I think the effort is there defensively, which is reflected in the stats. But at the same time, good defense is also a result of inept offense at the other end. I'm not saying the Knicks can't or won't play defense better. But I'd like to see the end result of good defense result in a stretch where they win 5 of 6 or 8 of 10.

I've been very impressed with the defense, and I also think that the offense is on the verge of falling in place. I think much of the reason that guys are turning the ball over is that QRich and Crawford haven't been shooting very well. Those two have been passing up on and missing outside shots, which flattens out and clogs the center of the Knicks offense. Those two, who had been reluctant to take 3's, have been throwing a lot of bad passes and eating up shot clock, resulting in turnovers elsewhere. As these two begin to find their range, the offense should open up and run fluidly.

They need to keep playing defense, stop turning the ball over and develop a killer instict when their opponents are down. I still see a lot of lollygagging when they should be pumped up to blow a team out of the game. We'll see if this young squad can develop into a winner...but I still think they need to get rid of Jerome James, Penny, Mo, and maybe even antonio davis. His contract expires next year and he's taking playing time from Frye, Lee, and Butler. Those guys are arguably the future. I wouldn't mind losing games and seeing them develop. But I can't stand losing games w/ vets that aren't gonna be on the team next year.

Of all three, the defensive improvement is what makes me more optimistic. You can't win in this league without playing defense. And, althought the roster is filled with defensively-challenged players, Brown has make them improve on that end.

Of course, the Jazz were depleted last night. It was the kind of game you have to win. And the Knicks won.
