ours.

Also – ppg average against Chicago (went 1-2): 75 ppg
PPG against Indiana (went 2 -2): 99 ppg.

The lowest scoring game against Indy was only 3 points lower than their highest total against Chicago. Sure adjustments for pace, etc but those numbers are so widely different, that I’m sure it wouldn’t affect the outcome that much. Will be interesting to watch this. It is in our interest to win and in Atlanta’s interest to lose….so this SHOULD be a Knicks win =)

    gmoney_nz:
Would be a good result to get the W and see Atlanta in our half of the bracket

Yea thinking back it’s not surprising so many people lost hope in this team lol. James White just doesn’t belong on the floor for a contender (which I hope we can all agree the Knicks are at this point, even if Miami is still the clear favorite)

  5. johnlocke

White is just not good at basketball. Good athlete, bad basketball player

Wow can not catch a break. He walked off so hopefully its just a bruise or mild sprain but jeez Louise. Wouldn’t want to at this point but can we still cut white for delonte?

  7. BigBlueAL

Not like it matters cause this game is meaningless but pretty big difference offensively with Shump playing PG instead of Prigs.

  8. johnlocke

Looking at how he rolled it, it didn’t look that severe although you never know. I’ve rolled my ankle like that countless times. I’d bet he’s okay to play if I had to put money on it. Fingers crossed.

    Hubert Davis:
    Reports it’s a sprained ankle.Severity unknown.

But we all know, don’t we?

  9. johnlocke

Guess if Prigs somehow can’t go on Sat –> We go with Felton, Kidd, Shumpert, Melo and Chandler to start. Big lineup doesn’t make sense against Celtics.

Not sure since the Celtics lately have been starting a big lineup with Pierce at SG and Green at SF.

If Prigs is out no way Kidd starts cause he would have to be the backup PG although obviously he could still start and come out quickly for JR and go back in for Felton. But earlier this season the couple of games Prigs missed with a bad back Woodson specifically said Kidd was coming off the bench because Prigs was out. So who knows.

I think I would rather start Cope than Kidd.

  12. johnlocke

I thought about that too, but starting an inexperienced rookie in a playoff game …I just can’t sign up for that. Too much pressure. Put in the seasoned vet.

Hey Brian did you see JVG on the ESPN pre-game show tonight?? Simmons asked him with so many teams shooting 3pters now (and being good teams, he mentioned 8 of the 9 teams with the most 3pters made are in the playoffs) would he change the way he coaches offense and he mentioned that in his final season in Houston they almost lead the league in 3pters (2nd in makes, 3rd in attempts). So as we have talked about before he did make the adjustment in terms of shooting more 3pters.

Also it was hilarious to see him tell Jalen Rose that the 1999 Knicks were just better than the Pacers and that they were lucky to have even won Game 2 because of a bad block/charge call on an Antonio Davis basket where they called a foul on Camby and it shouldve been a charge (I actually remember that play!!). I will always love JVG lol.

good or bad? I’m not watching, but it looks like Shumpert has an outside shot at a triple double.

    you know this how?? =)

    i knoooow thiiis maaaaan.

Lol he didnt seem like he was in tremendous pain like Kmart was. he was able to immediately put weight on it and walk off, so that’s promising. Prigs has some og swag and grit, he seems like the type to play through pain. if i had to put a wager on it, i would put my dollar on his name being in that starting line up.

  16. johnlocke

LOL. Ok I felt the same way too..(see above)…I was just wondering if you had some NYPOst like unnamed sources that the rest of the world didn’t have access to with this information… I actually think he makes a big difference. Probably the best passer on the team and one of the best three point shooters in the backcourt (perhaps the best?)

Initially bad. Cope came in and started scoring at the end of the quarter yet they still only scored 20 pts in the 2nd quarter.

  18. johnlocke

Shump is playing well, but Prigs was on his way to a historic night. Cope doing his Melo impersonation …en route to efficient 30+ point game.

Lakers about to enter the playoffs w/o having to win tonight, unless Utah goes on some kind of run.

Yeah kinda sucks if Utah loses, takes the drama out of the Lakers game. Although still game has some importance, if Lakers win they move to 7 and Rockets fall to 8.

  21. BigBlueAL

Im assuming the Knicks game on Saturday will the the ABC afternoon game which sucks big time for me cause I probably wont be able to watch it. FML

  22. AnonymousODG

    Jake S.:
Not watching. Is Cope hurt? (Trembles)

Nah, he’s fine. On his way to a career best night.

Ref hurt his knee, somehow don’t feel bad about it at all. Resentful much?

  23. AnonymousODG

I keep forgetting James White has hops. Hope Shump isn’t hurt too bad. Looks like he just tweaked it. *knocks on wood*

  24. mr.JayP

    BigBlueAL:
Im holding my breath any time Shump does anything hoping he doesnt get hurt.

did you see him clutching his knee before commercial break? hopefully its just soreness from minutes.

  25. AnonymousODG

    BigBlueAL:
Oh God as soon as I typed that Shump hurts himself.WTF

Expect a lynch mob outside your place tomorrow should he be injured.

  26. jon abbey

cramps for Shumpert, that was what I thought.

Barron has a good shot at averaging 20 boards for the season, at 19 now. who was the last guy to do that?

  27. johnlocke

Shump’s fine. I trust his face. He doesn’t look worried.

Just hope Prigs is okay and not dinged up too bad. At least he was hurt in the 1st quarter..more rest..and game not until Sat. We literally have no subs right now… unbelievable =)

    BigBlueAL:
Just cramps for Shump according to the Knicks.Of course dunno if I trust them.

  28. gmoney_nz

No mention of the Barron? a double double! I haven’t been able to see the game – was this a good double-double or a “no other big guy to take some slack” double double

  29. AnonymousODG

Barron playing 37 minutes his first game back makes me think Woodson is an idiot of gigantic proportions. Now he has a tender knee apparently. I’m pretty positive he’ll be out for the Celtics series.

Copeland with a sprained shoulder too, pretty sure the Knicks medical staff will amputate.

  30. johnlocke

I’m already calling Bulls upsetting the Nets in round 1. How do people think NYK vs Celtics will be more competitive than that series??? bizarre

    BigBlueAL:
All I have to say is go Bulls and Hawks in the 1st round!!lol

Bulls will take the nets to 6 and win the series.

    NYK will sweep the Celtics.

Congrats to the Knicks and fans for a great regular season. It’s hard to overstate how much is riding on winning this first round series. Hopefully, this is our time.

  33. yellowboy90

Anyone remember the thread where someone calculated Melo’s numbers if he shot 1 less shot and 2 more Fts?
