Just spitballin…. but a perfectly painless way to dump THjr contract to a team that makes sense. Philly is desperate for bench scoring and Vonleh is an upgrade over Ill Will/ Muscala. Hardaway was born for the role of green lighted 6th man…..

    http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yahzo6e8

OKC needs bench scoring, but I don’t see a match there….

    I say, done deal!

Unfortunately, I’m not running the Sixers!

How can they NOT do it? +4 wins!

Quick, before Doncic puts up 25-8-8 tonight… how many people wouldn’t trade Porzingis for Doncic straight up?

    Identify yourselves.

Stop trolling….if he only puts up 25-8-8 v knox/hardaway he should be ashamed of himself….

KP has undeniable talent but I am amazed here people wouldn’t drive him to the airport in a reasonable AD deal.

Doubt you’ll get any bites on that one. Even if there’s maybe a case that KP’s upside (like 90th percentile outcome) is greater than Doncic’s (because his potential defensive value is so much greater) KP has so much more downside due to his offensive value being currently totally hypothetical, and the fact that he’s coming off an injury while Doncic has already established a really high level of play and is not currently recovering from an ACL tear. Throw in the fact that you control Doncic longer and get those ultra valuable rookie scale years and there’s way too many factors in his favor.

So what’s he doing buying time?

Talking over the situation with his team and owner? The Pelicans struggled to hold onto a dwindling fan base even with one of the top stars in the league. They probably can’t afford to just muddle along, no matter what they are saying right out the gate. They definitely should be introspecting, whether or not they are.

the thing tht jumps out this year watching mavericks games (besides luka) is how much harder kleber plays on d than DJ. he’s got more blocks in half the minutes.

Even if KP reaches his upmost potential, high usage primary ball handlers like Doncic generally have more value. Its similar to the AD vs. Lebron, Giannis and Durant posts from the last few days.

@1 this would make much more sense if it wasn’t pretty well-known that Philly wants to maintain cap flexibility this summer. They’re confident they can use their cap space more efficiently than it’d be used on THJ and there’s about a 99% chance they’re correct.

Also this “not answering the phone” thing is exactly the kind of tidbit that gets overblown because it’s so shareable as a funny tidbit. One reporter reported this which probably means that like one or two people told him that they were having a hard time getting Demps on the phone. Given that every team in the league is probably trying to at least touch base on this (even those who have no plans to acquire Davis might be interested in facilitating etc) and that he’s for sure hugely busy internally as they scramble to figure out their plans/goals the fact that a couple people got an answering machine isn’t exactly shocking.

I don’t think we are dumping salary on philly. A better move would be to try and get one of their younger guys, makes them better this year and saves them money next year. Something like:

Vonleh + Burke for Smith or Fultz

They probably say no but that’s the type of trade I’d be trying to do.

Presumably they didn’t know it wouldn’t work out with a star like Davis. Big stars in smaller markets has worked before – it’s a big part of why the draft exists in the first place. Presumably they also didn’t know Katrina would permanently reduce the size of the media market.

So, slow bleed with lesser players? Or take a big initial hit and try to rebuild? Seems not obvious.

How did Doncic get past THjr like that.

I am going to be so pissed we didn’t get Doncic by the end of this game.

You can tell me about DSJ’s flaws all day and night and be correct about every single one of them. You’re never going to convince me that we didn’t make a massive mistake in the 2017 draft.

@1 this would make much more sense if it wasn’t pretty well-known that Philly wants to maintain cap flexibility this summer.

How much “flexibility will they have. The have 52m allocated to 7 players next season after Butler opts out plus cap holds. Assuming they will resign Butler to the max there isn’t a lot left over for another major player, no?

knox is doing that thing where it looks like he wandered into the court to ask for directions

Mitch Rob with a super impressive block of a Doncic stepback three. That was something.

Love how much they are featuring Mitch

No one steps back on Mitch. He blocked Harden a few times too, and now Doncic. If he ever learns to really play the game of basketball this kid will be a superstar.

Mavs announcers say Mitch is the first player to successfully block a Luka 3PA. Who’s the best rookie now?

on the other hand might be time to start to panic a little about the ft shooting

Nothing to panic about…. he’s a 45% ft shooter. How about a little coaching. Even Clyde says from the sideline he holds the ball improperly in his hand. Don’t the Knicks have like 7 assistant coaches? Jesus KP could show him the proper technique.

All I want for the rest of the season is for them to force feed Mitch like a foie gras duck.

Dirk is still so effing smooth

    @9

What is that in response too?

Doncic is a great player who is an old vet as a rookie. Can he defend his position like kp can?

Knox having one of his hot flashes here

Also, I don’t know if Wes Matthews was in Cobra Kai but I dig his look

    it’s been a while since i’ve checked in on timmy’s fg% for the season…holy shit – a 2 guard who shoots 39%…

man, i just don’t understand why we can’t trade this guy…

Any game where the tank looks to be running in a ditch Field Marshall Fizdale can save the day by removing Mitch, Dotson and Trier and put the starters back in!

Knox absolutely will not pass the ball.

7 assists for this whole bozo squad in the first half.

Mitch! With the stuff on Smith.

He makes me so happy. It’s like a young Tyson Chandler out of the second round.

    Wes Matthews came to play

knox might be the worst defender in the league

Might??? To borrow from Hamlet….”“Seems,” madam? Nay, it is. I know not “seems.”

    it’s been a while since i’ve checked in on timmy’s fg% for the season…holy shit – a 2 guard who shoots 39%…

Starks shot 39% in 1995… back when we were good (kind of).

knox might be the worst defender in the league

He’s a terrible all around basketball player at this stage. If you took Kanter, Mudiay, and Knox off the team we’d probably have a decent defense and somewhere between 5-10 more wins. Throw in KP and we’d probably still be contention for 8th seed. Those guys are terrible starters!

Just by renouncing every FA except McConnell, they’re at $15M in space with Butler’s cap hold on the books. That’s already a very good reason to not acquire Tim Hardaway Jr.

They also will almost certainly have the option to dump Fultz’s salary if they think there’s a good opportunity out there.

Doncic is a surprisingly poor ft shooter. He feels like he’d shoot 85%z

Tim guarding him is one of he best tank combos around.

Knox could so easily have fouled DeAndre there to prevent him from dunking, but he kind of said “nah”

Stratomatic "I'm tired of the Knicks paying lip service to DEFENSE. Get defenders & two-way players. Then play them!says:

I understand from watching Hezonja play this year why he was so highly regarded. He has a lot of skills. It’s easy to think if he could put it all together he’d be a good player. Unfortunately, early in the season putting the ball in the hoop and avoiding dumb mistakes were not two of his skills. Lately though, I think he’s playing better on both sides of the ball. I don’t think he’s a keeper at the likely price, but I do think he’s not nearly as bad as he looked early on.

Who are these ‘we want Kanter’ people? Is he paying them? …is what I was writing before he gets ready to sub in. What a cheeseball. What a bunch of trolls.

If you’ve resolved to not play Kanter for whatever (valid) reason you really shouldn’t move off of that position because of a chant

At this moment the entire Knicks team has less assists than Dennis Smith Jr, who averages 4 a game.

Does Fizdale simply tells the guys to not even attempt to pass? I get that the roster is a wasteland but you gotta think a regular NBA or G League player can make a simple pass right?

I just think it’s funny. Classic New York bullshit. And he airballed his first shot. The whole thing is stupid but also entertaining.

Stratomatic "I'm tired of the Knicks paying lip service to DEFENSE. Get defenders & two-way players. Then play them!says:

Who are these ‘we want Kanter’ people?

Turkish supporters of Erdogan trying to bring down the Knicks and embarrass Kanter?

I don’t mind it so much since the alternative is Lance. If Kornet were healthy it’d be different.

Stratomatic "I'm tired of the Knicks paying lip service to DEFENSE. Get defenders & two-way players. Then play them!says:

No. They bring in players that can create low efficiency shots off the dribble and if you show any signs of being a team oriented pass first player they stick you in the dungeon, trade you, or let you leave via free agency.

derek harper announces basketball likes it’s a scientology audit. his observations are pretty much limited to whether player X looks focused, uncomfortable or patient.

Did Fizdale really just capitulate to the crowd and put Kanter in? That’s pretty fucked up.

Yall do realize that if this was a better passing team, we’d likely have more wins, yea?

Also, the low-assist workout plan was addressed in a recent article. Fiz stated that it’s due to a lot of guys trying to basically showcase themselves for future deals vs focusing on team ball.

There’s a very real possibility that this team will be drastically different (and better) next year.

DHarper used to hand check opponents like a thetan at the sea-org too. (The Scientology similes never end with that one).

every few months i’ll flip past tnt and something like bones or criminal minds is on assuming they are different things and i’ll stop for a minute and think why didn’t i ever give this show a chance there are probably thousands of episodes and they’re free and on all the time so if it’s even slightly palatable that could be a big win but it only takes like 15 seconds before i’m like yeah i forgot that’s obviously not gonna work.

that’s how it feels watching kanter tonight

Stratomatic "I'm tired of the Knicks paying lip service to DEFENSE. Get defenders & two-way players. Then play them!says:

Watching the Knicks is getting unbearable. The only minutes I’m interested in are when Robinson or Frank are on the court. Knox is too terrible to hold my interest.

When can we expect the trade deadline action to start? I can’t wait until some of these guys are gone.

Found what I wrote about Doncic before the draft. Many were agreeing with Fran F that he would be too slow to be a star in the NBA, bad on D and not good enough on O to make up for it. Aside from saying I thought Doncic would be a star, I wrote:

    rama, king of superfluous poppycock

As for Doncic, I think Fran is wrong. I’ve watched a lot of film, and he has a special talent on offense to anticipate what’s going to happen. Which Fran acknowledges, but underrates; I’m with the guy who did that backpicks list (www.backpicks.com) who argues that “creation” is the most valuable, scalable talent on offense, and correlates closely to winning. Most people here, after the pain of the Melo experience, would agree that good iso play is not as good as ball movement and a fluid team offense.

Tonight that has been more the inverse – the Knicks showing what it’s like when no one can “create.” Can’t judge Fiz yet…not with these players…but it is reasonable cause for concern.

I was chanting we want Zion during those chants along with a couple of others around me (224 row 3). Doncic has Lebron-like vision. It really is quite ridiculous.

I mean, is it that hard to create a culture of “share the ball?” Does Knox have to shoot every time? Does Timmy have to jack up ill-considered off-balance shots? Both of them have contracts going another few years – why can’t they be convinced, at the very least, to pass the ball some of the time??

    KB was very pro Doncic

I mean, there’s always going to be some dude to give any prospect the Skip Bayless treatment, but yeah, in general, KB was all over Doncic.

    Dirk In
    Garbage Time
    Hits meaningless 3
    Makes me sad
    for Dirk
    and I

    Hai Koooooo mother fuckers.

In the first half of the first quarter we ran a 4 or 5 nice little plays that resulted in open shots from three. We missed all those shots. If you shoot as bad as this team your assists are going to suffer and your opponent’s rebounds are going to benefit.

It seems to be difficult to teach some players that player and ball movement create better shots for all which in turn mean more points per possession for the team. They see it through their own eyes instead. Besides, this is exactly what I’ve been complaining about for weeks. The MANAGEMENT has been focusing on players with the skillset to create for THEMSELVES off the dribble at the expense of defense and play making. You need guys that can create for themselves when the possession breaks down, but it’s supposed to be a last option, not a first option.

Doncic is an amazing offensive talent for a 19 year old, but this was hardly a good game for him given his output and the Knicks defense.

Man, this game is why I root so hard for Frank to learn how to shoot. Pretty brutal defense out there. But the tank rumbles on…

Kadeem Allen is probably one of the better defenders on the team. It’s sad. We have a few decent defenders, but they are young, don’t play together very often, and the rest of the team is so horrible it doesn’t matter.
