    Re: Dallas’ point of contention:

But the sources said the Mavericks, contrary to what the ESPN report stated, had no indication that the alleged victim was on the verge of reporting her rape claim to authorities.

Why the hell would the Knicks be in a position to know that? This is some lame backtracking by Cuban.

It’s a tanking epic today. The Bulls roster of late is even more scrubsfull than the Knicks’.

Really a terrible article by that Dallas writer Brad Townsend. I understand you want to maintain access to whoever your Mavs sources are (likely Cuban), but for pete’s sake, you might as well byline it as “Ghost writer” rather than put your own name on it. I mean, they’re clear that they knew there was an an extortion attempt, but they couldn’t go the 0.1 step further and ask what the extortion attempt was for? It’s just not credible on its face.

Amazing how different perception is/will be of KP by the time he plays his next game. Since he tore his ACL dunking on Giannis, he’s turned from unicorn golden child into a malcontent with a pain-in-the-ass brother who now is being charged with rape. I hope for everyone’s sake that the rape didn’t happen but this really is no bueno. Crazy that the Knicks got out of that whole situation — kudos to Mills/Perry for getting out in front of all of it.

I want to see Kristaps threaten to take the qualifying offer again.

The amazing thing is he might still get a 5 year max contract.

Since he tore his ACL dunking on Giannis, he’s turned from unicorn golden child into a malcontent with a pain-in-the-ass brother who now is being charged with rape.

And honestly he wasn’t even that good to begin with! I mean, I loved rooting for him in his first two years, but I never got the impression he could be a real star, and neither did the advanced stats.

Mark Cuban likely thought he could take this risk because the lady would either be silenced or the FBI would have closed the investigation before it went public. I really hope Porzingis didn’t do it, but I cannot imagine a woman making such a heavy claim without any element of truth to it. This is a terrible look for Dallas and the Knicks come out looking like geniuses.

And the extortion/rape case likely explains why the Knicks couldn’t tell every team they were shopping Porzingis. Imagine if the Brooklyn/Boston front office got that information and leaked to the press that they couldn’t do the deal due to rape allegations against KP. Or what if this blew up right around free agency? I’m pretty happy he’s gone today.

Well it’s Cuban we’re talking about, so it seems very fitting that he’s not worried about the rape accusations at all, just if they were going to be reported or not.

Just speculating… if the allegation is true about the racially charged statements… he can never play in the NBA. Kobe got away with rape but those statements about “slave” certainly won’t be looked upon kindly.

For KP’s sake I hope this gal has a business she wants to promote on Shark Tank as Cuban will bid very high for it 🙂

Eight months after a 29-year-old woman said that NBA star Kristaps Porzingis raped her inside his apartment, she contacted the New York Knicks’ legal department to seek to “mediate in private” a payment of $68,000, according to emails obtained by ESPN.

At the time of the woman’s documented communication with the Knicks’ legal staff — late October through early November — no criminal complaint had been filed with New York police. The Knicks eventually referred the woman to Porzingis’ personal legal representation.

ESPN obtained a series of text messages between the woman and Porzingis, as well as emails between her and the Knicks. The texts and emails portray a woman who wanted to pursue a romantic relationship with Porzingis in the aftermath of the alleged assault in February 2018, but who also wanted him to honor what she says was his commitment to contribute $68,000 to a college fund for her brother.

According to the emails, the woman, who lived in the same apartment building as Porzingis, told the Knicks that she went to Porzingis’ apartment to get his autograph in the late-night hours after Porzingis suffered a serious knee injury at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 6, 2018. After what the woman told the Knicks was an “extremely aggressive encounter,” she said Porzingis agreed to co-sign a statement with her that promised his payment of $68,000.

Porzingis’ attorney, in a statement to ESPN, said he believes the document is “a forgery.”

    ^ Woj

I liked this story better when I thought the Knicks didn’t know who the accuser was.

My comment on the woj bomb is awaiting moderation but check out ESPN for many more details about the porzingis case.

Since there is no god, it wouldn’t surprise me if this accusation enables Dallas to get Porzingis on a discounted contract, then they win the Zion sweepstakes, then Porzingis gets exonerated and develops into a star, and Dallas builds a great team bc they have KP, Luka, and Zion making $35mm combined.

He’s going to skate if Woj’s reporting is accurate.

He’s going to skate if Woj’s reporting is accurate.

I’m not so sure about this. The interactions in the aftermath may seem damning but there’s plenty of information out there about the effects of trauma (e.g. how it can make people do things that may seem bizarre to observers). The potential forgery situation is certainly a bad look, but it also sounds like there might be a $10,000 medical bill out there. Overall I found the update to be a hodgepodge that didn’t add a ton of clarity in either direction.

He’s going to skate if Woj’s reporting is accurate.

I hope it didn’t happen but if she can document facial surgery a few days after the encounter and the surgeon says it was traumatic of recent origin he may beat rape, but busting up a woman’s face is a pretty serious deal. Again we don’t know if what the woman alleges (about the surgery) is true.

    What a bleepin mess…

If it wasn’t for Barrett’s recruiting hype I think the consensus would be solidly Culver > Barrett. I can only hope the Knicks front office sees it the same way…which is not a thing that has worked out well for me historically.

Overall I found the update to be a hodgepodge that didn’t add a ton of clarity in either direction.

We do know what color her favorite flip flops are now.

And I don’t want to spoil it for you, but any moment now Strat’s take will be “Kristaps has been exonerated.”

I’m not establishing a dispositive claim about Porzingis’s guilt, here. The evidence is making the whole situation even murkier — and I think it’s reasonable to say that in that event, the judgments tend to lean toward the accusee. I will have plenty of time to butter the popcorn, so no rush to judgment from me. Still, 100% sure this trade was a W.

And I don’t want to spoil it for you, but any moment now Strat’s take will be “Kristaps has been exonerated.”

Hey, hey — he’s not the only person on this board who likes to take minimal evidence as part of a summary and make sweeping, decisive claims on a larger, complicated legal matter.

In other news, Mike Tauchman will likely be starting games for the Yankees soon in a season in which they allegedly didn’t have room for Harper or Machado

Were Harper and Machado estimated to be worth their contracts though, even to a team already in win-now mode as the Yankees are?

I guess it depends what you mean by “worth their contracts.” In the first 3-5 years of them, I think there’s little doubt they’ll return value on their AAV/WAR figures. Whether or not they’ll do so over the entirety of their deals is an open question, but also one that shouldn’t matter that much to a team so clearly in win-now mode.

I’m actually sitting at my dining room table reading Neyer’s Power Ball and realizing how little I actually know about the current state of MLB analytics.

Especially given there’s no salary cap in MLB (yet).

That said, I am on board with not signing 10 year contracts through dudes’ age 36+ seasons.

And always possible that eventually MLB has a salary cap also – not sure what happens to these mega-long contracts in that case.

Were Harper and Machado estimated to be worth their contracts though, even to a team already in win-now mode as the Yankees are?

To the Yankees they sure as hell were. 7 of the 9 players in their opening day lineup had a salary under $1mm. And one of the 2 is Brett Gardner, who should have been replaced this winter.

The Steinbrenner children are the worst. I’d rather have Dolan. Not kidding.

The Steinbrenner children are the worst. I’d rather have Dolan. Not kidding.

Assuming you already have Cashman in place and that Dolan trusts him it’s a no brainer to take Dolan. Dolan’s issue has always been that he puts his faith in all the wrong people, not the resources he gives them. If he could just empower the right person for once I think Dolan would be a totally fine owner (as I understand he mostly has been for the Rangers). If we’re imagining dropping Dolan into a non-Cashman world I think it’s a disaster. We’d end up with GM Reggie Jackson.

    Ha! Yeah, good point.

I just don’t know what they were thinking this year. Every major player is signing an extension. The farm system is done spewing out top talent. This was your one shot to get 1-2 elite players for nothing but money, which is your natural advantage.

They will rue this for a long time. I think they’re set up to fail this year and I’d short the hell out of them.

Re Machado and Harper, every team in baseball would have been improved by adding these guys of course. By traditional metrics their contracts were reasonable to cheap in terms of dollar per projected WAR. Yeah, the back end of the deals will be bad but that’s how it goes with these deals, inflation and salary cap expansion should take care of the dead years.

What you saw this offseason was just a classic example of how the baseball FA market is totally disjointed. There are a lot of superteams that had the money and had a vacancy for Machado and Harper. But most of them were already so good, they don’t really need them either. The marginal value in terms of club revenue of adding HarpChado to a team like the Dodgers that’s already projected for 95 wins is pretty minimal. Ditto for the Yankees. They already project to be one of the best teams in baseball. There were a lot of team that are so bad that adding those players wouldn’t be enough to put them in the playoff hunt. There were a few playoff swing teams like the Brewers, Rockies or the Rays who couldn’t afford them or realistically hope to attract them.

Machado and Harper did fine. A lot of baseball players have been getting screwed. Aaron Judge has been outspoken about it but he is a classic case. As a bit of a late bloomer, he will get the total shaft. He’ll exit arbitration (where he will make a little dough tbf) at like 31 and struggle to get anywhere near the contract his past production will merit.

Tonight is a big night for the final stage of the tank. The Knicks’ magic number is 4 — any combination of Knicks’ losses and Phoenix wins with 11 total games remaining between the two. Phoenix plays Cleveland at home and the Knicks face the Bulls. Could breathe easy if tonight goes well.

So…..the Knicks legal team was approached, I guess both by the woman, asking for mediation, and KP’s team, saying he’s being extorted. They would logically say…..for what? So, when they then told Dallas, he’s claiming someone is extorting him, wouldn’t Dallas logically have asked…..for what? I’m not saying what the Knicks did was 100% right, but it seems like the risk here is all on Dallas. they could have pursued / investigated / etc. Imagine how many hours they spent looking into the health of his knee. if they didn’t dive into this, wow….shame on them.

What I mean is, in today’s NBA, if any suggested claim of alleged sexual assault wasn’t taken 100% seriously, then we just aren’t learning anything. So, my conclusion is, either Dallas had all the details and determined she’s full of shit (like perhaps his name being spelled wrong and sig maybe forged might eventually suggest), or they have absolutely no morality for those that they employ.

Is there any advantage to finishing dead last?

Yes. It limits how far you can fall if the ping pong balls all go against you. At most, four teams can leapfrog us. So if we’re dead last, the worst pick we can get is #5. If Phoenix finishes below us, then we can fall to #6, etc.

Not to get into baseball on a basketball blog, but I think the Yankees made the right call on HarpChado. Their offense isn’t the problem; they need more front of rotation pitching. They are still a dominant starter short, particularly given the fragility of pitchers. If they are saving for a huge contract for a top pitcher, their inaction this off season will be validated.

I mean, us Machado work that many more wins than Didi/Andujar? I don’t think so. Harper that many more than Hicks? I don’t think so. Spend the money on starting pitching.

Just imagine it shaking out like this:

    PHX Zion, obv
MIN Barrett, because “BPA” lol and to replace Wiggins after his $150M deal is over
WAS Reddish, with Wall at PG and Beal at SG already on the books for the rest of eternity
    CHA Culver, as Kemba re-signs
    NYK ???
    CHI ???

Chicago is almost certainly taking a PG like Morant if available, so having the guaranteed #5 is huge if you think Morant is a better pick than Clarke (not sure about that yet, but the Knicks need a Morant much more than a Clarke).

Hey, hey — he’s not the only person on this board who likes to take minimal evidence as part of a summary and make sweeping, decisive claims on a larger, complicated legal matter.

LOL. Did you just equate a rape allegation reported to the police this past February with an almost two year federal investigation into a political conspiracy to score cheap points? You must’ve thought the Anucha Browne Sanders harassment lawsuit was the Watergate of the aughties.

You have to wonder how much these allegations factored into not just the Knicks’ willingness to trade him but also KP’s decision to ask for a trade in the first place.

Depends whether Kyrie is really on the table. Gotta figure the Knicks will already know whether or not Durant/Kyrie are coming by draft time… If it’s Kyrie+KD and the Knicks get stuck with #5 I honestly think I’d take Brandon Clarke.

I wonder what’s going to happen with Reddish. If someone picks him top 5 after the year he’s had, it basically throws all statistical measures of production out the window if you happen to be 6’8″ with a 7’1″ wingspan.

I haven’t been able to watch any of the tourney games, but it sounds as if Deandre Hunter has not had a good tournament?

You have to wonder how much these allegations factored into not just the Knicks’ willingness to trade him but also KP’s decision to ask for a trade in the first place.

You might also have to wonder whether KP thought the Knicks didn’t have his back enough in this situation, and maybe that’s why he had a problem with the organization — and that it doesn’t have anything to do with Janis, or Fizdale, or whoever.

LOL. Did you just equate a rape allegation reported to the police this past February with an almost two year federal investigation into a political conspiracy to score cheap points? You must’ve thought the Anucha Browne Sanders harassment lawsuit was the Watergate of the aughties.

Did your normal audience, perhaps Uncle Jim and Aunt Phyllis, block your screeds on Facebook or something? Do you feel like Twitter is nothing more than a place to retweet Glenn Greenwald articles into the void? Are you the guy inexplicably taking hard-line political stances on your LinkedIn profile, showing all of your business associates how much time you’re willing to spend to prove yourself the smartest lil tyke in the room? I feel like this might not be the first well you’ve attempted to poison with your noble-troll buffoonery.

    yay, baseball is back…

so, all together without signing up for nba league pass I still had a chance to watch about 20 or so knick games…which, considering they’ll only win 15 or 16 games this year, may or may be a good thing..

the yankees will probably have about a 100 of their 162 games broadcast nationally…

it’s good to be a yankee fan…my favorite player as a kid was mick (the quick) rivers…I had his battling stance and pigeon toe walk down pat…

I’m pretty sure I could stand up in my office and still do it…

I just did – still got it 🙂

I must be out of the loop – I’m not sure exactly what the animosity against the steinbrenner “kids” is all about…

I was very happy they didn’t pursue machado or harper…I do wish they could have done better work on their starting pitcher – just didn’t seem to be a lot available this off-season…

hopefully paxton and happ will be enough for the time being…

still not sold on boone…I really wish they would have stuck with girardi…

DeAndre Hunter just hasn’t impressed me. His numbers are good and his defensive reputation is high. Not sure why I don’t like him since I should. Seems like a bit of a tweener and I just don’t get a feeling he’s going to be a high impact player in the NBA. But the pedigree is there and the production so I will probably be proved wrong….

I mean, us Machado work that many more wins than Didi/Andujar? I don’t think so. Harper that many more than Hicks? I don’t think so. Spend the money on starting pitching.

Harper was supposed to replace Gardner, not Hicks. The Yanks don’t have a crowded outfield. Stanton is a DH who can’t play LF well. It should have been Harper – Hicks – Judge with Stanton at DH and a Bird/Voit platoon at 1B. Instead we’re going to need either Clint Frazier to overcome his concussions or a 35 year old Brett Gardner to give us 500 ABs

I wasn’t as high on Manny, but the move could have been to trade Andujar for a frontline SP and then sign Manny to replace him. That’s if you want to try to win, though. I’m not so sure they care any more.

And there is no pitcher they’re saving their money for. They could have used Corbin, who signed a reasonable deal, but they cheaped out on him, too.

I get how spoiled this sounds. But this is a team that prints money, charges us a fortune, and is willingly throwing away its natural advantage. Imagine there was no salary cap in basketball and Dolan chose to operate the Knicks like they were the Indiana Pacers. It’s fucked up.

to be honest – sorry to see stanton out for a while, but, excited to see frazier get some playing time…I hope he stays healthy this year…

holy cow, the knicks are favored tonight against the mighty 20 win (everyone who could play has been shut down) bulls…

let’s see if mitchrob can get his first 20/20 game…

hopefully DSJ is back in the starting lineup…I had enough mud this season to last a lifetime…

who let creepy in the door – come on Brian – get on it…

look at that strat – you got a fan…

I’d take it as a sure sign it may be time to reassess some of your perspectives…

    go away creepy…

I wish I knew what magic words lecter used to get that dude to swallow his tongue…

Reub, I know you’re very sad that you don’t get to play in the reindeer games here anymore. It obviously hurts you very deeply.

It’s good to know that you’re still reading every word though, angrily stewing in your decrepit little hovel, emerging to create a fake burner account every now and then to come back and troll for old time’s sake.

    Tell GianaDani we said “hi.”

If we’re picking 5th then it’s between DeAndre Hunter, Bol Bol, and Cam Reddish. Brandon Clarke is not a lottery pick.

I’m just trying to figure out if feags is a sign of creepy’s deep illiteracy, or if he’s using the street slang for what’s named after Giant’s punter Jeff Feagles.

Brian, it’s definitely okay if you ban him before I get an answer.

And yes, I think Geo is correct that those who creepy is advocating for should take a long re-think of their stances. Signs from below are just as important to pay attention to as signs from above…

This isn’t reub/Giana, btw. It’s the Project Knicks/CNA/grand chess master tool. Not hard to figure out, he left his calling card:

And, yes, American blacks will not be handed a free place in society without effort on their part. The only way forward is hard work in their education.

Shall we all carry on as if this worthless intrusion never occurred?

Simple advice from this feag: don’t feed the troll. I lack the tools (I guess) to ban this obvious troll, but in the meantime I’d say let’s focus on us trying to lose this upcoming game.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that guy. A less remarkable troll. Sorry not sorry reub if you’re reading this (you are).

If we’re picking 5th then it’s between DeAndre Hunter, Bol Bol, and Cam Reddish. Brandon Clarke is not a lottery pick.

He might not look the part, but Clarke is better than every single one of them.

I think the consensus should be:

    First tier: Zion

    Second tier: Ja, Culver

    Third tier: Barrett, Clarke

    Fourth tier: Hunter, Hachimura, Bol

Late lottery: Reddish, Langford, Little, Washington

Please note that I’m very generous here with regard to Reddish. I feel like he should be picked 20th or so.

Brandon Clarke is a beast. Admittedly, I’ve only watched him during the tourney, but the eye test definitely supports the stats. He looks like an efficient, highly intelligent player. He was actually very good last year too despite some misconceptions (just no where near this good). Obviously the athleticism, age, and level of competition are dramatically different, but if you love the efficiency of Mitch, you can’t deny Clarke is a solid pick at 5. I might have my Jowles colored glasses on, but I’m taking him potentially as high as 3. He would be a much better fit with Kyrie/KD than RJ (which I think someone already mentioned).

Question for any social scientists on the site: Why do incredibly sad and desperate people try to make others sad and desperate? It’s def not an evolutionary advantage if you believe in all of that evo psych stuff. Any cultural theories? Self-hate?

If we’re picking 5th then it’s between DeAndre Hunter, Bol Bol, and Cam Reddish. Brandon Clarke is not a lottery pick.

I can’t believe quilla19 almost completely overshadowed this. Come on, man! Cam Reddish? I can see Bol over Clarke. I know nothing about Hunter. But Cam Reddish!?

howdy brian… it might be best to get the bulls game thread up a little early…

It’s an expression of powerlessness by exploiting the few vestiges of power left in them. Anger is an expression of fear. In this case, it’s the fear of irrelevancy.

If a troll calls, “Hey, feag!” in the forest, and no one’s around to hear it… the troll ceases to exist.

Hunter and Reddish are trap prospects and should be picked late lottery at the earliest. Bol Bol has a foot injury and is 7’2. I wouldn’t take any of those guys over Clarke.

My big board (not Knicks specific):
    1. Zion
    2. Ja
    3/4. Barrett/Culver
    5. Clarke
    6. Bruno Fernando
    7. Coby White idk (I don’t even like Coby–I think he’s mid lottery talent at best in any average draft–this draft just sucks)
    8. Tyler Herro
    9. Alexander-Walker
    10. Jontay Porter
    11. Bol Bol (higher if healthy, lower if unclear)
    12. Grant Williams
    13. Shamorie Ponds
    14. Gafford
    15. Okeke/Hunter

    First tier: Zion
    Second tier: Ja, Culver
    Third tier: Barrett, Clarke
    Fourth tier: Hunter, Hachimura, Bol
Late lottery: Reddish, Langford, Little, Washington

well i for one am not in the pro-clarke camp…. but i’ve spilled enough internet ink on that…. hachimura is the better pro prospect given he’s established a decent level of play since he was a freshmen but he’s also still just a late lotto type…

langford deserves to be talked about more.. especially if we fall to #5… he is a terror going to the basket and.. unlike with barrett.. he has a myriad of ways he can finish and responds well to size… his first step isn’t that great but he does have a good enough handle where it can develop more.. but more importantly he’s already established that he has a level of creativity and athleticism that will serve him well to adjust to the pro’s….

i’m not sure how deandre hunter got lotto buzz but he’s very much a mid to late first rd type of pick…. the athleticism markers and the eye test shows a very not so explosive player.. both laterally and vertically… he should measure very well but he looks like he moves in quicksand and the numbers back that up.. that’s not good for a SF…

he’s the best player on one of the nation’s best teams but coby white is actually the guy who should have been getting the attention deandre has been getting… and it’s weird that he hasn’t been…

First, I don’t think that Dallas has a leg to stand on (including KP’s good one) to renege on the deal.

Second, this is really disappointing from a human perspective and sorry, I know that I’m going to piss some people off, but either KP or the woman is scum. None of us know the truth, but the world is going to be quick to blame KP. Odds are he did something but in the USA you are innocent until proven guilty.

However, if the woman was assaulted, she needed to go to the police first. It seems strange to me that her first action was to demand money. Again, I don’t know the truth, but NBA starrs look like money trees to many. Both crimes are horrible. If the rape occurred, KP should get used to the short, dirty cots in a prison cell. On the other hand, if the woman was lying, that cell should be hers.

I haven’t passed judgement, but extortion and rape are both heinous crimes.

Brandon Clarke will never be picked in the top half of this lottery. I’d take Clarke ahead of Bol, Hunter, and Reddish for sure, but will he be the pick at #5? No. He’s this year’s DeJuan Blair.

If you want Brandon Clarke, then trade back in the draft. Picking him at 5 would be foolish.

In post 54 I was speaking about the Knicks’ draft board. Brandon Clarke will not be in the discussion that high in the draft for the Knicks or any other team. Tankathon has him 8th, ESPN has him 12th and Bleacher Report has him 14th, so I guess I was wrong about not a lottery pick. Top 5 though? Trade out of the pick.

However, if the woman was assaulted, she needed to go to the police first.

But do you understand why when this doesn’t happen?

I have to admit that this year I just haven’t followed the potential picks as much. It’s just so obvious that Zion is #1 and the Knicks will pick #5, I’m like pre-depressed or something. Brian responded, but #5 is good! We should be happy! But I’m just not feeling it. We have such a good window to create a good team, and yet… And yet…

This guy is all but a lock to be there at #5, especially since he won’t get a Final Four bump. Watch his post moves. He’s equal parts Siakam and John Collins IMO. Not sure if he’ll experience the meteoric improvement in 3P% like Siakam, but his athleticism, instincts, touch and defensive awareness are second only to Zion in college ball. The guy is just a pure baller and the stats back that up.

I am starting to warm to Clarke if we don’t pick #1. Zion appears as close to a lock as you can get, but any of Ja, Culver and Clarke would be a nice consolation.

Say worst case scenario is we pick 5, assuming Morant goes top 3, do you take Clarke at 5 or trade down in the hope he is still there. 5 doesn’t seem too high for Clarke based on his stats in comparison to other lottery prospects, however mocks/big boards have him anywhere between 8 and mid 1st round. Pending how the lottery goes do we look at trading our 1st (if it doesn’t fall top 3) for 8-10 plus a 2020 first? I personally wouldn’t be adverse to trading down, however it seems a bit risky given how the talent appears to tail off after about pick 4 or 5.

Of course, but if you read the latest reports the alleged incident occured at 2am yet she decided to stay with KP until 11am. Then her FIRST move was to call the Knicks to mediate about the money. Read the ESPN report. This is looking much more like extortion than rape. Let the legal system tackle this, but my point is that it’s so easy to cry rape and there’s no defense. You’re tried publicly and your reputation is ruined. It’s important to not rush to conclusions about KP or the woman yet KP’s rep in now in trash and there’s nothing that will restore it.

but my point is that it’s so easy to cry rape

This is where you’re wrong. Do you have any idea what happens to women, truthful or not, after they go public with rape allegations against rich, famous, powerful men?

Since I’m always one to jump in on Yankees talk I’ll chime in. This was a controversial offseason with not even entertaining signing Harper and only Machado on a shorter deal. Looking at what they both signed for you can definitely see why they didn’t go there especially with Stanton’s contract on board and God knows how much they’ll have to pay Judge soon. But considering MLB has no salary cap and the luxery tax penalties are not really that harsh it’s easy to call Hal cheap even though this year they will be back paying the luxury tax.

However I’ve read a ton of articles about how much the Yankees invest on non-payroll stuff like their analytical department, things like teachers in the minor leagues so the foreign players can learn english, their minor league clubhouses etc and they still employ a huge scouting dept which alot of teams have severely cut back on with the increase of analytics. Some of this stuff may seem like obvious things to do but alot of franchises don’t invest that much on these things while the Yankees invest heavily on this stuff. It’s one of the main reasons why they have become so good at developing their young talent now.

I will take Hal Steinbrenner 1,000,000 times over Dolan. Also the Yankees will win the World Series this year 🙂

I think Hubert summed it up pretty well. The team is very, very good (probably my objective World Series pick before all these injuries) but it was obvious to everyone paying attention that upgrading it to the maximum extent possible was not the highest priority. If it was, there were moves to be made.

I know it seems nitpicky (coming off a 100 win season, arguably World Series favorites), but when you compare the Yankees’ revenue vs payroll expenditure to all MLB teams they’re in the bottom third of the league. The revenue they generate really is on an entirely different level from just about anyone else. I guess, given that, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask that money gets spent on all of the non-payroll stuff BBA mentioned (which I do believe is a very good investment) AND make obvious upgrades when it’s possible to do so using just money (not very often these days, look at all the recent extensions).

three pretty strong drives right for Knox including one where he took contact from RoLo

Yes. Go to the police. Don’t negotiate for money.
