Knicks-Celtics Rivalry Renewed

The NBA begins its 2012 season today with a noon game between the Boston Celtics & the New York Knicks. Over the last 4 seasons, the Boston Celtics have dominated the New York Knicks en route to 4 straight Atlantic division titles. In that time span New York has only won 2 of 20 head-to-head games against their regional rivals. Last year despite a full season from Amar’e Stoudemire and a partial season from Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks lost all 8 games against Boston, including 4 consecutive playoff games. This offseason both parties attempted to bolster their roster. The Celtics …continue reading

Knicks Morning News (Sunday, Dec 25 2011)

[New York Daily News] Amar’e is jolly St. Knick (Sun, 25 Dec 2011 04:24:16 GMT) Amar’e Stoudemire stood up straight, his eyes growing wide. He had a slightly manic look. Stoudemire, the Knicks’ 6-11 forward, looked like a bottle of soda ready to pop. [New York Daily News] Clyde talks title from experience (Sun, 25 Dec 2011 04:10:33 GMT) Walt Frazier, who knows more about winning NBA titles than anyone over at the Garden, was looking out at the court the other night in the World’s Most Famous Renovated Arena and talking about all the players who have followed Amar’e …continue reading

Preseason Thoughts

Sitting here on Christmas Eve – 24 hours before the Knicks tip off their season – my thoughts fluctuate between excitement, anxiousness, and fear – excited at the chances of a Championship, anxious from the lockout, and fearful of injuries. Here are my final thoughts (and feel-good YouTube clips) before the Knicks dive headfirst into 2011-2012. – STAT has been too passive thus far. Since ‘Melo joined the team, Amar’e hasn’t been the same. In the first half of last season, he would dominate teams in and out of the paint on the offensive end. Now, the offense moves completely …continue reading

‘Twas the Night Before Knicksmas

” ‘Twas the night before Knicksmas, And all through MSG, Not one fan was stirring, Not even Spike Lee. The players had practiced, worked, and prepared in hopes that a victory soon would be theirs…”   One night, and the waiting is over. The beginning of the NBA season is upon us. The strange tale of the path the NBA took during 2011- the incredible play-offs, the victorious Mavericks, the lockout and its resolution, “basketball reasons-” is about to receive its final chapter, a preview of what’s to come in the sequel. For Knicks fans, the wait has been much …continue reading

Knicks Morning News (Saturday, Dec 24 2011)

[New York Daily News] Doc Rivers: Pierce unlikely to start vs. Knicks (Sat, 24 Dec 2011 03:48:06 GMT) Paul Pierce has made a career out of terrorizing the Knicks but on Christmas Day he may never get off the bench. The Celtics’ All-Star forward is listed as doubtful for the NBA opener with a nagging heel injury. [New York Daily News] With Woodson, Knicks place emphasis on ‘D’ (Sat, 24 Dec 2011 03:41:41 GMT) For nearly a decade, defense was a word chanted at Madison Square Garden but rarely practiced by the home team. Carmelo Anthony has revealed that a …continue reading

New Kids on the ‘Bock: Tyson Chandler

For Zeke, the eye test was enough. More than enough. In 2006, then President of Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas looked at film and live performances of the Chicago Bulls and decided that Eddy Curry would be the cornerstone of the New York Knicks. Loaded as Curry was with an ever-improving offensive repertoire of crafty pivots, soft hooks, and deceptive agility — all unbecoming the snapshot impression one might have of a player already nearing 300 pounds — who could blame him? Beside Curry stood Tyson Chandler; all 150 offensively challenged pounds of him — a good inch or two taller, …continue reading

Knicks Morning News (Friday, Dec 23 2011)

[New York Daily News] Spending Christmas with Knicks costs up to 5G (Fri, 23 Dec 2011 00:59:05 GMT) For anyone looking to wow their kids or impress a significant other, a courtside seat to the Knicks game on Christmas might be quite the gift. It would also cost $5,036. [New York Post] With Chandler and Davis on board, NBA title is the goal (Fri, 23 Dec 2011 05:02:29 -0500) Earlier this month, Knicks owner James Dolan was told the harsh reality by his front-office team. The whopping salary-cap space in 2012 for Chris Paul may be foolALL¹s gold. David Stern’s …continue reading
