Knicks could be welcome sight for Celtics

BOSTON — On paper, a visit by the lowly New York Knicks should be just what the doctor ordered for the struggling Boston Celtics.

    @2

Agreed, tbh I’d prefer Nas to him, at this point. He’s been the least impressive of the 4 despite having the greatest leash due to his hype.

He’s still been very good, however

Man, Duke has been outplayed nine ways till Sunday and they’re just physically overpowering the Zags.

On the draft, I saw a mock based on current standings that had the Knicks picking Quentin Grimes out of Kansas at #5. Has anyone seen him play? Based on what scouting reports say, he looks to to be able to play on and off guard and and is a solid defender. IMO opinion if we are going guard, it needs to be a pure point as opposed to another tweener.

Obviously mocks at the stage of the year can be taken with a grain of salt, but always interesting to speculate anyway.

Never mind, Barrett taking some crazy drives in the final minute costing Duke the game.

Grimes has had a weird start to his season. Shooting incredible from 3pt range on a ton of attempts but only shooting 30%(!!) from 2pt range and 67% from FT line.

If they are going to start a traditional SF then just start Knox and let him play thru his ups and downs.

I guess maybe Duke’s not the best team ever.

Counting on freshman to carry your team, no matter how talented they are, is fraught with uncertainties.

Knox’s body language is always really bad I feel like

Seeing happy faces on the bench is surprisingly contagious. I’m cool with this being our one clear, blowout win of the season.

Also, Burke has 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists already in 13 minutes. This guy is catching fire

Whatever the result, it is a nice feeling knowing that the Knicks were able to cause the home Celtics fans to turn on their team rather than the Knicks drawing the usual ire of the MSG crowd.

It feels good to kick some Celtic ass. Eff the tank.

    Although our defeat is inevitable….

Al Horford still got it. He’s been a really underrated guy….

Man, I want this to be a win so much to keep the Celtics in crisis, I’ll praise Trey Burke everyday if it’s necessary.

Let’s all say a nice thing about the current roster during the half to keep that good juju flowing.

I’ll start – the Knicks no longer employ Andrea Bargnani.

Is it a coincidence that both conferences’ player of the week (Vucevic and Anthony Davis) played the Knicks this week?

Just as we were praising Hardaway yesterday, he’s been very hard to watch this game.

Robinson is blocking the Celtics harder than . . . I don’t know, a colorful metaphor about Tinder creeps that’s not quite coming to me right now.

Of note: Vonleh is 2/2 from 3. His ordained limit of 2 threes a game has held so far.

Robinson showing tonight he can grab defensive rebs when he is actually in the paint and not running around trying to block shots on the perimeter.

You could see Hayward realize that Mitch was in front of him and immediately not want any of that.

Great play by Knox to foil that Celtics fastbreak and knock the ball loose off Horford.

Yeah tonight has just not been a good look for Hardaway. This is last year’s Timmy in all the worst ways.

I’ve never understood why a clear path foul is 2 shots and the ball. One shot and the ball makes a lot more sense.

Was about to write what an excellent game for Frank tonight then I check the box score and he has 6 pts but is 0-2 from 3pt range and has literally 0 stats for all the other categories except for 1 turnover.

This is awesome. Of all the lineup combos we’ve tried, this one he’s going with in the 4th is my favorite.

    Trey
    Timmy/Trier
    Frank
    Knox
    MGod

That’s the perplexing thing about what to do with Frank. He’s not really a PG at this stage, but when you take the ball out of his hands, he doesn’t get as many shots or assists. So he loses even more value on offense. Perhaps the “team” is better off on a net basis, but his personal value drops. The one legit criticism is that if you aren’t playing PG, you should have an equal or greater number of rebounding opportunities, but he’s down from last year despite being a little taller and stronger.

If they blow this one, it’s really going to hurt.

@66 We’re gonna argue about this till the end of time, but his defense has been outstanding in this game, more than enough to compensate for lack of offensive stats

This is less awesome. Why is Robinson out? The Celtics eyes lit up without him in the lane.

Seriously. D on Kyrie, D on Tatum, D on Hayward. He’s been immense.

Frank’s defense has been tremendous tonight. Just watch him. I do hope he improves a lot on offense.

I agree which is why I said to me he was having an excellent game but seriously 0 rebs, stls, blks, anything.

As much as I hate the Celtics, this loss would help deliver us a Celtic killer for the next 15 years

I think I may read the Boston newspapers tomorrow just for laughs. Losing to the Knicks on your home court when NY was on a back to back? Yikes!

This is a good game for the development of the kids. Now when they come down the stretch of a tough game maybe there will be a little less tightness and fear of collapsing. So they will execute a little better. Of course they also have to learn how to handle the pressure of a playoff drive, then the playoffs, and then deep in the playoffs. It’s a long path, but #babysteps

These are the games you don’t worry about the tank. I’ll gladly take this W.

Frank and Mitch on D were so fun to watch in the 4th. Celts wanted nothing to do with either of them.

    Strong game from Knox, too.

Gotta say Kyrie’s body language was terrible all game. Seemed frustrated by his bum teammates inability to shoot, or maybe the terrible coaching they were getting from the bench.

yeah…. I’d much rather have Kanter stuffing the offensive stat sheet with a glossy ws/48 than Frank putting the vaginismus clamps on the entire Celtic offense. Pro tip…. watch the game and look at the stat sheet a little less.

    Esoteric stat of the week:

As of yesterday when I looked, if you filtered Drtg in the entire NBA by >22m/g (to screen out non-rotation players on short minutes )5 Grizzlies and 4 Celtics were in the top 12 in Drtg!

I’m guessing my “eye test” isn’t wrong when it tells me G Hayward isn’t the 9th best defender in the NBA 🙂 You can’t quantify the value of defense nearly as easily as offensive efficiency.

He doesn’t have to do much on offense to be a net plus player.

I keep waiting for him to have a break out game that enhances his confidence. It’s going to happen, but it’s like pulling teeth waiting. He’s struggling so badly from 3 right now.

You just watched it. He was a beast.

Frank’s definitely been learning to go to the hole, but D is always gonna be his thing. Face it, our boy is a born power bottom.
