Hard to say. Do we want to catch Philly for the 6 seed? I honestly go back and forth about whether Boston or Miami is a better matchup (I’m leaning Heat).

every stat says the heat are better than then the celtics. Better offense, better scoring margin, only slightly worse offense.

Not playoff experience. Plus, the pressure on the Heat is ginormous

I think Melo was too unselfish there.

What is better for the long term future of the team? To be the 6th seed proving our improved status, or the 7th seed and getting a better draft pick? Perceived value vs. Real value!

all of their players have been to the playoffs. i just dont trust our ability to guard D-wade. Fields is a horrible defender and doesn’t have the lateral quickness to stay in front of wade

With the pressure lifted, Knicks open 13-0…

by the time you get to the middle of the draft, its all about scouting over selection slot.

I actually think the Celtics have more pressure, with the recent (plus the age of their core) I’m pretty sure they know this is their last chance to go for a ring… Meanwhile the Heat knows their core is in their prime and they can still play at the same level for 3-4 years, I’m sure that behind all the shenanigans and thrash talking LeBron thinks this is barely their first year together and things will only go up from here…

  16. 16
    Z says:

Question is– who would the Heat/Celtics rather face, us or the Sixers?

  17. 17
    Robert Silverman says:

Knicks rolling. Mets clobbering the Phillies. I feel like I need to pinch myself

  18. 18
    Jake S. says:

They look a lot better. I know D’Antoni needs to give everybody a blow, but I’d love to see him settle on an 8-9 man rotation.

idk if you disagree or not but it seems to me like he’s saving himself for the playoffs, at least I hope that’s the case.

  29. 29
    Jake S. says:

Could be. Problem is that he’s looked like a zombie for the past month or so. The numbers are basically there, but he doesn’t seem to get much elevation and his defensive rotations are a mess.

His defensive rotations have been a mess all season, to be fair

  31. 31
    art vandelay says:

He is in full zombie regalia tonight…not sure why certain nights over others…last game he had no extra paraphernalia on….his defensive rotations have always been pretty putrid….can’t say they are really materially worse in the last month..he definitely doesn’t elevate around the rim as well as early in the season, though….that much is for sure.

  32. 32
    Robert Silverman says:

    Ok, this is getting silly

  33. 33
    Jake S. says:

My point is that he’s been looking especially statuesque of late. And yes, those leg wraps scare the bejesus out of me. I worry he’s mummifying before our very eyes. On a separate note, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them shoot like this.

  34. 34
    art vandelay says:

save a little for tomorrow night, boys!

Might be – they were also proclaiming that Andy Rautins is going to be a “big-time” player, somewhere in the NBA and hinted that the Knicks were screwing him over by not playing him

Whoa! Get that man some minutes.

I just hate the fact that Amar’e gets so burnt in this games while Anthony gets the rest… Every single coach in the NBA would do the opposite of that… Maybe Vinny del Negro wouldn’t but you know, he doesn’t really count as a coach…

  65. 65
    Michael Cline says:

Good lord knicks, don’t let them get to 120 on you just because you’re winning. I know we got this game, but gosh. A little D wouldn’t hurt

    I can’t figure that out

If we scored 250 and they scored 249 I would be happy with the victory at this point!

  69. 69
    massive says:

Another good win. I mean we stopped playing defense in the 4th quarter, but at least we were able to afford it this time.

  70. 70
    cgreene says:

I actually thought that Amare looked quite a bit more spry tonight. Maybe best explosion in a month. Maybe MDA saw him getting good legs and rhythm and wanted to let him continue. That can have a positive mental effect I would think.

  71. 71
    CRJoe says:

So tomorrow night is the first time in this mini-winning streak that we face a team that actually plays D… I guess one of the keys will be to face the game not relying in contested outside shots and try to take it into Elton Brand & Thad Young… Amare’s recent out of shape concerns will be in the spotlight tomorrow… Also Philly strikes me as a team that doesn’t really relies in one player to dominate offensively, but if ‘Melo plays “Orlando like” defense on Iggy, will be all right…

  72. 72
    Robert Silverman says:

CRJoe: So tomorrow night is the first time in this mini-winning streak that we face a team that actually plays D…

    Orlando doesn’t play D?

TheXman: raptors were without bargnani, barbosa and calderon, i’ll take the win tho

That trio wouldn’t have helped on defense – in fact, playing them over Davis, Bayless, and say Weems might have made them worse.

  74. 74
    Frank O. says:

    Nice win.
Think they’re gonna beat the 76ers

  75. 75
    Brian Cronin says:

Yeah, I don’t get the rest patterns either.

Still, I love the win! I hope they finish the season over .500!

Nop… Dwight Howard is the best defender in the league… But the rest of the Magic??? Come on…

On a sad note – evidently Mozgov sustained a pretty bad injury to his knee/ankle.

  78. 78

    CRJoe:
Nop… Dwight Howard is the best defender in the league… But the rest of the Magic??? Come on…

They’re a top 5 defense by any statistical measure. Whether that’s all Howard isn’t the issue.

  79. 79
    d-mar says:

My friend from Boston says they’d much rather play the Knicks in the first round, because young, athletic teams like the Sixers give them trouble. All I can say is – be careful what you wish for!

  80. 80
    Brian Cronin says:

Houston down three with 20 seconds to go, Sacramento ball! Go Sacto!!

  81. 81
    CRJoe says:

Damn, just check the Magic stats and their 3rd in defensive rating… Wonder how they get that done with Bass, Turkoglu, Richardson and Nelson starting??? And Arenas off the bench??? Damn… Dwight is good…

  82. 82
    Brian Cronin says:

Randolph showed the best and the worst of his game tonight. He has a very good game overall, but with 30 seconds left in the game and his team down one, he makes a great steal at mid-court (the best) and then drives to the basket but just lets the ball slip out of his hand for a turnover (the worst).

  83. 83
    Brian Cronin says:

Damn, just check the Magic stats and their 3rd in defensive rating… Wonder how they get that done with Bass, Turkoglu, Richardson and Nelson starting??? And Arenas off the bench??? Damn… Dwight is good…

    He really, really is.

  84. 84
    Brian Cronin says:

Yay, Houston lost! Would have preferred to see Memphis win as well to really cinch it, but still, five games left to play, two and a half game lead for Memphis.

  85. 85
    CRJoe says:

*checked and *they’re… Excuse the grammar….

That’s the thing with AR – If (and it’s a big “if) he puts it all together, he could be a beast. Will he? Who knows.

  87. 87
    nicos says:

Really good ball movement in the first half- nice to see Billups with 9 assists in limited minutes. Another awful game on the glass but can’t make too much of it as the Knicks were up by double digits pretty much the entire game. And yeah, the one guy who you really need to rest plays 36 minutes. Tough to figure that one out. If the Knicks win tomorrow that’d give the Knicks a half game lead and the tie-breaker as they’ll have a better division record. Even then the Knicks would probably need to go 3-1 in thier last 4 to get the sixth seed as the only tough game left for the 76ers is Orlando. I just want the Knicks to finish above .500- I’m less concerned with playoff matchups (either way Miami or Boston is going to be really tough) than that.

  88. 88
    BigBlueAL says:

Is it really that big a difference between the 16th and 17th pick in the draft?? I wanna see the Knicks finish 6th just for the ego standpoint lol.

    Brian Cronin says:

I just want the Knicks to finish above .500- I’m less concerned with playoff matchups (either way Miami or Boston is going to be really tough) than that.

Agreed. I really want a winning season. It is insane that it has been 10 years since their last winning season!

By the way, something that is interesting vis a vis the #6 vs. the #7 seed. If both the Knicks and Philly advance, it’d be nice to have home court. Yeah, I don’t think that’s a good argument, either. ;)

  90. 90
    Brian Cronin says:

Also, the Knicks haven’t finished as high as 2nd in their division since 2000. 2000, people!!!! They haven’t won their division since 1994, but that’s neither here nor there, but come on, not even second?!?!

Ha!! Homecourt in the 2nd round possibly!! lol

Sixers w/o Lou Williams now plus Brand apparently playing with a broken hand could be fading down the stretch a bit. Gonna be interesting to see how hard the Knicks go for the win tomorrow night.
