While it is very true that great deals are in fairly short supply, the market for NBA players is in no way efficient. A small market with extremely limited supply of talent coupled with ‘purchasers’ frequently using wildly inaccurate performance data (eye test)

what are you talking about – me and james jones got this stuff stuff figured out…

heck, with a simple of use of the never fail eye test i can clearly and emphatically state that joakim noah is poised to regain his dpoy form; and, mister jones has help place the phoenix suns in a great position to dominate the league for years to come…

we don’t need no stinkin’ numbers…

The Sun’s owner is threatening to move the team to Seattle or Vegas if Phoenix doesn’t give him 150 mil for an arena renovation.

A Deadspin commenter suggested changing it to the Seattle Rain, but that just seems mean to me. Cloud might be good. Little double entendre.

we don’t need no stinkin’ numbers…

For the Suns, that includes their win-loss record.

The Sun’s owner is threatening to move the team to Seattle or Vegas if Phoenix doesn’t give him 150 mil for an arena renovation.

Rhetorical question Does anyone pay that back when they sell the team?

The Seattle Suns will be the most ironically named team in the league

Even more so than a Lakers team in water starved Los Angeles? Or my own personal favorite, a team named Jazz in the land of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir?

Rhetorical question Does anyone pay that back when they sell the team?

Apparently the legislation has a clause that assesses the Suns a 200 mil fine if they skip town too soon after getting the, um. Kickback? Ransom money?

    Popper:

As expected Knox is starting tonight. “Why the hell not?” Fizdale Said.

I’m still not sure how good a coach he is, but I find Fiz very entertaining.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Knicks lineups feat. Ntilikina & Dotson are allowing an eFG% of 50.6% in 298 minutes, which is 5th among 52 combos that have seen at least 100 minutes of court time for NY acc. to http://NBA.com . Their net rating of 2.1 is also 5th.

Small sample size, but when the Knicks run a lineup of Mudiay-THJ-Knox-Vonleh-Kanter, opponents are shooting an effective FG% of 75.5%, per @cleantheglass

good to see we’re going to spot the cavs a few points in the first quarter tonight…fiz is going to have to get a little creative in securing this loss…

    How about

    Seattle Antitrust Lawsuits
    Seattle Homeless Crisis
    Seattle Corporate Welfare Kings
    Seattle Illegal AirBnBs
    Seattle $40 Consumer Surveillance Devices
Seattle Foreign Cash Investors Fucking Up Our Housing Market
    Seattle Exploited Warehouse Laborers

good to see we’re going to spot the cavs a few points in the first quarter tonight…fiz is going to have to get a little creative in securing this loss…

I’m legitimately starting to think Fiz is a genius. “Starting Hezonja for defense”, was another tank commanding genius move as well as benching Dotson after our defense got too good.

I think Seattle would probably want a good team to relocate there. Although interestingly enough, reading old articles on Seattle basketball post OKC, it sounds like the fan base would hate having a team if it meant a team relocating.

At any rate, Fiz is going to have to pull out all the stops to out tank Cleveland tonight.

I think there’s no way the Suns are moving, Sarver is just making a power play to get more money. But I did think there was no way the Sonics were ever moving, so I guess it might just happen… I would love to see the NBA back in Seattle, I always liked the Sonics, but getting a Sarver owned team would be pretty shitty.

I actually hope Kornet gets a legitimate look. He at least theoretically is a very nice player for the modern NBA, with the only problem being he probably sucks.

Hezonja is undergoing the miraculous Fizdale benching rejuvenation process. Guaranteed to rejuvenate wayward basketball players and possibly uses leeches.

    and possibly uses leeches.

    doesn’t everyone?

edit: i’m still laughing on the leeches…that was a good one early bird…

The worst thing about this is that Cleveland is so bad that they’ll probably cool down massively in the second half and the Knicks can still win.

    @36
I get the same feeling. Knicks could win this. But then again, we could see more Kornet!

For some strange reason, I want to see Baker guard Dellavadova.

Is Luke Kornett playing, or am I drunk on a Wednesday

I hope it’s a “yes, and” type of situation.

This Sexton fellow seems pretty okay. Shame he was off the board when we picked..

For some strange reason, I want to see Baker guard Dellavadova.

man, that’ll be like watching the ufc…

maybe Courtney Lee demoted himself to avoid watching this

just looking at the box score, it doesn’t seem that terrible, combined 11 turnovers, 17 fouls, 21 assists and both teams are shooting 40% from three…

mario is a plus 11 for the game so far 🙂

Okay time to close out the game with a Baker, Super Mario, Kornet, Knox, and do we still have Lance Thomas lineup.

do not toss your baby to Mitchell Robinson

    That made me chuckle…..

Count De Pennies – I can see a Deadspin feature on the most ironically named NBA teams coming.

I have only watched 5 minutes of this but outtanking the Cavs looks like it’s going to be tough…

Gotta like how Frank is looking tonight. And Kevin Knox is definitely the starter for the rest of the season.

    Listening to these Cavs homers,
    Good lord.
Deli this and Deli that. Deli made it with pastrami on it. Delia deli deli.
    Christ.
And then the Knicks come back

Ok I take back what I said about benching Frank.

    Now start him!

I cannot remember ever seeing Frank Ntilikina look this sure of himself on offense. This guy we’re seeing right now? Don’t know him.

Frank clearly got the message: we’re gonna play this scrub Mudiay over you if you don’t ball hog Forget about that whole distribution thing – shoot!

Blossomgame, what a great name. His grandfather made a killing in something plant related ugh, so bad.

In good news, MitchRob hates Dellavadova as much as everybody else does!

I really hope that Frank, Knox and Robinson all get to play together a lot. With Trier, too, when he comes back.

Timmy taking two charges in one game! He really wants to stay among the league leaders.

Fizdale really has got to be with the tank to take Frank out and keep Mudiay in the game.

Mudiay really tears me up, I know he’s good for the tank, but I can’t stand watching him play basketball

To be clear, I didn’t want to pick Knox. I wanted SGA.

To be clear, Knox has mostly been terrible.

    But…

I do see some glimmers of potential there. I can imagine that an off-season of NBA conditioning and strength training would have a really big effect on his game.

Knox just got sonned. But good for him to get the block on the other end.

    And a 3!

    And that pretty awesome slam!

Look, if Frank and Knox lead us to wins, what the hell, right?

I also can see glimpses of a real good NBA in Knox.

Cavs have no business coughing up the lead.

I get that a loss is more likely to help the Knicks than a win in the long term.

I can’t help rooting for a buzzer beater to win this game.

    Frank
    Knox
    Mitch
Trier (if we can figure it out)
Vonleh (if we can figure it out)
    KP
    2019 pick

That was a pretty sweet take from Hood. Frank was right on him – though a little short.

Best case scenario: Mudiay takes it himself, misses, Knicks lose.

Mudiay taking that shot was tank insurance.
I dare anyone to say differently.

Do I hate or love Mudiay right now? I’m honestly confused. Dialectics at its best, I guess

it looked like Mudiay ditched the play and just improvised. that kanter screen was a fake and he went to set a secondary screen, pretty sure Mudiay was supposed to see if Knox broke open on the back cut or look for Timmy coming off the real kanter screen

I mean with no timeouts Mudiay does have to just throw it in, but maybe don’t throw it directly to one of the Cavs

Sorry, ephus. I hear you. But I really want a high draft pick, because I do think there’s enough talent on this team that, should KP return healthy and play well next year, will not see another high draft pick for a while.

That was a really bad sequence for Mudiay. He did get fouled on the miss though. Terrible inbounds pass. but why didn’t anyone go TO the ball?

Anyway, this is good for the tank, right?

@111 you can see his improvements, but still too much WTF in his game. And that’s not even getting into his D.

If you were able to watch Mudiay everyday in practice, you’d know that he makes those plays 8 out of 10 times.

I only caught the very end, but a hell of a L. Zion, baby. Zion.

Mudiay literally cannot move … I don’t like the guy but there are 4 other guys that HAVE TO GET OPEN and yes they are allowed to move… a lot…

Anyone going to opine about rodney hood going right at Frank and getting a critical bucket? Size advantage? Vet savvy?

The Nets also beat the Sixers, so this is a huge loss for the tank. Ntilikina and Knox both played well, the tank commander clutches the L, this ended up being a pretty good outcome.

Holy shit Spencer Dinwiddie has 35 points. I don’t get why the Nets don’t commit to him starting instead of Russell, he’s so much better.

Anyone going to opine about rodney hood going right at Frank and getting a critical bucket? Size advantage? Vet savvy?

good offense beats good defense in today’s NBA

Oh sorry I forgot I haven’t watched Nets practices so I can’t possibly know that Dinwiddie should be playing over Russell.

Yeah, Hood has 3 inches on Frank and simply used his size very well.

@132 Wally just quoted you almost verbatim.
I am now a believer of your powers. Lol

The last few games have started to give me a better idea of what Kevin Knox: Good Player could look like. He’s got a loooooooong way to go, and he still looks like he has no clue what he’s doing most of the time, but if we can get him to stick to a few simple things maybe we can avoid that pick being a disaster.

Holy shit Spencer Dinwiddie has 35 points. I don’t get why the Nets don’t commit to him starting instead of Russell, he’s so much better.

As I wrote in today’s thread, I’d sign him or Tobias Harris. We aren’t getting Leonard or Durant, so those would be the guys I’d target with our space. If we go for Dinwiddie, we let Burke and (lol) Mudiay go.

@137 He moves like a newborn giraffe or gazelle. I do think that he’ll be a much better NBA athlete with a full NBA offseason training regimen.

Harris is fine but he’s going to get overpaid by someone. you don’t want to be that someone..

I didn’t see the game, but just looking at the box score, both Ntilikina and Knox had better stat lines than Sexton did. That is encouraging.

    Also. Timmy… sore loser there.

To be fair, that dude shouda been T’d up. Good loss though, pretty happy. Gonna give my cavs fan friend the business tomorrow.

I really like Tobias Harris and I think his improvement this year is for real, so I wouldn’t hate it if we ended up with him, but I agree that he will be too overpaid to be worthy. Dinwiddie would be very nice on a good contract, which might be possible because the market for PGs is in a weird place with so many teams having young guards.

No one is “catching” the Suns for dead last in the league. They’re the only horrible team in the entire West right now, and it’s not close right now.

But worse in the East? We have a shot.

You can fairly easily envision Kevin Knox, good scorer (KKGS). His shot profile already is pretty good, mostly 3’s and at the rim. KKGS would look a lot like current Kevin Knox but the shots would be going in a lot more frequently.

The coaching staff has to do for Knox what they did for Mudiay in terms of fixing his finishes at the basket. Knox has so many skills, but has no goddamn clue what to do when he attacks the hoop in the half court. Just correcting his technique in that one area will pay very big dividends, I believe.

I’d say Cleveland and the Knicks are neck in neck in suckiness so it may come down to who comes back sooner and is more effective between KP and Love (and I think we have the advantage there as far as losses go). Atlanta has been better since Collins came back so they might be in play as well.

Also, why is it that when Frank shoots well the rest of his game seems to suffer? That’s back to back sub-par defensive games from him and the couple of nice passes he threw were off-set by some bad turnovers. Still, baby-steps- very encouraging for him struggle shooting in the first half and not get discouraged and disappear on offense.

As for Knox, he’s looked like an actual NBA player pretty much since the Milwaukee game- not a good NBA player but a guy who looks like he might have a chance to be good down the road. If he gets a little stronger and improves his handle he’s going to be able to score- he can shoot the three and get out in transition. Is he going to be able to consistently rebound and at least be adequate on defense? We’ll see.

@132 Wally just quoted you almost verbatim.
I am now a believer of your powers. Lol

I suddenly feel less confident in myself (but not in PIPM, which I learned this from)

We may also run into trouble with Knox in that his best defensive position will be power forward, and we’ll have KP there or maybe, if we’re really lucky, Zion. Knox can play the 3 on offense but gets killed defending it. Not that he’s a good defender yet at the 4, but it’s like Melo, where playing there maximizes his strengths and minimizes his weaknesses. And there might not be a ton of minutes there unless KP finally moves to center full time.

    @132

Maybe we put Zion at point guard or small forward 🙂

that would be a nice problem to have

why can’t the commissioner simply force the pels to trade anthony davis – for the betterment of the league…

    Good loss, Wow, Kudos

So the Cavs have the worst D-Rating of all time. These Knicks are 7th worst of all time. And there are 6 2018-2019 teams currently in the bottom 15 of all time.

Are defenses that much worse this year, or are offenses that much better?
