    Wait, TD’s out? What happened?

Great. My whole Fantasy team is injured. And just when I was about to destroy jaylamerique!

  2. art vandelay

This is completely anecdotal….and surely it is coincidently, but has anyone else noticed how the Knicks, throughout their history, have alternated good and bad decades:

1950s: went to 4 or 5 straight finals I believe, althought they lost all
    1960s: pretty bad decade
    1970s: 2 championships
1980s: another bleh decade, save for a few decent years towards the end
1990s: perennial playoff contender, string of 14 straight playoff appearances stretching from late 80s to 2001
2000s: worst decade in franchise history bar none…became total laughingstock of league and professional sports in general
2010s: resurgence is upon us with acquisition of STAT

I am sure that if I were to take the time to compile the win %s from each decade that my anecdotal premonitions would be borne out.

why are you going to destroy me.. He is going to be active but they dont want to play him in a back to back because of a shoulder injury

  4. Robert Silverman

If no DWTDD tonight, what’s the rotation? The starters plus Extra E, Bully Walker and…? Rautins? Mason? Moz? (AR’s out w/”flu-like conditions”)

This is really bad especially since Felton suffered an ankle sprain last night

  6. flossy

Hey everybody. Longtime listener, first time caller etc. I actually may not even be able to watch the game tonight much less comment along, but I just want to say you folks run one of the classiest Knickerbocker-related establishments on these here ‘tubes. I look forward to hanging around sometime and getting schooled by people who know way more about statistics than I do.

Anyway… I’m just gonna throw this out there and run: Paul Millsap–the most underrated player in the Association?

  7. Brian Cronin

Anyway… I’m just gonna throw this out there and run: Paul Millsap–the most underrated player in the Association?

At one point, quite possibly. Now, I dunno, I think people get that he’s really good and he’s making a lot of money. So I’d say probably not. My pick for most underrated? Hmmmm…let me think on that for a bit.

  8. Brian Cronin

Okay, I am going to go with Al Horford. People know he’s good, but I don’t think a lot of people get that he’s clearly the best player on the Hawks and one of the best players in the NBA.

Nene is up there, too. People don’t seem to get just how freaky good he has been this year (and heck, his career as a whole has been quite good and he doesn’t seem to get that much attention for it, instead a lot of “Melo is carrying a weak team” stuff).

Millsap, though, is probably still a good choice, because Horford and Nene both make a lot of money, too, but since Horford is the best of the three, I pick him.

  9. Frank O.

    Gooood Evening knickerbloggers!
These west coast games are killing me. Felt like I was walking underwater in the deep end of the pool all day.

    I’d go with kevin Martin

  11. Robert Silverman

flossy: Paul Millsap–the most underrated player in the Association?

Lamar Odom. Having a great year in LA. Can do it all — pass, shoot, rebound, great handle, defend multiple positions

  12. Robert Silverman

Worst hair in the NBA? Kirilenko. Though Gallo may be a worthy challenger in the years to come

  13. art vandelay

yes, frankly I will be highly surprised if they win this one….which is why I thought it was imperative they win last night to at least go 2-2 on the trip.

  14. Frank O.

I mentioned the other day. I watched game 7 of the 1970 championship between the Knicks and Lakers at the relatively new MSG.
What a team. Clyde was unbelievable that night. The shooting was so solid, even with those hard rims. And Willis pushing Wilt further and further from the hoop, bad wheel and all.
    What a game.

The whole game is on youtube. :)

  16. d-mar

I will be shocked if we win this game. Just a rough matchup on a back to back, and they seem a lot more energized than us. But this team has surprised us all year, so who knows?

  17. Frank O.

Does amare always ice both his knees while resting? He looked like patrick used to look at the end of a game with his knees wrapped in ice.

  18. jaylamerique

Frank O.: Chandler has become a great shooter

His midrange shot is really good. I’m really suprised by the player he has become

  19. latke

run coincided exactly with al jefferson’s second foul. Seems do fine against 1 good big, but 2 good bigs cause us real problems.

  20. Fleet19

wow who knew the felton, chandler, mason, walker and Extra E lineup could cut the deficit and get the lead like that.

  21. jaylamerique

Frank O.: Does amare always ice both his knees while resting? He looked like patrick used to look at the end of a game with his knees wrapped in ice.

I bet its the pounding he takes inside

  22. Z

Most under-rated player in the NBA? Possibly Wilson Chandler. I’ve watched him play every game of his entire career, and I only just decided he was a good player a few weeks ago.

  23. chrisk06811

I’m too tired from shoveling to find a creative way to say this. Andre Kirilenko looks like the dude from Rush.

  24. Jimmy C

…. So I just got done watching ‘Inception’, and I can’t figure out if these refs are just nightmarish projections, or if they really are calling all this garbage.

  25. DS

Who knew that a lineup w/ Billy Walker and Roger Mason wouldn’t be able to hold off one of the best teams in the West?! Oh wait.

  26. art vandelay

so basically we are just conceding this game, no? no gallinari, no back-up PG, playing in one of the most difficult arenas to win on the road in the league…

  27. jaylamerique

DS: Who knew that a lineup w/ Billy Walker and Roger Mason wouldn’t be able to hold off one of the best teams in the West?! Oh wait.

He has no choice but to play them

  28. art vandelay

are they calling this game tightly or what…my goodness…any contact is an automatic foul it seems!

  29. Z

If refs don’t want players complaining, they shouldn’t make terrible calls.

How about a new rule: if a ref T’s a player and replays show the player’s histrionics were warranted, then the ref gets fired :)

  30. Z

art vandelay: so basically we are just conceding this game, no? no gallinari, no back-up PG, playing in one of the most difficult arenas to win on the road in the league…

Yeah. Amar’e should have gotten 5 techs yesterday so he could serve his suspension today.

  31. chrisk06811

can anyone identify the tattoo on Bill Walker’s neck? it looks like it was painful to get.

I always wonder when someone gets a tat on his neck, did he just do it to be tough? did he go in the place like “what’s the most painful place I can get a tattoo? OH……what’s second…my neck? lets go with my neck”

  32. eyeke

At the game. The few minutes with all the techs felt like a brawl was about to erupt. Every year the Jazz get up by 20 and the Knicks coke back, im not worried. Jazz have 3 of the best players in the league with Williams Jefferson and Milsap, I can’t believe they continue to crush Jazzfan year after year.

  33. Frank O.

Utah simply cannot keep this kind of shooting up all night.
    54 percent from 3???
And they’re only down by 9.
I thought the knicks D was practically heroic.

  34. jaylamerique

Utah confuses me as a team. I guess they are building themselves up to lose to the lakers again in the playoffs

  35. Robert Silverman

No wonder this is such an awfully officiated game. Bennett Effing Salvatore’s the ref. Worst in the game for the last 25 years

  36. RJ in Brooklyn

color me crazy…but the rhythm seems better since Gallo went down – both offensively & defensively. I believe in Gallo’s ability & what he will become. right now he floats in & out of games too much & needs to step up defensively.

  37. art vandelay

I would leave amare and walker in the game….by the time they get back in late in the quarter or early 4th this game will be out of reach anyway.

  38. Frank O.

    Foul trouble is killing them.
By the way, the Lakers and Utah both have shown that if you pressure the ball and slow the Knicks down, you can really hurt their offense.
This is a little unsettling. Utah has managed for good portions of the game to control the flow and pace.

  39. TheXman

Hah it’s funny listening to these Jazz announcers, u would think this is a blowout. I mean it’s heading that way, but I think the knicks could come back with a flurry of 3’s and fast break points. Would love to hear them shut the fuck up.

  40. Z

If we’re gonna lose big, I hope we lose REALLY big… I’m in the mood to see Anthony Randolph add to his low-light reel.

  41. scogg888

just started watching to that 4 point play, from the comments it looks like we’re on a big comeback no?

  42. Frank O.

Swear to god, I’m going to lose my mind if I see milsap standing without a defender within 5 feet of him. He’s a great shooter and someone is just leaving him alone.
Williams can’t do this all night, but Milsap can hit an open midrange jumper all night long.

  43. Robert Silverman

13 points in 4 22 points in 7 possessions. Unreal. Anyone have Shawne and Billy Dubs in the “Who will lead the Nix in scoring” pool?

  44. art vandelay

when I said knicks would be down big at end of the quarter I forgot to factor in 5 triples in about 3 minutes by Williams…my bad!

  45. rohank

    2 things:

    1) Listening to Link 3 on firstrow.net is really improving my spanish

    2) Whoever said shawne either misses badly or hits the bottom of the net was right on the money, but also – when it rains, it POURS!!!

  46. TheXman

gallo out might be good long-term, develop some confidence in the bench for walker and williams

chandler needs to be more aggro

  47. d-mar

This team… down 14, I’m thinking at least I’ll get a good night’s sleep, 2-2 road trip, and then Extra E. I just can’t get over how resilient this team is, unbelievable.

  48. Frank O.

Jefferson and Williams are very good. Kirelenko also.
But as a whole, Utah has got to be one of the ugliest teams in the NBA…

  49. scogg888

I’m also watching the spanish feed…cinco faltas por felton no esta bueno

me too — I noticed they have a single word for “three point shooter”: triplista.

  51. Frank O.

Robert Silverman: So many effing whistles, I think I got called for five fouls this quarter

Stop it. It’s late, the rest of my family is asleep and laughing out loud will wake them.

  52. Robert Silverman

    Frank O.:
Stop it. It’s late, the rest of my family is asleep and laughing out loud will wake them.

Sorry Frank. Give my regards to the Missus

  53. art vandelay

I don’t think the knicks can get enough stops to win this game…even if they put up 35 in the quarter….I think they probably still lose…hah!

  54. Thomas B.

I don’t think Fields can beat anyone off the dribble. I love him but he cannot create his own offense. Get him an open shot or a put back. Man the Knick defense is awful tonight. And the reserve backcourt is pure ass.

  55. David Crockett

    Good grief DWTDD.

Your +/- this quarter has got to be like negative infinity.

I’ve only seen the 2nd half, but damn. Seems like we are getting ass raped by the officials. I’ve seen multiple over the back fouls called on us and none on them.

  56. Frank O.

I still think they can steal this one.
Utah hasn’t been able to put the Knicks away and the Knicks score in bunches.
Amare is out there. I think this isn’t over. Lots of time.

  57. art vandelay

I was hoping for 2-2 on this trip….so I am content….if they can win the next 2 at home (which they “should”)…then they will be 24-16 and 8 over .500 for first time this season.

  58. Brian Cronin

The best part about the possible Miami loss is that it ruins their shot at the road winning streak record.

  59. Jimmy C

TheXman: when stat gets back in the game the utah lead goes up

Having a smaller lineup actually helped us in that stretch. Seems like the last few games Stat’s reverted back to the habits of the first 10 or so games: ball-stopping, driving aimlessly into traffic, generally trying to do too much. Obviously teams are taking away the P&R more, but Amare’ has to start making better decisions.

  60. Thomas B.

Frank O.: I still think they can steal this one.

Amare is out there. I think this isn’t over. Lots of time.

You took your puff, now pass it this way.

  61. TheXman

all time best games for all of the jazz players, amare with the force, i can’t watch this shit anymore

  62. jaylamerique

Jimmy C: I think Bill Walker had 78 points scored against him tonight.

he is a lazy defender. he doesnt fit through screens and ignores his man

  63. Frank O.

Walker also had to momentum killing plays in this period.
Frustrating. They look like they are pushing close, and then someone does something poorly.

  64. TheXman

chandler not a great game, fields will a couple of bad passes, we weren’t meant to win this game really. jazz 3 days of rest, their front court is superior. Awesome to see Williams light it up, is he better or should I say more consistent than gallo?

  65. Thomas B.

No biggie, 2nd game of a back to back and fourth game on the swing. They all look really tired. Get some rest then get the next two at home and all will be fine.

  66. Frank O.

Williams can shoot, but now they need to teach him to block out. Kirelenko is killing them with the put back dunks

  67. Frank O.

    Thomas B.:
You give up 130 you should expect to lose.

You r very negative tonight, Thomas.
I was hopeful. This is a resilient team.
This game could have been a blow out, but they kept fighting back and this is a team that played a hard game last night.

  68. Jimmy C

Considering how poorly we defended, rebounded, rebounded, rebounded, and defended, you gotta love the fight in this team. Couple of times they could have packed it in and taken a respectable split back home. On a brutal trip like this, defense is usually the first thing to go, and it did. Nice to see our bench forge more of an identity with Gallo out, but I have to say I think we missed him in this one. He may not be the greatest defender, but he would have gotten a lot more stops — and rebounds — than either Williams or Walker, despite how well they both played.

The Queens are in for a drubbing on Friday.

  69. latke

BTW, how do ya’ll feel about Kirilenko as an FA? He’s a smart player, good passer, good help defender, and big enough to play power forward. He can hit the 3 too. He’s shown himself to be a solid rebounder when playing the 4. I wonder what the market is for him though. He’s 29 and is nowhere near the player he was few years ago (3 BPG).

  70. Thomas B.

    Frank O.:
You r very negative tonight, Thomas.
I was hopeful. This is a resilient team.
This game could have been a blow out, but they kept fighting back and this is a team that played a hard game last night.

Negative? Hey I said it is hard to win the 4th game of a west coast swing, I said it hard to win a back to back against a well rested team. I said 2-2 on a west coast trip is very good. Those are all positive things. But I’m not going to ignore Milsap and Miles taking wide open shots near the elbow several times. I’m not going to ignore AK47 years old by now bunking all over the place, TD horrid running of the offense, the vanishing act from Fields and Chandler, ect.

You cant give up 131 points and think it wont be noticed.

  71. d-mar

We beat them when they come to MSG and we’re even. You can’t overreact to the bad D, it was obvious we were tired, we had lots of foul trouble, and Miles hit 3’s from the parking lot. Move on, come home, start another winning streak.

  72. Brian Cronin

Awesome to see Williams light it up, is he better or should I say more consistent than gallo?

No to both. Williams has actually been quite inconsistent since Gallo has been out, scoring-wise, and his defense has been nothing to write home about (note that “nothing to write home about” is a lot better than Bill Walker’s defense, which is “worth writing home to note how bad he is”).

Do note that “not better than Gallo” is not an insult, Williams has been great.

  73. Brian Cronin

The Heat are also now down only three with 5 minutes left in the third. Gee, I wonder who will win that one.

  74. Z

Knicks went 2-2 on a tough western swing. Not bad at all, considering Amar’e played really badly (for him) on the trip.

  75. Ben R

Williams and Walker are both good bench players but both get lost on defense and do not box out. So in limited minutes they can both be a positive but I think on the defensive end and down the stretch we really missed Gallo tonight. Their shooting was great but it really hurts us to have both of them on the court down the stretch.

You cannot blame Douglas’s bad couple of minutes on him. He was hurt and wasn’t supposed to play but because of bogus foul trouble for Felton and no third string PG it forced him into a couple of minutes he had no business playing, it was something that he was even out there. We desperately need to dump either Mason or Rautins and pick up a third string point from the d-league. (I suggest Aaron Miles) We need some insurance at the 1. Mason even if he was hitting his shots is not a 1 and we could barely get the ball up the court when Felton sat in the 2nd.

I think our inability to slow down Williams hurt us way more than their bigs. Their bigs got good shots because Williams was doing what ever he wanted out their.

Overall we looked tired, the officiating was terrible and Utah is a really good, underrated team that is strong at home. No big deal, I’m proud we faught back and I think both Shawne and Walker will be better in the long run due to this extra burn that Gallos injury is giving them.

Now three games we should win before our last tough stretch for a while.

  76. Brian Cronin

Totally agreed. I didn’t have a major problem with this loss. At the very least, they’ve made it easier to get something for Walker if the Knicks choose to go that route.

  77. Caleb

I would say we missed Anthony Randolph. Hope he gets better from the flu soon :)

I’m a little worried about Sacto . Sandwiched between some high-intensity games, 5th game in 8 days, and the 1st date home after a west coast road trip is going to feel like they’re still on the road, fatigue-wise.

Of course the Knicks SHOULD win – they’re a lot better – but it looks like a classic trap game, like our loss to Cleveland.
