2017-18 Game Thread: Knicks @ Wizards

The Knicks head to Washington D.C. to take on the Washington Wizards.

The two teams are on the opposite ends of streaks, with the Knicks having lost 5 of their past 6 and the Wizards winning two straight. The Wizards are at home and the Knicks have struggled on the road. However, the Knicks have had had a bit of a mixed bag recently while playing in Washington. Last year, they got blown out once but the other game was very competitive. The previous year they won a game in Washington and were competitive in the other game.

The Wizards are a pretty good team, so this will be tough – but not impossible. Hopefully we get to see Frank show off some defensive skills on the speedy John Wall!

Let’s go, Knicks!

well, after a day’s thread full of – kp is not the savior we thought he might be – on a positive note: fairly certain we won’t get shut out tonight…

Promised my wife I’d watch X-Files with her tonight, though I didn’t like the last mini-season.

Kanter off to a hot start.

having joel mchale in it just made it goofy and not so good…

sounds like a very wise viewing choice indeed…

This is the kind of game where I would have activated Noah to use against Gortat.

How do you not have Noah active against Gortat?

i’ve either finally succumbed to “group” think – or, you’re absolutely brilliant sir – hell, yeah – perfect noah scenario…

It’s not complicated.

Kanter is a weak defender and occasionally gets abused by the bigger stronger centers.

Noah is a legit defensive C that handles the big guys well.

We are turning Gortat into a superstar.

Knicks laziness cost them 2 points at the end of the half. They should get blasted at halftime.

Trey Burke was just named the GLeague player of the month for December. He’s scoring 27 ppg with a 60% TS%. 26% AST% with only a 11% TO% on 30% usage rate. He’s also averaging 2 stls per game. Why the hell has he not been called up?? He’s exactly the type of player the Knicks should be giving minutes to, not Jack or Sessions.

I dunno, Al, he’s not under contract even to the Knicks, so why hasn’t anyone else signed him? I think that everyone else is waiting for 10-day contract time. So I can’t knock the Knicks too much (although, don’t get me wrong, I hate that Ramon Sessions is on this team and I would have them sign Burke yesterday).

It’s gonna be sad when the only deal the Knicks pull off will be trading KOQ for a 2nd. He’s been really good this year with fewer offensive WTF moments. Watching him alternate with Kanter, two guys with very similar size and completely lacking ups/explosion, has been a clinic on the difference between a good and terrible defender.

Yeah, for sure other NBA teams are waiting for 10 day contracts. But the Knicks are the ones who basically signed him so he can play for them at Westchester and he’s playing great, doing exactly what I assume they wanted to see from him. So what the hell is the point of not signing him yet and allowing other teams to potentially sign him when the Knicks are beyond desperate for decent PG play?? I just don’t get it, this isn’t some random kid either. He’s a Top 10 pick from just a few years ago who turned 25yo a couple of months ago. He’s a type of player they should be signing and giving a chance too, not old retreads like Jack and Sessions.

When something makes absolutely no sense (like not bringing up Trey Burke), it usually means you are operating with incomplete information. I have no idea what that might be, but there’s probably something about him we do not know that is making people cautious about signing him.

Maybe we should put Beasley in the starting lineup and make him the #1 option. #WalkingBucket Porzingis should do better as the 6th man off the bench. 🙂

I missed all the third and the first part of the fourth. From what I saw of the fourth, it looked like a pickup game with Jack and Beasley taking turns shooting. No one played D.

Just play the kids already, Hornacek! Bringing Willy and Dotson in with under 2 minutes to go is rather silly. Do it earlier in a lost cause as this one clearly was early in the 4th.

RE Burke, I totally agree with you all that the Knicks should call him up. However, awhile back I posted link to a fairly recent article about him that suggested to me that he has attitude/off court issues of some kind that have soured him around the league. Maybe that still lingers even if his on-court talent shines in the G League?

As noted before, other teams tend to wait until 10-day contracts are available.

The Knicks, though, are most likely just dumb. Appealing to authority with the Knicks is rarely a sound move.

Hornacek absolutely lost me over the last two games. Jack/Sessions in the fourth one game, playing Lee/Jack/Lance/Oq/Beas these minutes while giving guys like Kanter, Frank, Willy, Dotson less minutes than their aged counterparts.

He’s coaching for his job, and he sucks at it. At least I get the tank I want

Or it just means we’re talking about the Knicks!

I’m still 100% not confident in the front office’s ability to not poop in their own pants, so I’d still chalk it up to just general incompetence.

Sad to say the way KP’s been playing lately the Knicks might be better off. In his last 20 games going into tonight he’s had a TS% of .494 on 31.4 usage. That’s horrific.

just speculating but they could be holding on to burke because they want to deal jack … if they deal jack they can hang onto sessions and have at least one veteran pg if burke doesn’t pan out…. right now they would have to waive sessions…

it could be that and/or waiting to use the 10-day contract….

wake me up after the draft is over and we’ve picked another “unicorn”

Trae Young is gonna turn this franchise around. And if he doesn’t get the opportunity then we need to get Jalen Brunson.

Baker seems like a cool dude, but he’s pretty much what people said he was: the 16th man on a 15-man team.

I get wanting to see the young’ns more, but I can only hope the plan is to “showcase” the vets for now, especially to teams like Washington. Beasley is becoming a legit trade target.
