Gordon scored 20 of his 31 points in the first quarter and the Magic held off two New York rallies to beat the skidding Knicks 131-117 on Sunday night.

    Nikola Vucevic had 28 points, 10 rebounds…

    Look away, Knicks fans.

  • [NYPost] Knicks rookie plays more like project than shot-blocking whiz
    (Sunday, November 18, 2018 6:31:55 PM)

ORLANDO, Fla. — One week ago, center Mitchell Robinson blocked a Knicks rookie-record nine shots against the Magic at the Garden. Orlando coach Steve Clifford said he was on “my board” during preparations for the rematch. On Sunday, Robinson got rejected by the referees. In a foul-plagued performance, Robinson looked a lot more like a…

ORLANDO, Fla. — One Scott Perry lottery draft pick from the past starred. Perry’s most recent lottery pick was awful. The Knicks’ losing streak hit five games as Orlando power forward Aaron Gordon chewed them up for 31 points while rookie Kevin Knox suffered through a low-effort performance as the Magic captured a 131-117 rematch…

  • [NYPost] Fizdale throws a little cold water on possible Porzingis return

ORLANDO, Fla. — David Fizdale hasn’t gotten word to suggest Kristaps Porzingis is close to being allowed to practice with the team. Nine months after his ACL surgery, Porzingis raised eyebrows last week with remarks in a magazine interview in which he said, “I’m already doing some contact drills and things where I’m competing against…

ORLANDO, Fla. — As the Knicks’ won-loss record grows worse, so does the frown on center Enes Kanter’s face. Knicks coach David Fizdale is not just juggling lineups but the egos of his veteran players, who are looking to win and are in their contract years. A free agent in 2019, Kanter issued another cryptic…

I know we are not supposed to be good this season. But..how is it that Orlando has our number…easily? This is ridiculous!

Maybe Clifford is a better coach than the Hornets have given him the credit for. Our defense is bad, but they score way too easy on us. Or maybe it’s possible that I’m underestimating Vucevic and Gordon just a tad. I dunno..but whatever it is, I don’t like it lol

Look, I get Kanter’s defensive weaknesses, but the man put up 21 and 19.
Anywhere else, they would think he’s a superstar.
I think sometimes the critiques on this board are a bit distorted.
If the rest of the Knicks were a bit less porous, if they defended the 3 pt line better, and if their missed assignments were reduced, this team would have more wins.
Fact is they still lack discipline in crunch time and stop playing together when things go south a bit.
They lack a leader. Kanter isn’t a leader off the bench.
They need a general on the floor to be calling plays and holding guys accountable.

I’m not sure he’d be a superstar elsewhere, but I do think this board is too hard on him sometimes. I didn’t see the second half of the game, but in the first half I thought he had some good defensive moments, and he clearly scored and rebounded well. This is one game he should get some credit for.

One shot in 22 minutes for Frank. Something is wrong. Meanwhile he lead the team in +/- with a plus 10.

    Weird…

He’s been other places. They had the same view of him that we do. One of his former teammates was outright mocking his defense the other game against OKC.

It’s a hard concept to grasp, but they keep score for the other team as well. The team that gives up the least points wins just as many games as the team that scores the most.

It’s not a coincidence that Orlando’s momentum slowed and the score got close when Fizdale put Frank (and to a lesser extent Dotson) in the game. His offense is a catastrophe at the moment, whether you want to blame shoulder injuries, confidence or whatever, but he had a very clear defensive impact on things last night.

Kanter’s plus minus for this particular game was pretty good (-4 in 38 minutes). I think this reflects the reality that his offense was better than usual and his defense less bad than usual. He had three assists and a block to go with his points and rebounds. That was the most assists on the team. Fizdale gave him a lot of minutes, so he seemed to think he was playing well too.

Kanter is more of a “most liked teammate” than a leader. You can’t lead a team if you’re getting torched in the pick and roll every single time because then you just look like a hypocrite.

We don’t need Kanter to be a leader. We already have the “leader that suck at basketball”.

    It’s Lance Thomas.

Kanter really is a test for the stat types. He’s like a turbocharged David Lee. I don’t think he is worthless but as I said last night, it’s hard to believe how bad he is on defense sometimes. I think it might be a toss up on D between him and Bargnani which is crazy when you see the athleticism (second jump especially) he displays on the offensive end. I don’t really get it with him. He seems to have the physical tools.

At the end of the day, I’d rather have the Accumulator than Melo. Fun guy too. But yeah, he’s a real mystery…

Anywhere else, they would think he’s a superstar.

He was traded for a super duper star. So he’s a super duper star too. And that’s factorial.

This team really has me miffed. This really isn’t hard. The team is very young and sucks very hard. It is a developmental year …. soooo…. develop the young players. Nobody gives a flying F$%# how many games they win.

Play M Rob as many minutes as he can eat. Play Knox as many minutes as he can stand as long as he is playing hard. He is going to play dumb a lot of the time, but coach him up and give him reps. Maybe he is a player or maybe he isn’t but it would be nice to have some clear idea if there is anything there and if he is horrible, great for the tank.

With Frank, tell him he plays the first and last 8 minutes each half for 32 a game so he can stop looking over his shoulder worrying about making mistakes. Tell him the only time he will get pulled is if he passes up clear and open looks or doesn’t play hard. He is by far the best defender on the team and has earned this respect.

In poker there is a saying that weak-tight players are MUBsy (looking for monsters under the bed) and Frank looks that way and he can’t play that way. Give him a set of parameters and let him work through them.

Tell Kanter’s agent to find a club with an expiring and a second if he thinks he is so valuable and we’ll be happy to accommodate him and if he can’t STFU and sit down until the trade deadline when we’ll release him for the club of his choice. Playing Kanter a single minute tells everyone we don’t give a shit about defense.

If Hardaway is movable for anything and an expiring, God bless.

And how about Fizdale installing a non iso-zo offence? And please God stop yo-yoing these kids in and out of the line-ups. Play the young guys with a potential future here steady minutes in steady roles. This really isn’t Boolean Algebra.
